Kangta extends his contract with SME

Singer and ex-H.O.T member Kangta announced that he will continue to work as an artist under a contract with SM Entertainment for 10 more years.

On the 6th, Kangta was present at the event titled “Announcement for the Establishment of Improved Entertainment Contracts.” At this event he said, “It’s been 15 years since I’ve debuted with H.O.T. I never left my company in those 15 years and I had four contracts. I will continue being with this company for 10 or more years.”

He continued, “It’s rare for someone to keep a contract with one company for 15 years so I always get questions regarding why I renew my contract. The answer and reason is that I feel the work I do with my company is fair.”

He added, “Since I was in H.O.T, I had a huge interest in overseas promotions. SM had success in China and more Asian countries. They also have an access to the Japanese market so it’s a company I need. SM has fair decisions so I’m with them.”

I guess Kangta is really for SM. It’s so confusing because quite a few artists are wanting to leave SM but some want to stay for another decade.

Not necessarily hostile though. He just needs to keep buying in the shares, and then the two of them will have enough to legally take over.

I don't understand why there are some people think here that SME is purely evil. Seriously? As "slave driver" as they are right now, the company in itself has still have their good points - they still have IMO have one of the best marketing strategies and the agency really do have great PR (damage control) team.

Also for this, if Kangta wants to stay for like a decade or so on SME, it's his choice, he's not a starry-eyed idol that he was during H.O.T days. He clearly became a mature man that can think and decide where will his interests lie.

its all business and what someone best interest is. If u're life is secure and u're happy in SM u'll stay , if u're unhappy and find that ur life ain't secure in SM u'll leave. Its all what the artists believe is in their own best interest and they all don't think the same.

The announcement was kind of Allkpop fail journalism. Kangta had said he and Tony had discussed it and would like to, but he hadn't said it was a definite thing :/ and your question is pretty much what I've been wondering this whole time.

so is it that wrong to think that sme could be changing, if even a little bit, for the better?

of course they're still horrible for having such shit contracts to begin with but i guess if he wants to stay then its his choice.
every artist handles things differently, and people can only speculate at the various choices they make.

i dont know sm's dealings, but seeing how some people have left or are trying to leave (and i know theres people trying to join with auditions), can i say that sme doesnt treat everyone the same? some people get more privilege and lenience than others and others dont--getting mistreated and abused...
