Plot: Set in the 18th century, "Red Sleeve" depicts a love story between King Jeongjo and royal concubine Uibin Sung.
Sung Deok-Im (Lee Seyoung) is a court lady. She gets involved with Crown Prince Yi San (Lee Junho) and he falls in love with her. The crown prince eventually becomes King Jeongjo. He now desires Sung Deok-Im to become his concubine, but she refuses. Sung Deok-Im wants to live her life freely, something that will not be possible as a concubine. She also knows that life of a royal concubine does not generally bring about happiness. Yet, Sung Deok-Im becomes the concubine of King Jeongjo.

Date: 2021-12-12 11:27 am (UTC)for the rest i really love the drama so far, i was right from the beginning not to trust the prince's best friend but the other palace officials it's not really clear to me yet. i have some mixed feelings about deokim's dedication to being a court lady and in particular to the men in her life (her brother; the prince) but for the rest i love her character and the interactions between her and the rest of the court ladies (this was the main reason why i wanted to watch the show). the way the show is filmed is also really pretty! the way they show deokim running around the palace reminds me of an analysis i've seen of british period dramas like pride and prejudice where they wanted to represent the agency of the female lead through her running around a lot
