Hey party people, it’s Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 1st week in March, 2014. All the songs have been posted before, so we will see some live performances this week.

#3 CNBLUE “Can’t Stop”

I always hear this song in my head when I think about the group, but I don’t think it’s my fav. It just wormed its way into my brain somehow lol. This is the lead single off of the band’s EP of the same name. Both the song and the EP would peak in the top three on the charts. It was their only Korean release this year. After promotions for this song ended, they focused on Japanese activities and two Asian tours. Here’s a performance from one of last year’s KCONs. It feels like a different arrangement of the song, but it could be I’m hearing it different just because it’s live.

#2 2NE1 “Come Back Home”
This was one of the two singles from the group’s final album, “Crush”. Nine of the ten songs on the album would peak in the top 20 on the charts. This song would peak at the top spot. It would be the group’s ninth (and last) number one song. Following promotions of the song in Korea, the group would go on a 20 city Asian tour. The Japanese version of the song and the album would be released a few months later. I did not like the styling this era, but I think they still look so pretty (I especially love Minzy’s hair here!). I don’t know how to explain it lol. But it feels very 2NE1.

#1 Girls’ Generation “Mr. Mr.”
This is the lead single from the EP of the same name, and their comeback after a year. Both the album and the song would hit the top spot on the charts. This would be the last Korean release with Jessica. This is also the last time 2NE1 and SNSD would be on the charts together. And this is when my heart cries a little. Here’s their comeback stage at Music Core. I don’t remember the live stages from this era at all. There were boys?!? Ew. But ugh the girls are so gorgeous!

Honorable Mentions

#4 Soyou & Junggigo “Some”

Ah, a Starship collab! Starship loved a good collab back in the day. And this one was super successful. This is the biggest selling song of the year. It would top the charts, and stay there for the longest time. This song would be the longest running chart topper for 2014. The duo would win 11 music show trophies, as well as wins at most of the year end awards. It really is such a good song, with all the sweet feels. Here’s the two of them at the KBS Song Festival at the end of the year.

#6 Sunmi “Full Moon”

This is the single from her debut EP of the same name. It was the first time that JYP Entertainment and Brave Brothers collaborated together (I think it was the only time so far?). The song would peak at number two on the charts. This would be her last solo release for a while, she would rejoin Wonder Girls in the following year. Here’s her performance at SBS Gayo that year. She’s joined on this stage by her former labelmate, 2PM’s Taecyeon.
