Flashback Friday
2021-12-31 02:13 pmEvery week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back 10 years to the 5th week of December, 2011. Happy New Year everyone!
#3 IU “You & I”
This is still her biggest selling song, and would debut at number one. It was the lead single from her 2nd full album, “Last Fantasy”. Eight of the thirteen songs would chart in the top ten, and the album would peak at the top spot too. A Japanese version of the song would be released in the next year, where it would find success on their charts as well. Let’s take a look at a live performance at Sketchbook from last year.
#2 Trouble Maker “Trouble Maker”
Less than a week after CUBE announced a co-ed unit with 4Minute’s Hyuna and BEAST’s Hyunseung, this EP was released. This was their debut song, off of the EP of the same name. Despite people being all “it’s too sexy argh boo!” and forcing them to change choreo and live performances, the song was a success. The song would peak at #1, and the album at #2. It was parodied a lot in the media too, and win a bunch of music show trophies, including a M! Countdown triple crown. It’s been a while, so let’s see the MV again.
#1 Davichi & T-ara “We Were In Love”
This was a Christmas collaboration between the two Core Contents groups. They did a few collabs together. It followed two very successful releases from both groups. In the summer, Davichi’s “Love Delight” EP would chart at the top spot, and in the fall, T-ara’s “Black Eyes” EP would chart at #2. “We Were In Love” would follow it up with the top spot, and later be included in T-ara’s repackage album, “Funky Town”.
Honorable Mentions
#8 ALi “Don’t Act Countrified”
She was busy in 2011, releasing a few singles and her first full album. This was the lead single to her “SOULri” album. This is still her highest charting song, and would peak in the top five. This album came out a great time, she started appearing on the newly revived Immortal Songs 2 this year. She won multiple shows that year, and continues to do so 10 years later. I remember this music video. Not the song, but this video is really familiar to me.
#10 LeeSSang featuring BMK “Clown”
This song was released in 2005, from LeeSSang’s “Library Of Soul” album, which was considered as their big mainstream breakout. So I have no idea why it is back on the charts 6 years later lol. My only guess would be that it is because they released a very successful album in the summer, which brought their previous songs back into the limelight? They also did their first solo tour. I don’t know, but they began doing the song again on music shows too. I actually remember this MV too! I don’t mind clowns.

Looking back Trouble Maker isn’t too sexy / that scandalous, just for that epoch. People couldn’t handle that, lol.
