We welcomed our trainee on Monday and it's going pretty well, she's curious about our work, a little shy at the moment but really handling all the new information and work well (we are careful not to overwhelm her haha). My boss also had a good interview with a candidate to become my main coworker (splitting my current workload in two) so I really hope HR start moving fast and we can welcome him soon in the team. My other coworker is still on sick leave and it's starting to become really tiring.

I SAW DUNE YESTERDAY! I was anticipating this movie like mad because 1. I'm getting really into Dune lately (the book + universe) at the moment and 2. Villeneuve! I like his films, enjoyed how he handled Blade Runner 2049 and thought he would be a good fit for Dune (and 3. Oscar Isaac with a beard is always welcome). I'm happy!
Visually it's a feast. They did a fantastic job with the set designs, spaceships, special effects. You also get Villeneuve's style in the architecture, I bet he worked with the same team as Blade Runner 2049.
The tone of the new Dune is VERY different from previous adaptations, especially the Lynch one. The soundtrack in particular (Hans Zimmer worked on the music) is very oppressive. The main villains changed from ridiculous/campy (Sting's everything lmao) to menacing/brutal (Sting's character is now played by... Bautista lol, not the same style!). Even the desert scenes aren't too bright/sunny (except some specific ones with a clear meaning behind), it's all very dusty and unwelcoming. Different choices that I thought worked well. And it balanced the overall mysticism of the story (and Villeneuve's style too) pretty well, it wasn't too overwhelming.
The movie follows the book quite closely so far, even quoting it. It changed the order of some of the scenes, especially in the beginning, and I found it easier to understand who is who and what are their goal (something I struggled with in the book). I would love to hear how someone who doesn't know Dune found it!
It was well played, Rebecca Fergusan especially was GREAT. She has a tricky character to play and I thought she handled the mix of strength and vulnerability well.
The colonialism criticism was vastly under-developped though, in spite of its grand introduction, I really hope it's the main focus of the next movie (please let it be a next movie). There's also a character whose motivations were kinda lost in the scenes, they never really got a scene for themselves (more like interactions with main protagonists) despite being a MAJOR plot device so the pay-off wasn't really there, I'm a little disappointed about it. But it really feels like nitpicking because everything was great.

Otherwise not much to talk about! very busy work week and not much hanging out.

omg i also saw dune yesterday!! so fun reading your thoughts especially since you've read the book + watched lynch's version!

i really enjoyed it (rebecca fergusan was AMAZING, such an interesting character too). visually and also musically it was great and overwhelming. i enjoyed many of the characters and their gray characterizations a lot too. i was a bit frustrated by the lack of interaction with the clear colonization of this planet, the orientalism of mostly middle eastern culture and also a bit confused therefore by what i now perceive as colorblind casting — but maybe the the next movies will interact with this more.

the movie made the story quite understandable to me, so maybe with this as a basis i will try to read the book?

i watched it with a friend who kept on mentioning that the emperor had major star wars emperor vibes so i had to keep reminding her that dune was most likely foundational to the star wars franchise (i did not watch star wars but idk)

must be tough having a colleague on sick leave! hope work will calm down a bit for you :)

Like the First Time is still one of my favourite T-Ara songs, I think. The chorus is just so slick. I even like the rap lmao, the champagne bling bling gets me 😂 it's just mindless fun mixed in more serious song!

You got me into checking BSH's credits (there's a dedicated wiki page lmao) and he also worked on Wonder Girls' Bad Boy or several 8Eight songs, that's quite the style difference from the musical directions BTS took lmao

Also, I've been having a lot of anxiety episodes lately, and I'm not sure why. My parents took their time, but now try their best to understand me, but it's hard when even I don't know why im having anxiety lately ( i tried to think about what triggered me, can't remember)

Also, I am still having issues with my Photoshop. Is it possible for anyone to help me? Im trying to make gifs, but everytime I try it says "Dynamiclink error". I tried to download it, I tried to do everything, still not working.

It's hard to always pinpoint exactly what's happening! Maybe you could keep up a log of different events/feelings you experienced before anxiety episodes to see if there's a pattern?

I only started watching Love, Death & Robots for the first time yesterday, and I'm super late for something that I didn't realize is totally up my alley (short animations, horror, scifi). IDK why I didn't check it out sooner but at least I got something good to watch now!

hi omona! i started school this week and it's strange being back in the building after a year and a half. i've been really anxious about covid since the pandemic started so that hasn't been helping much either - i didn't even know how i'd fare back in the building but so far it's alright. i just wish that i didn't have to be back at school during a pandemic but there's no other way i guess.

i've been a little behind on kpop lately (still haven't listened to the stayc comeback even though they're one of my favorite groups lol?) but i'm really looking forward to the aespa comeback and the itzy full album. though maybe part of me is more excited to make icons from the videos lol. gif icons are tedious to make but satisfying to post even if i don't like how they come out most of the time
