As televised on SBS “8News” today, police has remitted composer Bahnus for further prosecution in regards to Lee Hyori’s plagiarism controversy. It has been confirmed through investigation results that in the beginning of this year when Lee Hyori was looking for songs from her upcoming fourth album, Bahnus used American and Canadian artists’ songs for his own. The composer had received 29,000,000 won for the songs, but is now charged for scamming and business disruption.

Although Lee Hyori’s plagiarism controversy damages have reached legal grounds, the singer feels that she has not been able to totally free herself from ethic responsibility, especially since she took part in the album production herself.

note to self when producing an album don't trust an iPhone application to screen for plagarism.

I feel bad for Hyori cause I think she really put in a lot of effort with this album. Unfortunately, a lot of her trust/faith was put in the wrong places (Bahnus, the iPhone app), but I respect her for taking all the songs off the album and such.

Now that Hyori had her own company, such things won't happen again I hope.
She needs to be away from the media for a while and then she'll come back stronger.

if composers only make ~29,000 for having an artist use 6 of their songs on their album and submit hundreds to thousands of songs, no wonder there's a distinct lack of creativity present in korea's music industry. js. it's not just a "hyori shouldn't be so naive as to use an iphone app to check" issue, but more of a "the industry shouldn't settle for the lowest common denominator" issue.

As [Hyori] had suffered from a plagiarism sandal when she released her second album, she said, “To find out whether there are similar songs to my final choices, I checked thoroughly through an iPhone application (Sound Hound) that can search music.”

I can understand why Hyori still feels she can't "free" herself from what happened.
Its her job, and an whole album in her career will always have this controversy attached to it. So many people dislike her now :-/

However she will eventually move on. Everyone does.
I'm sure she'll make another comeback down the line and it will all be good.
She just needs to be more careful and these people in kpop need to do background checks on everything when producing an album because plagiarism seems really huge in kpop.

And since this happened maybe more artists will be aware of whose working on their albums with them and be more careful and such.

Well, I would plagiarize too if I only get $26,000 for 'composing' half a fucking album.

But in all seriousness, as much as I love Hyori I have absolutely no pity for her. If a couple of kids could find the original songs after surfing the web for a day or two, then how the hell couldn't they (mnet / hyori) find them? I mean Bahnus didn't even bother to change the song title...

Poor Hyori. :(

It's quite an unfortunate situation she's placed herself in, because she trusted these people to distribute these songs and yet has to suffer the repercussions of this particular issue. I don't think she should be to blame because, while she could/should have researched where the songs came from before making the album a-go, this was the responsibility of Bahnus for claiming such songs in the first place and knowingly too.

It's good that she's taking moral responsibility though, still it makes me feel horrible for her because she has to suffer the backlash of this supposed comeback album. I want her to return so bad, fiercer and refreshed from all of this.

STAY STRONG, GIRL!

Sometimes I think Kpop gets into trouble because companies are sooooo cheap. Yes we know the less you spend on overhead costs, the greater your profit will be. But how hard is do to a background check or pay someone to check the songs BEFORE you buy them... and seriously everything is on youtube now. They could've typed the Korean or English lyrics into google and SOMETHING would have come up.

It took Knetizens less than a day to find something wrong after the song was leaked...

After all the plagiarism accusations in the industry you hope someone in the company would be diligently checking the songs... an iPhone app is not enough.

You mean check the song before you release them?
But as for your point, I ttly agree. If it's to do with art form, whether it be music, choreography, visuals, concepts etc., plagiarism is ALWAYS relevant. Cheapness is no excuse really, imo.

I don't know how many times I've actually thought this. Netizens are on some scary sh*t. They find idols in the middle of nowhere, access CCTV, find flight numbers, you name and they can do it.

Interpol, CIA... nope you need netizens. A company rep could have entered any internet cafe and picked to random people and they would have known by the end of the day if those songs were plagiarized.
