Follow-up to this post.

Global Times, an English-language Chinese newspaper under the People’s Daily, reported on August 16, “‘Chinese-Canadian pop idol Kris Wu Yi Fan has been arrested on suspicion of r*pe,’ Beijing’s Chaoyang District prosecutors said in a statement on Monday.”

Kris Wu made his debut through EXO in 2012, but he departed the group in 2014 due to issues involving his contract with SM Entertainment. After arbitration in court, SM Entertainment and Kris Wu reached a settlement in which his contract with SM Entertainment would remain valid until 2022, as per his original contract.

Having been promoting as a singer, actor, model, and producer in China, Kris Wu was detained by Beijing police on July 31 for suspicion of r*pe. The artist has been accused of sexual abuse by 19-year-old student Du Meizhu. Du Meizhu has stated that there are many other victims besides herself, including other minors.

Kris Wu immediately denied the accusations, but brands who had appointed Kris Wu as their model quickly broke ties with him, and his official social media account was deleted following his detainment.

While the investigation is ongoing, another person claiming to be a victim of sexual abuse by Kris Wu emerged in the United States. On August 11, US-based Chinese news site The China Press reported that a Chinese woman living in Los Angeles, referred to as “A,” recently visited attorney Jing Wang to request legal support, claiming to have been sexually abused by Kris Wu a few years ago.

Chinese exchange student “A” had not yet been 18 years old by international reckoning at the time she had participated in Kris Wu’s Los Angeles fan meeting. “A” exchanged WeChat IDs with Kris Wu, and she was allegedly sexually abused the second time they met.

His stans are vile. Don't read the Soompi comments (although some are definitely outraged).

It is a burden but also I wonder if they are thanking the gods that he left the group and the company like that

how long do you guys think it will take for him to get a sentence? is a death penalty still an option or is this unsure?

I'm wondering the same as well.

I honestly think that, as the Chinese Government does not fuck around, they might want to make Kris an example to "no matter who you are, if you're guilty, you will pay"

But I wouldn't be surprised if he made some sort of deal that instead of the death penalty he managed give names from other people and say X amount of years in jail.

idk, i have no idea how it works

From: [identity profile] aures.livejournal.com
oh i didn't even think about that kind of option.
really curious (?) to see how things will turn out. tbh, i'm not pro death penalty, i hope he will never get out of jail

I've no idea, but I personally think if given the chance, he will do/accept any deal to avoid the death penalty. He perhaps has some names that he can give to save his ass, or at least he might do the "if im going down, i'm taking you with me" kinda thing. I wouldn't be surprided.
But again, as I do not know the Chinese legal system, I don't even know if this will be given to him

I'm not pro death penalty either, but I hope he gets a life time in jail with 0 chances of ever coming out.

idk if his being a canadian citizen will have an impact on his sentence. I don't think China gives the death penalty to dual-citizens.

I've read somewhere, and please do not quote me on this, I'll try to google it later and provide links if I find it, but China had previous cases with criminals that were dual-citizens and that didn't stop them from giving the death penalty.

again, please do not quote me. I know I've read it before, but I'll check it and if I find links, I'll give them to you

edit;

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/07/china-canada-death-penalty-sentence-drug-charges (the irony, its a another canadian....)
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/01/15/china/china-canada-executions-africa-intl/index.html (I didn't find another with a dual-citizen, but it is a foreinger)

again, the death penalty with Kris is 99,9% impossible, but we never know

Considering the tensions between Canada and China right now and what you just posted you're totally right about Kris, then oh well should have just not been a trash ass man.

exactly.

don't be trash and you won't go to jail! it doesn't seem something very hard to do!

they just sentenced a Canadian to die last week so that's not gonna help Kris. Although just cuz the death penalty is the maximum doesnt mean that what's gonna get given. I'd be a lil surprised if he got then, but could see him getting 7-10 years behind bars or more depending on how many of the allegations can be "proven."

In the West, "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" is pretty hard to establish in SA cases even when the mf'er did do it, but in China they prob just wanna make an example so he gonna be fuckedd.

This is true in China as well. SA cases are very hard to prove. My hunch is if the drug rumors are true and they have hard evidence of that, that's what will sink him.

The death penalty thing is a ridiculous rumor started by Twitter ifans. It's only given in extreme situations where the rape victim is very young or significantly physically harmed. There are unfortunately thousands of rape of minor cases in China every year that involve victims much younger than the age of consent, which is 14 btw. Only a scant few have gotten the death penalty.

Np. These posts about WYF in here are kind of a clusterfuck of wrong information, but the case is being well followed by mainland-focused translation accts on Twitter.

Thanks for clarifying. I have been seeing the whole death penalty rumor all over youtube videos and shorts about this and his stans are using it as a way to gain sympathy for KW and guilt trip anyone who believes the victim as possible murderers of KW.

I didn’t know he still had a contract with SM since I don’t know EXO like that, I thought he was completely let go after everything happened back in the day. Does that apply to those other guys who left too?

I hope the victims get justice!!!!

if my brain is working properly, and please anyone correct me if I'm saying something wrong, one of the deals to let him leave EXO and be by himself in China was if he gave some % of his paycheck to SM or something like that.

I might be totally, totally wrong, but I swear it was something like that!

No, you're right. He and the other 3 guys (and also Lay) have to give I think 10% of their earnings to SM and can't promote in Korea because SM is their management company there. So they're free to sign with any agency worldwide except Korea. 2022 is when their original contract ends so they really signed a 10-year slave contract.

Date: 2021-08-17 01:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rennehollic.livejournal.com
ah I knew it was something like that!!
Im pretty sure SM is just taking as much money as they can from Kris now, and they'll end the contract right away, so they arenc associated with him anymore

Considering his net worth they received a nice passive income from him over the last few years. Should be enough to drop him right away.

Tbh some of the member could be glad that they signed the 10y contract, otherwise they'll have no career now, since there's so many successull group that IMO Exo has losing it too quick

It's really weird how quickly EXO fell of the scene. But I dont think the boys are sad,a few years ago they were all burnt out and done with the industry. Then BTS took over and SM reduced their schedules. I think they're happy with the way it is right now.

one of the first official sources to report the “news” Yifan is suspected of raping a underage fan in L.A., the Weibo account of People's Court Daily (a newspaper owned by the PRC Supreme People's Court), deleted their post. It was reposted by several courts previously.

The content of this now-deleted post by People’s Court Daily, is identical to the viral Weibo post by the account of The China Press (a Chinese publication in the US), the contents of which all can be traced back to a WeChat article posted a week ago.

In other words, it's an unverified non-story rejected by the courts about a week ago now.

Cnetz are currently debating whether the rape charges on him is from DMZ or someone else.

was it? all I remember is Omona's members keep praising his looks despite his uselessness in the group

but again, his skill is his ultimate look tho, so his current career suits him so much better than being an idol

They really didn't. As an unfortunate stan from day 1, if something was praised, it was his level-headedness and responsibility, which is why this whole thing smacked the fanbase in the face.

I would say omona loved Kai, Kyungsoo or Xiumin a whole lot more.
