So this is what it would have been like for Chowon had she not been robbed of her spot in izone.
It’s very Izone for me. There are some differences that stop it from being a complete match (the chorus is not as bouncy as izone’s would be and the lack of that final refrain/verse at the end of almost every. Izone song), but this feels taken from the book of That group musically.
But yeah...the song is nice though. Chorus not as catchy imo. But overall fun.
This is very izone/WJSN/multiple girl groups at this point. Not just in sound, but in visuals too. It’s like it’s a package, if you have songs like this you have to have music videos like this. Lol.
It’s pleasant to listen to but not sure if I’ll save it currently. It’s interesting when groups go this route since I think it only worked for iz*zone, but it worked because of their large loyal fanbase. Lightsum doesn’t have that so I’m not sure how this will do. It’s interesting how prevalent this sound is for girl groups when it isn’t that popular with general public. I like it from to time for sure but there’s also an element of predictability like we get here (all kpop has that but it’s more obvious here than with others)
For b-sides I saved Popcorn, it’s pretty catchy and lively. It’s leaving a stronger impression than the title lol.
I will also add this and their first concept is at least friendly to the multiple younger members of the group. Skirts are quite short though based on that performance, but that problem is nothing new for kpop
But currently don’t have strong opinion on this group. Which is ok, I’m older so I’m not their audience but yea haha.
100%. It sounds like dozens of others groups and nothing exciting for me. It's safe but not going to get them a lot of attention. Then again, I rarely have the same music tastes as Korean general public so who knows, maybe it blows up? I doubt it though.
It makes me think of a TWICE bside without looking at the MV. Including the 2 person rap.
it's not bad at all but it left basically no impression on me, therefore i would probably agree it sounds like an izone song considering i could never get into their discography either lol.
i feel like i'm kind of missing some sort of dedication to creating a catchy hook to this song and a concept in general? the styling is cute though but this feels more like a bside
I like the black and white hounds tooth outfits. If they put out a performance video, it should be just that.
Song wise, I'm not super impressed by these new groups. I feel they aren't bringing something new. The song isn't bad of course. Very fun and poppy, but I feel like I've seen/heard it before. Maybe this is what happens with kpop. At some point it's like you've heard everything and it's not exciting anymore.
Echoing all the comments here, my first thought while listening to it was that it seemed like a watered down WJSN or IZONE song. This is the first comeback and i worry that they’ll be plagued with the same problem that CLC did where they had virtually no musical identity of their own. They also don’t seem to be making much of an impression of both the gp and international audiences. I hope that I’m proven wrong for Chowon’s sake.
idk if the production is a rush job or half-assed, but it seems like they were instructed to sing it straight so everything sounds so one-note tonally. would have been more interesting if they could add some character to the verses. the main and subvocal voices sound too similar, and the only member with a real opportunity to distinguish herself is probably Sangah. The fact that they have too many members is more apparent here (and they could do without 3-4 members tbh)
I feel like the Cube groups that don't self-produce don't usually fare too well bc Cube is so out of touch with trends, is bad at gauging the defining persona of each group, and doesn't take members' creative interests seriously usually until at least their 2nd-3rd year into their career, leaving them to struggle with some bad to WTF titles for awhile until they have the opportunity push their own music. These girls are young so they may not have figured out their sound themselves yet, but I can't help but think how this may mess with their morale like how it's affected others.
echoing the izone/wjsn sentiments, however i do feel like this song was much better even from the off than their debut, so i'm happy for them in that. if we think back to clc's comeback song...i kind of feel like that non-event had already sealed their fate.
chowon looks incredible. yujeong really does have great energy! i love the way a lot of these post-produce groups seem a pick up a low ranking contestant from another agency (or even another programme) along the way, they always find such gems.
amusingly, i genuinely have trouble picking juhyeon out. that's not a remark to say she's had surgery or anything, i just think puberty + idol styling + taking out her braces really changed the way she looks lol! also she had a lot less lines in this comeback which is not necessarily a bad thing, hina and huiyeon (i think) got shafted again but hopefully there'll be a balancing out of the lines a bit soon. I am surprised that Jian is a rapper in this group considering Cube has a fairly decent track record for actually turning out decent female idol rappers, she is so flat it's remarkable.
Well I liked Izone or WJSN's music so I really ike this too. I tried not to think about Izone but honestly I could imagine parts of a line distribution if they had got this song instead lol, except Izone would have more variation with the last chorus/outro. The chorus isn't the catchiest, and I don't actually remember the melody now that the song is over but I can see this getting a few plays from me. It's fine. The girls are handling it well. I wish there were more plays with the line distribution, every member pretty much have the same line repeated each time (really prechorus then chorus are just copy pasted lmao) but that's on the producers, not the members! I honestly don't remember their debut I need to check it out again oops. Can't say if it's a good comeback if I can't compare!
This sounds like a WJSN song but one of the ones I would find kind of meh and not really listen to much again a-la Dreams Come True >_> I REALLY enjoyed Vanilla so its too bad they didn't come back with something more like that. Not saying they need to have the same song over and over but just...anything closer to that lol
obvious izone knockoff but i like it a lot - not as much as vanilla though. chowon looks incredible and nayoung is so cute. i don't recognize the other members much yet but jian is cute, her age still kind of freaks me out though lol. the mv is nice too.
since they're going with an izone concept here i hope they don't completely abandon that super saturated cute concept they had with vanilla, it'd be cool to see a hybrid of this with the cute concept, like some of izone's peppier stuff but still with the glittery synths and deep bass.
it's certainly an iz*one song and tbh i think i would've preferred iz*one singing it?? i wanted to like this a lot; sonically, it's got almost everything i like, but i agree w/ shinychopstick that the vocals are very one-note. i got bored after the first chorus 😬 though if they released an instrumental of this i'd probably listen to it all day, lol. i definitely prefer vanilla overall.
It does remind of IZ*One but not as high. It's missing something, I think the chorus don't hit as hard as IZ*one's and the pauses here are longer. The song has a lot of talk-singing one-tone parts, and usually I don't mind it but it's very noticeable in this song.
They are a rookie group though. I guess management is trying out different genres to see what fits for this group (like CLC).
