Interviewer: “My colleague interviewed Minzy ages ago, and she said that she found about the disbandment, like, through media. How did you find out?”

CL: “Well… I did too. [laughs] To be honest. I was at a Thanksgiving dinner, and my phone blew up. But yeah, like, you know, those situation, it’s um, yeah, but, yeah… yeah..”

Interviewer: “So through the media?”

CL: “Yeah, but now you know, it’s… Yeah, that was very heartbreaking for me. But, like I said, now I have, um, a lot of freedom and just, control over at least what I choose to do, so - very exciting chapter for me.”

to this day, i still don't understand yge's strategies. 2ne1 were definitely at their peak when the bom scandal happened but, rather than pushing cl or minzy or dara, they just decided to throw the baby out with the bathwater and get rid of the whole group? i know cl's dr pepper and hello bitches didn't do as well as 2ne1's disco but that's because they were particularly shit songs. there was still a market for them. there was still a fanbase. big bang was about to go into enlistment.

i wasn't even a 2ne1 fan but i was angry on their behalf and i understood why they felt like 2ne1 was being trashed for a prettier version, with the same style of songs but less comparable talent

I assume it's also because 2NE1 were already an older group and wanted more control over their work. So instead of giving them what they want in their next contract renewal he threw the entire group away and started BP. Younger, inexperienced singers that he can lock down for a few years.

i definitely agree, especially when yg knows anyone they debut will be successful. even treasure have done really well despite not necessarily being as known atm?

it's sad that female performers have a very clear sell-by date. yge were willing to stand with big bang through everything and yet this is how they toss yge out?

i really hope it'll be different for bp! obviously they are a brand but they've all made a name for themself that i hope will be a big factor when it comes to contract negotiations (next year? the year after?)

I doubt it. BP are known for being glorified influencers that occasionally release a song. The only reason why they went to Coachella, got to collab with Selena Gomez, Cardi B, Lady Gaga and so on was because of their american record label. YG wouldn't have done shit with them. He's already starting teasing their next girlgroup and it's clear that some of the girls are frustrated with the way they are treated, they can easily sign with better agencies.

This doesn't surprise me tbh. YG is so shit that this is expected more than anything else. It's kinda clear in hindsight that 2NE1 was chucked for YG to bust out his new and improved gg. And considering how much pressure CL & the others got for being "ugly" by YG's standards, I dread to think if anyone in BP was pushed to surgery to be as pretty as he wants them to be.

Such a tragedy, I was such a big fan of 2NE1 and I was devastated when they were disbanded. My feelings towards YG as a company had already been going downhill for some time but this really solidified my thoughts (Until they were exposed to be truly rotten).

I always had my reservations about the whole YG family shit, I could believe that the artists (At the time) and perhaps a few of the producers were actually genuinely close but the company itself? And calling that disgusting man 'Papa YG' makes me want to vomit. The man is disgusting.

Still follow all the girls separately and it's nice to see they are friends. Hopefully they can come together in the future to do something if they would want too.

I still can't believe YG abandonned them like just discarded them. I was a 2ne1 stan ever since I heard CL in Uhm Jung Hwa's DISCO album and Bom since we belong together and the fact that he just replaced some of his most loyal and beloved trainees just tells me the type of company YG is. I don't think they would ever think of doing something like that with BP because they basically created a monster fanbase that even YG can't escape their lunacy...

They were so popular. I'm not really a fan but Sandara has close ties wtih oir country so we're sort of loyal/supportive (but not to YG). I was really surprised they disbanded. Individual activities would've made sense but totally to give up on their group was just really a weird move.
