awesome! i'll never understand why more ppl aren't organ donors. religious objections i kind of get, but i've heard so many ppl who are just like "i don't trust the government with my organs" and i'm like ok, so you trust the worms?
I'm happy about this. In portugal, unless you tell the goverment you don't want to be a donor, your organs are eligible to be donated which makes me very happy.
Is anyone here a donor? I donate blood (pretty basic), bone marrow and I've donated eggs as well.
it's the same here since last year :) but i was already registered as an organ donor before.
i've donated blood in the past, but since i used to travel a lot i wasn't allowed for a while. i should get started again! but i always freaked out the nurses because my veins were always difficult to find lol they had to get an experienced nurse on it.
back home in the states i'm registered as an organ donor and i have been since i got my first drivers license. i've never weighed enough to donate blood even though i would love to.
here everyone is an organ donor as soon they are born, unless they say no (or their parents) but if people can, why not? it's not like im missing them when im dead, and since i want to be cremated, I think not being a donor is just a damn waste (if they are good obviously)
donating blood sometimes can be scary, but they give you a cookie, usually a nice cookie xD
I'm gonna be completely honest, when I donated for the first time, I did it for very selfish reasons; I wanted to basically know if I could have kids and get payed. But as I went through the whole process I realized I was actually helping couples who wanted to be pregnant and couldn't. Now, I would do it for free if someone asked, because the feeling of knowing you're helping people, is beyond anything I can describe.
Also, I want to tell you (this is where I live, idk how it works in other countries) you first sign to be a donor ; then you have to do physical and psychological exams to see if everything is okay. If it is, they start giving you medication (hormones) for 21 days, so you don't have your period, and then you've to go through a small surgery to remove the eggs. After like, 1h you can go and do whatever you want.
In my country, everyone is automatically considered an organ donnor, and those who don't want to be actually have to register/opt out. I think it's much better this way. Let's hope SK considers this option in the future! Even in by-default donation systems, I wish everyone to share their decision with their close ones! My close family and I have all been very vocal and clear that we ARE organ donors in case anything happens. It's very important to make sure the people who would be in talks with medical teams know exactly the answer
