Starship Reveals Plans To Launch New Girl Group This Year

Starship Entertainment is getting ready to debut a new girl group this year, and the lineup may include former IZ*ONE members Jang Won Young and An Yu Jin!

On August 22, Star News reported that Jang Won Young and An Yu Jin will be re-debuting as part of Starship Entertainment’s upcoming girl group that is scheduled to debut within the second half of this year. According to the report, the rest of the members will be composed of other teenaged Starship Entertainment trainees, but the name of the group, number of members, and group concept have not been decided yet.

A source from Starship Entertainment confirmed to YTN Star, “We are preparing to launch a new girl group in the second half of this year.” The source added, “Though we are aiming for the second half of the year, we cannot confirm the details with you. We ask for your understanding.” They did not share a comment on whether Jang Won Young and An Yu Jin will be part of the new group.

Jang Won Young placed No. 1 on on Mnet’s 2018 survival show “Produce 48,” while An Yu Jin placed No. 5. Both debuted as part of the project girl group IZ*ONE, which disbanded in April 2021.

Apologies in advance as I never followed produce 48, but is this the first gg post iz*one to have iz*one member? If so, it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out (esp popularity of iz*one members vs rest of group) considering all post ioi groups flopped

oh lol i just thought about this a few days ago, starship is due for a new gg. although i thought it would only be yujin in the group and wonyoung would be pushed into acting.

yujin is the main dancer after chaeyeon and eunbi so i assumed she would be in the new gg. wonyoung is very, very popular and i feel like starship would be taking a risk with her in the group bc if they aren't careful the group will end up being another pristin or gugudan, she'll get tons of akgae who might sabotage the group lol. i wasn't thinking of wonyoung's acting skills at all. 😂

this will be interesting. i saw a rumor that the new group would have 9 members and...that feels like a potential gugudan situation, down to three girls auditioning and two making it into the group

i hope there's not too many members - and i hope this doesn't negatively impact wjsn too much

seeing how the soloists from ioi did better and wanna one all the soloists (except jaehwan and daniel) have middling trajectory, i am interested in seeing who will manage to come out well after they've all got their careers going.

This is going to be interesting. It's going to be yuijin, Wonyoung and the other starship trainee from PD48 - Cho Youngin, I hope there aren't too many members in this group.
It would be safer to cater to IZ*one fans and give Wonyoung & Yuijin more parts or "killing" parts.
I want to see how the company will balance between all the members & how they plan to avoid what happened to Gugudan/Pristin/DIA.

as long as it's an age appropriate concept I guess? starship was always so eager to debut a new group, and yujin alone can't carry the group so they definitely need to balance out wonyoung and yujin. hope the other girls don't get shafted
