‘From TOP to Choi Seung Hyun’ The trick to his landing as an actor
Bi + Yoon Gye Sang + Jang Nara…. and more have gathered. Choi Seung Hyun is writing history through the movie Into the Gunfire. He broke the jinx amongst singers-turned-actors in one fell swoop. It’s true that before casting Choi Seung Hyun, the sound of opposition amongst production staff was quite loud. They thought that casting him as the main role in a grand production worth $13.5 million was unreasonable. To make matters worse, he was caught up in a debate that he had been miscast in his debut role in ‘IRIS’ (KBS). He’s gone completely ‘all-in.’ He cleared his schedule completely and lived in Kyung Nam Hap Cheon. He hasn’t gone up to Seoul for three weeks, and he’s even lived in a motel for awhile. Even if he went up to Seoul due to inevitable circumstance, he would get in a car headed back to Hap Cheon within a day or two.
Even some of the staff who had been doubtful at first were moved by the way Choi Seung Hyun would give himself over with passion. He would sometimes debate with director Lee Jae Han for two hours over a single scene. He would receive lessons from his seniors Kim Seung Woo, Cha Seung Won, Kwon Sang Woo, and others every night in their motel rooms.
This kind of a posture gave off even more light after the premiere. Usually, stars who are popular as singers skip over the promotions once filming is over. This is because of their backed up schedules. But Choi Seung Hyun was different. Like a rookie should, he humbly went to each press conference and gave interviews. And at the end of last month, he participated in promotional activities in Busan. For two days he visited over 20 army bases. And on the third and fourth days, he went around Seoul. Having the main role still promoting in the third week since the premiere is practically unprecedented. Public relations manager Kim Jin Ah said, “I was worried that it was too much, but the truth is that he never complained once.”
▶The Huge Success of Best Supporters
Truthfully, coming across a project as great as this one is a near impossibility. To start off, the character is great. The tragic life of a student soldier is in itself dramatic, and will likely get points for just that. It goes well with the image Choi Seung Hyun has of being both boyish and charismatic. And seniors who are like the galaxy filled in for whatever Choi Seung Hyun was lacking.
The management at his company YG Entertainment did their fair share here. It seems that they make sure that they take care of their stars’ opinions and freedom. Honestly who is Choi Seung Hyun. He’s a member of Big Bang, wanted by everyone everywhere. Recording aside, his days could be filled with just filming CFs. If his schedule gets heavier due to filming movies, there could be financial issues for the company. But YG Entertainment respected the wishes of this actor, who wanted to be sold out to the movie, as much as they could to the point where they adjusted his recording schedule accordingly. Thanks to that, Choi Seung Hyun was able to film as an actor should and promote as an actor should, and receive applause as an actor should.

A war movie based on a true story, Into the Gunfire illustrates the sad and great battle of 71 student soldiers who ran into the line of fire wearing their school uniforms to protect the Nakdong River frontier on which the fate of the Korean War laid, and is currently playing in theaters everywhere.

Rediscovery of Actors
The joy of rediscovering actors is great. Especially on-screen this first half of the year, there are actors who gave us the pleasure of new discovery to the point where one could add on the thought of, ‘There was this side to him too,’ to what one already knew.
Member of the group Big Bang, TOP went beyond being an idol star and beyond being a home theater star and made a successful debut on the big screen.
Idol stars who make the transformation into actors have the benefit of at least some degree of fixed adoration from their fans, but movies are harder than dramas. More than simple stardom is needed to appeal to the audience who paid money to come.
Through the genre of war movie, not drama or action, TOP received attention by bravely throwing away his star image and transforming into a war-scarred boy, weak and yet still tough. He was able to express the fear and the weight of war felt by a seventeen-year-old boy thrown into a huge war.
If the charisma of his character from ‘IRIS’ is what you thought of until now when you thought of TOP as an actor, then you could say that he found his potential that’s like blank drawing paper through Into the Gunfire. He could be the idol star actor we can expect the most from.

Anyway, the movie was absolutely brilliant, I think the closest city it's playing in is San Fransisco, I want to go see it in an actual movie theater, I saw it at Standford and got the director's autograph but I also REALLY want a ticket stub, to see one of my favorite Korean stars from my favorite band IN MY OWN FUCKING STATE WOULD BE SO COOL. *Spazz.*
