WJSN’s “As You Wish” tops the charts for New Year’s Day

“이루리 (As You Wish)” by WJSN has established itself as one of the most popular songs to listen to on New Year’s Day. By 9 AM on January 1st 2022 KST, the song entered the Top 100 Melon chart at #27. Over the course of the day, “As You Wish” reached 1st place on Melon, Genie and Bugs Music charts.

Many younger Koreans follow a superstition wherein the first song they listen to in the new year will help determine how that year goes. Since its release in 2019, “As You Wish” has become an anthem for young people wishing for luck and happiness, with its dreamy sound and hopeful lyrics such as: “Only good things will come to pass / the way I want / the way I feel / I will find the light in the darkness / It will all come true.” The song is popular not only on New Year’s but also with people applying for jobs or schools or taking major exams.

According to Melon, “As You Wish” was the number one most-searched song on their platform over the last few days of the year. In second place was NCT 127’s “Dreams Come True” and third was Norazo’s “듣기만해도 성공하는 음악 (Listening to this Song will Bring You Success)”

I hopped on the bandwagon this year and listened to this right after midnight, it really is a great New Year song. Plus it's so pretty how 이루리 itself means ‘to come true/ to achieve,’ and it's also the meaning of Luda’s full name (이루다). And they look so gorgeous and I love the styling this era but I always kind of forget about it and am more than happy for the reminder lol

it's awesome the way this song has become a new year's anthem! i hope it's considered a classic for many years to come.

I love this song but don’t use it for NYE and don’t plan to. But I’m glad people are finally appreciating it and it’s cute it’s used for important moments in people’s lives. It would be nice if they checked out their other songs too.

Deserve. I actually also listened to this on New Years Eve while being sad WJSN didn't get invited to any of the Gayo's :( I was so hyped when I saw them posting on Instagram that they were performing somewhere and thought it was going to be the MBC one but it turned out to be some peace concert I had to scour youtube for. I AM SO SAD OK.

This was in fact my first song of the new year. I made sure it was. For SO MANY years tho since it came out I made sure it was T-Ara's "Bo Peep Bo Peep" because its my jam lol

Ughhh I know this was so disappointing. I know they didn't have a huge year but I'm still surprised they didn't show up at all. Ngl I'm feeling pretty pessimistic for their position in starship now that IVE is turning out to be so huge :(

I feel the same way with the IVE situation. I've been really enjoying their songs but also am just constantly :( :( :( over WJSN likely getting the shaft now. I hope their next full group promos are popular in korea. Maybe the unit group promos will be a hit.

I think they're actually at risk of really being the next Orange Caramel / After School situation where the subunit becomes more well-known than the full group. Like it's not a bad thing per se but it ends up being pretty awkward for everyone 😬
