thanks for posting these. i normally wouldn't check them out bc i do not like jay park at all

i liked lotus, i think. i really liked the malay(?) chorus and some of the verses. i do like the combination of the three languages as well. some of the verses were straight whack but overall, i'm surprised that i didn't hate it. no clue who anyone except jay park and jb are.

now the second one...

i just left with a very bad taste in my mouth.

this just felt like straight cultural appropriation. the braids. the bandanas. the clothing. the idolisation of 23/MJ. the low riders. claiming 'west side'. the cholo imitation with the tattoos and the clothes. the color filtration on the scenes where they're imitating hispanic/latinx gang culture to make it more yellow. the girl in the chorus with the bandana/hoops/lip gloss. the black people as props.

it's just SO much posturing and clear adoption of multiple cultures considered 'hood'. from what i found in a quick google search, gaeko, changmo, devita, beo and since were all born and raised in korea. don mills grew up in canada. los seems to be the only person who lived in la, but even that's not an excuse for all of this? it's just...wow. really a costume to out on and take off at the end of the day.
