BEcause is inspired by the movie "Us" Their choreographer said there's hidden doppelganger, human chain, mirror, rabbit, scissors and the hanja character 悲 in the choreo.
I watched the live performance yesterday so I had spoiled myself hahaha. I really like this! I felt underwhelmed by the lack of rock in the live audio but they're absolutely featured and more easily heard in the studio version, especially during the pre-chorus. It's a good balance between rock and the more pop elements of other parts. Dami's first rap break also doesn't feel as disconnected from the rest of the song to me with the proper audio too. The line distribution is pretty good! I love SuA's part in the bridge omg.
The MV is pretty and I enjoy how eerie/creepy it feels even though nothing is overly scary Red hair suits Gahyeon so much!
Now onto the bsides : - Airplane is cute and fun, I'm not connecting much with it yet but it will slide nicely in my summer playlist - Whistle doesn't hit as hard at the medley led me to believe, but it's still a bop! Probably my favourite out of the bsides. - I love Alldaylong but then I already knew I would lmao no surprise here - A Heart of Sunflower is sweet, but not their most memorable
Overall I like it! If I rank the song, it is lower on the list just because I think the beginning is a little boring and they’ve had more interesting instrumentals. But I’m still into it, Gahyeon’s part is a standout for me. The bridge later on in the song is super pretty too. Basically the song didn’t come in with a bang for me, but I already have it on repeat which makes sense since I love these ladies. The outro to the song is great too.
The MV elevates it for sure. Since they’re selling much more these days their MVs have improved greatly, this one looks so good! I’m glad they embracing their OG creepy side since it hasn’t been prominent in awhile. Wish they pushed it further though.
The mini is ok. Alldaylong is gorgeous, definitely saving!!! My fave groups giving me city pop influenced songs :))) Whistle is giving me some earlier to mid 2010s pop vibes, I like DC has b-sides like this. I wouldn’t mind if this was the title either, I’m into it! Airplane is giving me Minx vibes but it’s not really doing much for me. It sounds a bit too immature imo, like it should go to one of these newer gen girl groups with teenage members. The ballad is pretty but also not very memorable. EDIT: Nevermind it has already grown on me lol!

This is so good!! I love that hair length on Yoohyeon and my girl SuA is stunning as always. She was the star of the performance for me, her and Gahyeon.
I'm OBSESSED!!!!! I love Gahyeon's focus!! She has the perfect murder stare and really fits this concept well. I love the creepy abandoned amusement park/hotel vibes!! Not a lot of good moments to make Yoohyeon icons, but oh boy the Gahyeon, JiU, and SuA stans are truly feasting on all the good moments!

hmm, got a mixed feeling about this. it started pretty bland then it progresses really good. i was afraid it would be a generic song. as a fan of dami's raps, i'm disappointed at how her part was made. it was messy! maybe i'd give it a few more listen to fully like it. the mv looks good though! bring back the nightmare mvs for dreamcatcher please!

what i also really like about this comeback is the concept and stage outfits. i know they're clad in cute dresses to portray as dolls (which can be also seen in their choreography and mv) but that's so not the dreamcatcher that i know lol. siyeon?? in skirt??? something new to my eyes.
I could not take my eyes off SuA and Gahyeon, my god. SuA especially is absolutely stunning, and I'm biased since she's my bias but oh well it is what it is lol.
Song is decent, now time to listen to the rest of the album!

Wasn’t sure about BEcause at first. But after a few listens it’s grown on me — I wish Sua’s part was a bit longer because it seems like it’s about to go hard & then doesn’t quite. Dami’s rap is usually my favourite part but a bit short lived.

A downgrade for me. Like super generic and nothing special. I was hoping for them to use a stronger sound ala Scream. Nothing is going to top Scream for a title track for me. The MV is good tho
Scream is their magnum opus for me. I was jaw dropping when I watched the MV because I loved the song so much. But because it hit a incredible high for me, I think DC is struggling to replicate it and now their following releases are starting to pale in comparison. For example Boca is my least favorite title track by them and so far this year we got Odd Eye and BEcause which I like but they’re not making much of an impact.
I hope they turn it around since I think they’re facing a roadblock, but they keep growing their fandom so something is working. Listening to their older stuff though, it really fit them the best and I wish they’d channel it more. This gave a taste but still played it too safe with the instrumental.
Scream was amazing tbh the only bad thing was Handong not being there. But it was perfect for me, vocals, instrumental, the choreo, the MV, outfits... Everything was amazing and especially felt like a step forward. Since then everything ended up sounding the same as prior title tracks, like you said trying to emulate the sound instead of creating something new. The same happened to some bsides too (silent night-in the frozen for example, tho I love both songs xD) I only hope that because fandom is growing up now with those comebacks they don't end up delivering the same over and over again (I am... or now not so much, a fan on Loona and same thing happened to them. Fandom growing with their worst sound and company thinking the growing it's because of the song/sound itself 🤦)
i don't know how i feel about this song, the second half is stronger than the first (like from @2:05 onwards i really like) and i like the verses so i feel the whole thing will grow on me the more i listen to it but the first half feels very disjointed. i don't mind dami's raps generally and actually enjoy a lot of them but this one doesn't fit at all.
i didn't think i minded the inclusion of a song like airplane based on the medley teaser but it turned out to be really generic :/ whistle is better but i don't know if it'll be in my heavy rotation either. alldaylong and a heart of sunflower are both nice and better quality than the other bsides but too slow for me to listen to them a lot.
overall it's probably my least favourite album from them, i wanted something more experimental. like yes, this album has songs that dont sound like their normal discography but they sound like rejected bsides from other gg's instead (airplane). like a concept mini is a great excuse to do something left field and if it doesnt work then forget about it but this was too safe for me, they need to break out of the rigid formula they have for their titles and i don't think was the way to do it. i obviously say this with ridiculously high standards for them and sub par albums from them are still better than a lot of other groups best. and as always im still excited to have more performances of theirs to watch because they always deliver on that front.
