Mnet reveals six contestants for 'Queendom 2'

The contestants of Mnet’s survival program "Queendom 2” will be Brave Girls, VIVIZ, WJSN, Loona, Kep1er and Hyolyn, according to CJ ENM on Monday.

The show sees six high-profile female K-pop acts compete by each releasing a new song on the same day. In the first season of "Queendom" (2019), the winner was awarded with a solo comeback show on Mnet.

Brave Girls debuted in 2011 and is best known for its song “Rollin’” (2017), a late bloomer hit which topped the charts four years after its release. It has four members: Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna.

VIVIZ is comprised of members SinB, Eunha and Umji who were formerly part of girl group GFriend. After GFriend disbanded in May 2021, the three members re-debuted as VIVIZ in on Feb. 9 with the EP “Beam Of Prism.”

WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, debuted in 2016 with its EP “Would You Like?” and has released hits “I Wish” (2017) and “As You Wish” (2019). The 13-member girl group consists of Exy, Seola, Xuan Yi, Bona, Soobin, Luda, Dawon, Eunseo, Cheng Xiao, Mei Qi, Yeoreum, Dayoung and Yeonjung.

Loona is a 12-member group consisting of Haseul, Vivi, Yves, JinSoul, Kim Lip, Chuu, Heejin, Hyunjin, Go Won, Choerry, Olivia Hye and Yeojin. It debuted in 2018 and is known for hits "Hi High" (2018), "Why Not?" (2020) and "PTT (Paint The Town)" (2021).

Kep1er is a rookie girl group which debuted on Jan. 3 with its EP “First Impact” and lead track “Wa Da Da.” The EP set a new record for highest first-week sales for a K-pop girl group’s debut album. The group consists of nine finalists of Mnet’s multinational idol audition show “Girls Planet 999” (2021): Yujin, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Youngeun, Yeseo, Xiaoting, Mashiro, Hikaru and Huening Bahiyyih.

Hyolyn is a solo act known to be a talented vocalist. She was once a member of girl group Sistar, which was active from 2010 to 2017. Hyolyn dropped her latest digital single “Layin' Low” in January.

“All six artists have each topped music programs and are iconic K-pop artists,” said the producers of “Queendom 2.” “We expect they will each show their uniqueness and the best stage performances.”

Taeyeon of girl group Girls’ Generation will be the show’s host.

"Queendom 2”will air every Thursday at 9:20 p.m. for 10 weeks from March 31.

Kep1er is weird though bc they're like...5 minutes old? Viviz makes a bit more sense bc lets be real, they're Gfriend members so they're not brand-spanking new. Not only 5 minutes old but also were literally already created by ANOTHER reality program? idk...

A whole other edit to amend my first statement. WJSN and Loona are basically tied for my favorite girlgroup...so this isn't going to be fun. I'm too emotionally invested. I'm probably going to be upset more than anything lol

Honestly I don’t know or care about Kepler so there’s that.

I think the only thing I wished for was more older acts. Hyolyn is the only second Gen idol in the group. I know Brave Girls as a brand is 2nd Gen, but this roster is third in my mind. Still I got WJSN and Hyolyn. Plus I like LOONA, VIVIZ and Brave Girls.

Them talking about WJSN’s old line up like them girls ain’t been in the group going on four years now. I’ll watch clips when it comes out.

so i guess basing this on queendom 1's lineup their equivalents would be something like

hyolyn = bom
brave girls = aoa
wjsn = oh my girl
kep1er = (g)idle
viviz = mamamoo
loona = lovelyz

ofc none of these are exact matches, but more like... their status in the industry, somewhat. (the viviz = mamamoo one is a huge stretch lol i know but if it was gfriend it wouldn't be. and bg = aoa doesn't quite work but... whatever.)

excited for hyolyn, wjsn and brave girls! I'm kind of concerned for brave girls tbh they're still working like crazy and last i heard someone was taking a break from activities.

viviz is repackaged gfriend so i hope that they can actually perform gfriend songs as well, otherwise my point about kep1er stands foe them as well

i'm surprised people are surprised that kep1er is there. it's mnet's own group and they haven't been doing well on the charts, but at the same time they won mcoundown twice already, so it's a perfect excuse. i feel bad that the girls are doing a survival-ish show again so soon, they must be so tired.

i'm also not going to watch it because i don't care for these shows, but i'll be checking out some performances for sure.

i'm only really interested in wjsn and brave girls and i'm not sure bg will adjust quickly enough to the type of performances this format encourages? hopefully i'm wrong though.

i used to be interested in loona but their fans have put me off the entire group lmao i avoid them now but i expect them and wjsn to do the best. i won't be watching but excited to watch the wjsn perfs that come from it especially and hope all the girls can get to know each other and are subject to minimal forced mnet drama.

I'm still sad they're not doing a road to queendom. So many of the korean comments on articles were mentioning names like Dreamcatcher, Weki Meki, I even saw Purple Kiss getting some shout outs. I think Loona and Kep1er would've fit better on that too. It would've been easy enough to round out the lineup with acts like fromis_9, Rocket Punch,

Other than that though the lineup is for sure solid. Kep1er should have been STAYC by all rights, but mnet will be mnet, any publicity is good publicity. Might be an unpopular opinion but I'm really glad they've brought a soloist back and an all-rounder like Hyolyn will do better with the format than Bom (she can do dance and singing challenges, and she's definitely better for variety segments).

I saw comments on WJSN and Loona on the show together is a win for the gays and lmaoooo! I’m not mad at it haha. I’d add in Hyolyn too, especially a couple years ago when she was on fire with her releases she had plenty WLW fans internationally haha. I didn’t watch season 1 in full so I’ll just watch performances here too.

I’m most interested in WJSN, Loona, Hyolyn, and to some extent Brave Girls (I still enjoy them just their post-fame output has been kinda eh….but tbh that applies to Loona too 🙃)

I wish other groups replaced Kepler and Viviz but I’m sure the performances will still be good even though I’m not as invested.

Realistically since Queendom requires a win, Dreamcatcher had no chance. I love DC but I also have to be realistic that it was never likely. This lineup has been rumored for a week or so. And even Itzy came up as a rumored potential contestant so when I saw them and contestants like Brave Girls I knew Dreamcatcher had no opportunity besides the whole never winning. Same applies to Weki Meki. I’d love to see DC on Road to Queendom, it’s a shame that’s not being done at all.

i'd have loved a road to queendom and it would have actually done better than even Kingdom imo. some of the groups people were hoping to come on the show...probably wouldn't even make it to rtq tbh
