I thought there was a lot of Mia in this (as usual) so I went to check the line distribution and it's basically, Mia and sihyeon gets over one minutes and the rest gets 20 seconds.
i can't believe onda actually got more than half a second of lines. and she got to hold a sword!!
i thought for sure i would hate this once i started playing it, but by the end i was actually kinda into it?? i mean, it sounds like if blackpink and itzy had a baby, but i think this is actually kinda fun lol
the only thing making me mad is that it's called pirate but there's no real pirate motif going on here. please give me a pirate ship.
I decided to watch a line distribution vid after reading some of these comments. I don't really know any of the members outside of the produce contestants. My first comment was oh Yiren isn't getting much and then Onda's name popped up like a third or more into the song... ^^; Who did she piss off in the company?
i liked the first minute? hate the 'girls all over the world' bit its sooooo generic i wish it had just been the verses and the 'im a pirate' part it would have been a better song and all the 'im a pirate' choruses should have went to aisha because her tone is the most unusual it would have made it more interesting too.
it will probably still get a few listens but yeah this is a generic mid 2000s nevermind 2010s club song i'm disappointed! all their titles up to first i loved and then first was just okay and i think this might be worse purely because its so basic.
i do like don't speak from the album, a lot of the song has a very 2010s gg feel but it does beg the question why do all their songs this time round feel at least 10 years old lol
i quite like throwback gg club music but i think i would've liked it more if they would've had a more catchy hook and/or instrumentals/beat. i haaaate the 'girls all over the world' it's too generic. some verses don't work for me they take me out of the song
yea it's confirmed everglow is a noise music group and they won't go back to La Di Da style anymore. it's not as grating as their other noise music, but I can't appreciate their music, so it's a no from me.
Hmm. I’ve enjoyed pretty much all their title tracks to a certain degree until now. I think this might be their worst TT yet. It’s just a bit too outdated and noisy for me.
Another song from Mia and friends ! It sounds like a Big Bang song so I guess if you like noise and drums you’d love it? I couldn’t get through it and I’m someone who ruins their ears listening to nct noise in the daily lol
it hasn't immediately gripped me as much as first and la di da did, but i found myself grinning like an idiot the whole time on first watch. i know people aren't receptive to the 2nd gen electropop sound but i adore this song's dated 2ne1/t-ara throwback in its dance wobble, repetitive "i'm a pirate" killing line, the uplifting melody of the pre-chorus leading into another drop, etc. this is a lot of words to say i love everglow's noise sound and i hope they keep at it. i don't think it's exactly their niche, since a lot of the time it can fall flat and feel like by-the-books girl crush, but when they push into more bg style noise, i think they get closer to finding that niche of theirs. as it stands now i think they're somewhere in between full-on bg noise and the types of loud girl crush groups like 3ye and clc put out (and i also think this is kinda alexa-ish)
also, as always for everglow, the mv is total archetypal big-box kpop and i love everything about it. i really liked first's weird out there keyakizaka46-type styling but i just as much like the more conventional 2nd gen gg styling mixed in with contemporary gg outfits here. the big dresses with the swords in some shots are probably my favorite parts, it reminds me of some dreamcatcher visuals (can't remember which, maybe scream or deja vu?) and the members look stunning in them. i also have to mention their makeup and the glittery jewelry everywhere, it's gaudy but in the best way possible. btw i love mia channeling her inner g-dragon here it fits her so well (the scenes with the glittery eyepatch and twintails hello!!!!)
aw, this might be their first miss for me. i like some elements of it but overall it sounds too dated for me and not in a way i personally vibe with idk. mv is fun eye candy though and i will be rewatching for that alone so there's every chance it'll grow on me lol.
cause i'm a pirate 🏴☠️ yeah yeah a pirate 🦜 yeah yeah a pirate ☠️
ok before i say anything else let me say how i will never be over how they worked 'shiver me timbers' into eus rap lmao they did her DIRTY
anyway ok so i'll admit that that first verse was a pretty frenetic experience, an awful lot of stuff happened in that first minute. i was like oh we're already doing??? the hook??? but then when sihyeon came in it kind of all made sense to me and then mia's part backed it up and yeah. i'm into it. I really really love the 'girls all over the world' whole section, it's a really good melodic section that still fits with an Everglow song. Can't wait to see a translation, it sounds like a nice girl power anthem. i'm also very eager to see the full choreo. that said i'm so glad they finally have a point dance that's vaguely easy to do omg i can finally learn something
it needed the line distribution of ladida, there was absolutely no reason eu/aisha/onda/yiren couldn't have had one more part each. i would've maybe given mia's part after aisha's pirate verse to onda and her last part to eu. but at least eu had more than one (1) part.
i don't think i can watch the mv again just due to mia's bridge lmao that made me queasy. still they all looked good. onda in the silver outfit is great, i loved mia's black catsuit thing in the planet scenes (and i'll appreciate mia's eyepatch thing for the weird experimental 2nd gen throwback it is i guess). there were some really nice makeup looks in this.
eta: oh also the best part about this whole comeback is that tiny but very angry & loud portion of the ateez fandom mad that another kpop group is doing anything pirate related lmao
Lmao what. I mean, I guess I appreciate them being so dedicated to NOISE and going all in. Sihyeon's prechorus was super corny but she's selling it, the club beats are fun (in a very 2010s way lol) and the "I'm a pirate" line is already stuck in my head. Sihyeon and Mia still dominate the song but I feel like everyone had a memorable moment at least. I don't know about you all, I can see myself jamming to it in a few days as a guilty pleasure lmao
this gave me huge t-ara/10s girl group loud club anthem nostalgia lol. the whole y2k industrial adjacent styling was also a fun touch to this mv
but sigh...it seemed like everglow *was* making progess with line distribution but from what i could hear it's a major backslide into being the mia and semi-siyeon show which is tiring to see in a group that's been around this long
I checked it out based on the comments since I wasn’t particularly interested at the moment, my interest in the group has cooled off a bit. I’m very I’ll get to it eventually currently. But these comments had me super intrigued lol!
I decided to just stream this and skip the MV for now, and I’m kinda into it! It’s interesting to see people say it sounds 2nd gen as an insult when it’s a sound a lot of us usually yearn for? I can easily see myself working out to it. The biggest flaw is the verses are pretty meh, the instrumental is really carrying this song. Does it fulfill the 2nd gen dance bops need I crave? Eh not really. But I appreciate it for trying!!! La Di Da remains their best title and possible peak currently.
Also maybe a hot take but I don’t mind Mia taking up most of the lines since one of my realizations is she is carrying the group. No offense to a lot of the members but they don’t bring much…
Final edit but I’m sort of surprised at the decline on their 1st day sales. They’ve never been a big album seller but they were seeing an increase with each comeback till this year, with their last album too having a slight decline. Though it is just 1st day, I’m just curious why

Date: 2021-12-01 09:44 am (UTC)They look gorgeous as always and it seems there's a fair line distribution (but then again what it is fair?)
I think one of the main reasons I don't like it's the in your face beat and the "I'm a pirate" part 😅😅
Anyways, I still hope they succeed
