the answer is simple: just don't gather with family! the last time i did a holiday w/ extended family was thanksgiving 2017, and that was pm just my grandma. the last time we joined a massive gathering, i was probably 12? 13? something like that.
most of my dad's siblings don't talk to him bc they thought they deserved a lot of money for not taking care of their mother 🙄 my mom's siblings would probably rather she drop dead; it's been like that ever since she was young. only got worse after her mom died. makes me glad i only have 1 sibling 🤡

i still have to buy some items for our dinner next week. i plan on making an apple cake (https://www.whitelily.com/recipes/fresh-apple-cake-with-butter-pecan-glaze-3594/) for dessert, and i think i'm gonna use these cosmic crisp apples i just tried out last night, lol. they're so damn delicious!! pls try them if any of y'all ever get the chance.

i called my PCP earlier this week and asked them to send a rheumatology referral in for me 🥲 i found one in birmingham with good reviews; he did all his studies at some very good schools too. it'll be a few months before i get in, so i'm gonna work on getting a license and car before then 😭 i need to anyway, but my dad saying he hates going to birmingham really struck a nerve with me...... plus i'm going to portland in april and won't be able to rely on public transit the whole time i'm there :/

i finally got back into ACNH and my island didn't look as bad as i expected it to?

It's not as bad as it used to be. But my island is suffering from a flower invasion. I keep taking out so many plants a day but since it's raining almost everyday the next day more plants have appeared that the amount that I took out. I'm at a point where Iwish there was some kind of scythe to just crop out flowers 4 at a time or something.

Oh, I wanted to pick it up but I'm still going through the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, and have SMT III remaster to play (and a bunch of others lol). I was waiting to see if I liked SM3 before picking up 5 since I haven't played none of the SMT/Persona games before. Are you familiar with the series or is this your first time playing it? How are you liking it so far? I like JRPG's a lot but sometimes they are a bit too much, I remember picking up DQXI last year and droping it at 10-15 hours in because the story was dragging big time, and I loved 8 and 9 and some of the spin offs. So I was worried that I felt the same about SMT5.

Livejournal actually takes around 90~KB for a gif, this Jungwoo one is 95KB. When I was making it I had the same problem as you, if it was too large it didn't animate as you said. What I ended up doing was resizing down to 100x100 pixels and cutting frames until it was an adecuate size.

since livejournal handles 100kb icons you can work with up to around 15 frames, give or take 5 depending on the color range. so basically if you want the gif to look good try reducing frames and speed more often than compressing and reducing quality, but for me it's a case by case basis pretty much lol. some icons look fine with the lossy compression, others look super crusty. just try to make the animation itself a short action since trying to do a big one takes a lot of frames and reducing the frames makes it look worse lol

yesterday, even though i still dont feel good about the idea of concerts yet i bought a ticket to the rescheduled ateez tour lol. i had a ticket originally i got refunded to free up my money so i was telling myself if i try for tickets this time and i get a worse ticket than the one i had then (my old ticket was already really good) i would call that fate and not go but instead i think i got a seat right next to the stage lmao 💀 so much for me trying to let fate convince me not to go
i saw there was an article on naver saying 54k people tried for tickets to london which is insane lmao even when you take into consideration that it likely isnt 54k people in reality, like i had 5 different queues open waiting for tickets and most fans do the same, its still a crazy amount of people trying to buy at most a couple hundred tickets considering most people kept theirs from the original ticket sale. its crazy how much their fanbase is grown in 1-2 years.

anyway i will probably go and realistically if twice come to europe i dont want to miss that either and everyone i know will be triple vaxxed by that point as its a couple of months away.....but it still doesnt feel right to be in massive crowds.

i can definitely relate to the worries about concert crowds. i really want to see twice on their tour but my covid anxiety is super crushing and i don't know if i could handle a concert, it feels too soon and i'm not confident that masks and vaccinations in the hall would be enforced. adjusting is hard lol

My side of the world doesn’t celebrate thanskgiving so I have no idea what the choices are mainly. Also covid restrictions means I haven’t had a group gathering in a while.

On another note, I’ve been keeping myself occupied with a few dramas. After Alice in Borderland, I checked out the actor who played Karube and watched 2 of his dramas. Guilty is a shit drama please do not waste your time. But there was also Cherry Magic, which is great fluffy short drama. I’m not fan of BL dramas because they tend to be fetishising and just bring hetero tropes into a M/M relationship, but this was pretty well done imo. And while it doesn’t have the usual heartwrenching/emo plot, it brings about something fresh?

I also enjoyed this cdrama called The Day of Becoming You. It’s a typical body swap love story, but the leads were pretty entertaining. It was also written/produced by the ones behind Go Ahead (my fave drama from 2020), so there was a familiarity and some of the actors were back in this show. Also currently watching My Huckleberry Friends because of the male lead

I answered "mulled wine" because I'm more likely to drink it rather than white russian, eggnog (I think it's a beverage?!!!) or irish coffee, but the answer truely is alcohol lol. I don't think I've ever seen a family meal, in my family, without wine lmao (yay France?!). But tbh I rarely have drama when I see my family, because we just don't see the family members who cause drama anymore. Those I see are all chill and while there's always the occasional stupid sexist comment from an older SO, it gets shot down and we all carry on.
I think growing up with a grandma who would call people out on their bullshit then go no contact without any remorse made it very easy to avoid drama-filled events and focus on those I actually enjoy hanging out with.

Things are still rocky on my side. It was amazing to see two friends this weekend though, really helped me mentally, and I need to keep sending messages to friends. I might look more unwell than I think because one of the friends really insisted that I could call her anytime lol.

The one friend I wished happy birthday to 2 weeks ago still hasn't answered, so I think she doesn't want to talk to me. But! I actually don't feel bad about it! I like the message I sent her, and I'm not going to push things more. I'll ask before Christmas if she wants to hang out (since I'll visit my parents for a longer time) again without expecting an answer and it will be ok too. Using text message rather than whatsapp (with the blue notifications lol) helped a lot, I just sent it and I can't obsess about whether she read it/is ignoring it or not.

I still need to reach the group that may or may not have celebrated Halloween to ask if they want to hang out. I'll do the same, text messages rather than whatsapp so no obsession on my side, acknowledging somewhere in the message that right now it's hard for me to reach out. That's the plan.

Workwise, the person we planned to hire as my work partner won't join us (turned out he lied during the interview so... yikes) but we are changing our standards and might have two interviews lined up in two weeks. My boss is worried about my workload and was trying very hard to find someone that could immediatly take half of my work but we can't find one, and we had to change our strategy. I would rather add training to my workload BUT know that I'll be relieved soon, rather than the current status quo as I'm overworked already. Please let there be a Christmas miracle with those two interviews lmao.

And to end on music, Avril Lavigne's new single sent me right back to teenagehood, I love it!!! It's very simple pop punk but I don't care lmao. With the current revival, I really hope we get a pop punk concept in kpop!
I've also replayed Taylor's Red album(s) as if going through a break-up, some new recordings are really improving the songs (Girl At Home anyone?!) and I'm happy to finally get the 10min All Too Well even though my brain is confused (I've replayed the song so much that I could replay it in my head by memory, I have to get used to it). I never interact with swifties but I need to talk about it :o if anyone has thoughts to share lol.

we don't celebrate thanksgiving here but other holidays are coming up and i'm always mixed about it! we usually spend them with one side of the family and i really like all of the family except for my racist-sexist cousin — it's been a bit better the past few years (but maybe that's because of covid lol) but i've butted heads with him a lot lol!

anyway omona what were your accomplishments this week? on tuesday i was already so tired and longing for weekend so i'm happy weekend is finally here!!
finally my first-year students did well in our class discussions this week! we struggled a lot with this because students (esp one conservative one but to be fair other students too) were just not listening to each other and were just continuously trying to make their own (sometimes not even properly informed) points, which made other students feel quite intimidated to participate. after some one-on-one conversations with some anxious students and a class discussion on how to have productive discussions (again) i now let them first summarize their peers points before responding or asking open-ended, constructive questions before responding and it seemed to work quite well this week!! hope we can keep this up

hi omona! to answer the question because i realized i always forget lol: thanksgiving dinners have never been much of a problem for me since my family is kind of isolated from the rest of the large outer family (for many personal reasons), so it's always just been us, except for maybe one or two years where we spent thanksgiving with our grandparents. but my mom's starting to open up to our extended family more and planning stayovers and meetups and etc, so i'm sure when covid finally eases, whenever that is, i'll finally be introduced to the hellish holiday family dinners all my friends go through. not excited lol

the week was alright for the most part since we started a new quarter and got new classes, so everything is calm for the first few weeks until we start projects or whatever. i'm trying to avoid procrastinating my work like i did last quarter and forcing myself to get it done, despite my horrible focus issues, and last night i actually finished an essay without putting it off to the next day (and then never getting it done), so that was a little encouraging

i have some anxiety-inducing mandatory school events coming up that i'm not looking forward to at all, but i'll hopefully get through them
