i wonder if companies are going to secure vaccines for idols or if they're all going to have to fight for their life on the vaccine reservation website like the rest of us plebs here in korea. i highly doubt i'm going to secure a leftover vaccine so i'm just waiting for august 9 so i can try and book an appointment 😭

I’m like semi-seriously considering flying back to the States to see family and get my shots while I’m at it bc I feel like at this rate it’s going to be next year before 20s-30s can get vaccinated in Korea and leftovers are virtually impossible to get in Seoul. Cases are spreading so badly, it’s getting genuinely scary and it’s probably going to get worse again when the weather gets colder 😣. I just don’t understand why we’re so far behind with vaccines, it’s so frustrating.

So I have a side account on Twitter for my fandom stuff with my current fandom being a Korean webcomic, so I have a lot of Korean mutuals. And it’s been interesting watching a lot of them them post about the Olympics, especially the archery and volleyball. But I feel like it’s just proving my point that Korean nationalism is super strong and it’s kinda scary, esp with this tweet going around where a kid was holding his hand over his heart in front of a laptop screen with the Korean flag on it and everyone saying how cute it was. Does anyone else feel this was or has it always been understood or what? I can’t even talk about it on my main account bc I’m mutuals with a Korean that speaks English 😭

Tbh I feel like any country turns scarily nationalist during main international sport competitions. You regularly get people beating each others for football games (it gets intense here in Europe). Even looking at myself - I don't care about the national anthem but I'll be singing it heartfully before international sport games, that's the only time I bring it on. I also remember mini!me being taught by my grandma how to properly stand up during the national anthem and doing it proudly as if it's some kind of game, so I could have been this kid lol. My grandma isn't even that much of a nationalist
But I don't know Koreans well enough. They do seem nationalist overall (or at least that's the imagery I got to see from SK medias/communicaton/etc), so the peak that comes with international sport competitions must makes everything appear even more intense!

It’s definitely weird and I don’t blame any non-Koreans for not getting it at all lol (and I’m a re-patriated kyopo so I wasn’t raised with it and I only really “get it” secondhand.)
I’ll spare you the long version lol but in short, the more modern forms of nationalism were largely shaped by government-led responses to the Korean War (and by extension, the Japanese annexation) and basically taught to the population en masse as a method of helping overcome the country’s dire straits after colonization + war. It’s actually been diluted quite a lot amongst younger generations more recently but it’s so deeply rooted in the country/culture’s formal and informal curricula that it’s probably not going away anytime soon. It’s a double-edged sword bc I do believe that intense degree of post-war patriotism/nationalism was pretty vital to how insanely fast Korea stabilized and developed socioeconomically in just a few decades but the lingering uncritical, overzealous, frankly brainwash-y aspects of it can be pretty scary/ugly 😬

The Olympics in particular are a prime example, and an especially irrational one lbr, of individual accomplishment being interpreted as national strength and pride (plus this is also exacerbated by how high-level sports and the national team system are structured in the country).

Y’all I’m finally MOVING! And I’ve procrastinated packing so….I’m going to have to crack into my personal time from work to get it all situated. I’m in the same state but just moving to the city and it’s a normal hour drive there but idk what I should move in first 🥲 I still have to buy a new mattress and frame before I can sleep up there though.

I’m worried about moving when it looks like another wave of covid is going to hit but I’m hoping to get through this!

i think gathyou already gave you some great tips but what i've learned is that (at least in my country) it can take a while to get wifi so i always advise people to arrange that asap so that once you're actually living at your new place, you don't have to rely on your phone's hotspot. but maybe i'm just internet addicted lol

LIFESTYLE:
I finally dyed my hair dark again after having it in a weird pale bleached/sun-bleached brown in-between state for way too long, looking way more put together. Also gave myself the shag cut earlier.

Also, I walked past a 2nd hand shop having a sale yesterday while I was trying to find a place to go shorten a pair of pants, and later went in and came out with 7 garments for 14€

I got:
2 cute patterned+colorblcok sweaters
1 long red skirt with a lenght+fit is just right
2 patterned collar shirts
1 oversized polo shirt
1 cropped outdoor fitness jacket with a pocket for phone etc in the front!

Such a good deal that I just couldn't pass... but also I need to get rid of old clothes and I'm not as efficient in that category lol.

COVID:
They changed the vaccination period - from 12 weeks between 1 and 2 dose - to 8 weeks so I went to change my 2nd time and got it pushed earlier a little bit from September to mid-August. I haven't been following the news that much but apparently, cases are going up again. We're almost at 70% with 1st dose vaccinations but only around 30% have gotten the 2nd dose (of the whole population that is).

I was in the countryside with my family this month and while for the most part, we don't know any weird tinhatters, apparently someone from my mom's friend's friend group does believe in the whole tracking device conspiracy... no words lol.

Are you able to maintain the dark hair? I guess it's very soon of me to ask lol but wondering since I did the same back in the day thinking it was all over, but it started going lighter again immediately. But I also had (and have) no idea what I was doing, I thought getting it professionally done would be enough.

It's so terrifying when you actually hear of a IRL person who believes in the conspiracies. One of my coworkers doesn't think it's a tracker "but doesn't believe in vaccines in general", and???? I'm???? so looking forward to sitting in open landscapes with them in the near future!

I've had coworkers come out of the woods, not with conspiracy theories (thankfully!) but by saying it's overblowed and they shouldn't have to be forced to get the vaccine if they don't want to. Like most of the vaccines aren't mandatory in my country, only a few. And that they're in good health, they'll be ok. Maybe but you've seen first hand how the world completely stopped for a whole goddamn year because of this illness and lack of vaccines, with thousand of people dying of it, so now that vaccines are there, FUCKING GET IT??? FFS I was angry lol

Hello Omona!

Not much happening for me, it was a really quiet week at work. Hard to get back to work have short holidays, thankfully my coworker (the one who shares an office with me) is coming back from her own holidays on Monday so it will feel less lonely.

Hot Work Guy called me to set up a work meeting next week, there's one thing we need to look over together (I'm just not sure how much redacting he did on his own, thankfully redacting legal clauses is one of my forte so I'll manage) and I also need to bring him up to speed after he missed the training that the rest of the group (including me) did earlier this month. Buuuut tbh the idea of spending 2 hours in the same office room alone with him is already making my head spin a bit lmao. I'll tell y'all if I make a fool of myself next Tuesday!

There's so much I need to do this weekend like cleaning up, won't be a relaxing one for me! I hope you have a better weekend than me haha.

Cdrama: Falling into your Smile. On the romcom scale, they're semi- reasonable adults who don't always act like children. Also, starts a kpop idol turned cdrama actress. And I find him hot.

What are your internet language pet peeves? Mine: chef's kiss. When something is ubiquitous, it is no longer charming or descriptive. It's been everywhere for like 2+ years, make it stop.

Short hair in warm weather is always a winner. How is your hair now, is it long?

My language pet peeves are mainly Norwegians speaking English. Esp the boomers in the international field. The language is "fine" but the accent is so strong and if they mention a Norwegian name/city/unique thing they go out of their way to use their natural regional accent in saying it, making it incomprehensible for others including most translators/interpreters/transcribers. (This sounds so fringe lol but I've seen so much of it, it's not I promise!) I also hate it when Koreans for example get super excited when a white person like a Norwegian says "annyeonghaseyo", it's one word!!!!! It's not impressive they barely tried!!!

i'm only up right now bc i was checking out tickets for leon bridges, lol. the date i was looking at (2022, let's not get silly!) starts at 45 dollars for lawn tickets so... it's a no from me 🤡

my dog was at a new vet for 3 days this week 🥴 she hadn't eaten much for days and got to where she vomited everything she did eat. the vet we'd been seeing didn't seem to give a shit about her not eating, so we took her to one that a family friend uses. it's a little far, but they actually did a physical exam and treated her really well.
poor thing had an infection and stage 1 kidney failure 😭 she'd also been on a type of insulin that doesn't work well in dogs!! they admitted her on monday and had her on IV fluids, antibiotics, a catheter, and changed the kind of insulin she gets. by the next day her glucose was below 300, which is really good. her kidneys are back to normal function now. she came home yesterday, and the only issue is that she definitely has an interest in food, but not in actually eating it. sooo we have to force feed her with a syringe 🥴 she doesn't seem to mind, though!
i'm glad she's okay; i was worried and really thought she was dying or something :(

today i spent my whole day assembling a new ikea wardrobe with a friend and it's still not finished 🥲🥲🥲🥲 so my weekend plans are set lol! my apartment feels like something has exploded in my house there's stuff for the new and my old wardrobe everywhere (the old wardrobe can only be collected next monday...) + my clothes lol

for the rest i got my second jab last monday (yaaaay), was completely out of it on tue and a bit still the days after.. good that the olympics are on because it's really easy to watch when you cannot focus on anything

IM OFFICIALLY ON VACATION! IM GONNA GET TANNED! (or so I hope so!) Monday I'm gonna get my second dose of the vaccine and me and my dad already had tshirts made saying "we are inoculated" just to piss off his side of the family, cause they are anti vaxxers. (you can see where I get my sense of humor...)


Also Omona, what are your ideal vacation hobbies? I'm trying to come up with ideas for me and my boyfriend. We don't live together, but we are going to spend our vacation together, and it was unexpected so we kinda need plans xD we are going away for the weekend so, I need some ideas! (he is like the whitest man alive, he cannot be under the sun like i wished xD I want sun and cocktails xD)

Y’all I’m a hot mess rn 🥺 it was my first week of work and I got nauseous on day 3, fever on day 4 and had to get covid tested today. I can’t tell if my body is reacting to the stress work or all the smoke from the Canadian fires but I feel like a wooden stake is lodged in between my lungs and stomach, my stomach is a knotted up mess and I just feel like I’m gonna break in two. My doctor wants me to quit and try a partial program (like the 3rd time a doctor told me to go so hmm..) but I haven’t signed up for work insurance and I’m sure I’ll loose it if I quit and I worked so hard to finally get a good paying job but honestly once I got there I felt so overwhelmed I get excruciating headaches and cry to my dad every night. I’m dreading Monday (hopefully my test come back negative) and idk what to tell my leader? They chased after me for this role and I got way more than I asked for…I just feel like I’m really wasting everyone’s time if I quit but idk if I have it in me to continue :/

1. Get physically checked. 2. If a couple doctors have recommended it, explore it. Maybe you can do something like sign up for work insurance, explore, and then do partial work/partial health help. I'm not saying that is what you should do, I'm suggesting explore options bc feeling terrible regularly is not ideal. And maybe there is a way to lessen that.
