Actor Park Bo-gum effectively wraps up active-duty Navy service

Actor Park Bo-gum began his final military vacation Monday, effectively ending his active-duty service as he is not required to return to his base under an antivirus guideline, Navy officials said.

Earlier in the day, Petty Officer Second Class Park left his Navy unit in the Gyeryongdae military headquarters, 160 kilometers south of Seoul, as he started the vacation that would last until his official discharge date on April 30.

Troops were usually obligated to be present at their bases on the final day of their service, but the military has eased such rules to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Park, nevertheless, will still technically remain an active serviceman until the discharge date. He has been serving in the Navy since August 2020.

All able-bodied South Korean men must carry out compulsory service for about two years in a country that faces constant security threats from North Korea.

Making his silver screen debut with the thriller film "Blind" (2011), Park gained huge popularity after taking a lead role in the hit TV series "Reply 1988" (2015) and "Love in the Moonlight" (2016).

Covid really changed my perception of time, I was 100% sure he left in summer 2021...
Well, I'm happy he's going to be back soon and healthy. I don't like him as an actor, to be honest, but he's such an eye-candy that I'll keep watching his works.

Yes he’s back

I’m the opposite. I thought he was generic looking but his acting drew me in.

Besides reply 1988, I've never seen him in anything else. Is it just me or does it seem like he has zero chemistry with all his female leads?? I just can't buy him as romantic lead for some odd reason.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

He has been on my mind

Replying to poster #1 (well, they were #1 sweetestbliss1)
#1 - Personally, I read him as gay
#2 - He was really good in Love in the Moonlight
(Skip Record of Youth - the zero chemistry is effect at 100% and Itaewon class is a 15 second cameo)
#3 - I did love him in Encounter. Zero chemistry again, but I also find that ANYONE paired with Song Hye-kyo has zero chemistry. So, that is more about her than him. So if you are looking for that, turn away, if you enjoy his eye candy appeal, he brings it.
#4 - I blindly turn an eye to his religion because it seems like a cult.
#5 - Damn if I can remember if was a film or drama he got killed for his organs was, but it was brutal and he played that 30 second well.
#6 - I still need to rent Seo Bok on Viki, it's only $2.99, its Bo Gum and Gong Yoo.

Hoping that after being in the Army, he comes back hotter than ever like many of his peers and brings something more than the pretty.

+1 at eye candy.

When his foot long hands appear in scenes, I can't even.

I only got into him like a month or so before he did his enlistment, so I'm excited. Is he a great actor? No. But is his acting talent plus his attractiveness level enough for me to be excited about his projects? Yes. Hell. I even mostly liked Record of Youth because of him.

I think the cult thing kinda hinders his love expression. and it fits into his pure innocent vibe

I liked him in Hello, Monster and still think that’s his best role.

He’s given me the creeps ever since I found out he’s in a cult, then reading about how his parents put him in the cult when he was just a baby makes me feel sorry for him. He still gives me the creeps but I really hope he can get out safely one day.

Yay! I like him as a person and an actor. I haven't enjoyed his latest works; his older works were better. I didn't like Record of Youth but his actor-in-an-acting scenes were his strongest acting scenes lol I hope he comes back in a role that fits him well. He seems to do better in roles where he is the cocky, assured protagonist/villain.
