i really liked hisoo and seohyuns overall narratives throughout this drama. i wish seohyun had been given a slightly more explicit and romantic ending but overall i'm really happy with how her storyline was handled especially as i lost hope half way when the husband of the actress who played her love interest spoke out to say the show was about lesbian characters "returning to normal" (theyre from a homophobic church) but like dude clearly didnt read the script (i kid he was probably just saying whatever to defend himself from his fellow homophobes) but i liked her coming out scenes with her husband and hisoo and the ex-nun apologising that she ever had to be in the closet for something that isn't a sin. like there was a lot of positive and reassuring scenes towards her and her sexuality which for a drama that achieved really decent ratings 10%+ is really nice to see. the only character who wasn't good about it was hisoos husband who is shown to be a terrible person.
with hisoo i loved that from the beginning she was just genuinely kind and i loved that it showed a really positive relationship with her and her son and kept emphasising that just cause she didnt give birth to him didnt mean she wasnt his real mother. i also liked that her and the birth mother/tutor were able to have some sort of understanding even though it was a bit messy at times, like the irony of having seohyun, the lesbian character, say someone can't have two mothers...okay lol....i get that it probably meant they were competing to have the exact same role in his life i guess which is impossible but at the end them saying they would raise him together was nice.
the only thing i was a bit hmmm at was hisoo faking amnesia to protect her son from the knowledge that his dad was trying to kill her like that cant be much more traumatic than thinking your mother forgot you and will never remember you? it didnt seem that in character but whatever.
hisoos husband really was the worst like he kept getting progressively more evil but that is the nature of makjang drams. between this and swnk lee hyun wook keeps playing people i really hate lmao. his captions (https://twitter.com/hwanansae/status/1409328275772428290?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1409328275772428290%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fomonatheydidnt.livejournal.com%2F27840641.html) on instagram (https://twitter.com/hwanansae/status/1406297691290673153?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1406297691290673153%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fomonatheydidnt.livejournal.com%2F27840641.html) have been quite funny lately complaining people keep cursing at him, thankfully he deals with it pretty well but i do wish people would learn better boundaries talking to actors
supporting character wise i could have done without the rich lady bible club characters as i don't think they added anything but i guess they were supposed to be comic relief? and i'm happy the writer as they went along included less and less of the sons scenes with the maid, i like hakyeon and jung yiseo but their storyline was sooooo boring, they were okay to watch in scenes with other people but their romance was such a snooze i'm glad it wasn't included much in the last couple of episodes.

Date: 2021-06-29 11:52 am (UTC)i need to limit my talking loloverall though i did really enjoy it and i didnt expect to i initially only started watching purely because of the lead actresses but i'm glad i did as there arent a ton of dramas keeping my attention lately. kim seo hyung remains flawless and i hope this isn't her last lgbt role, she spoke about wanting to do a korean remake of carol before and i would like to see it!!!

Date: 2021-06-29 06:18 pm (UTC)There were some characters and storylines that had no value or were handled poorly (e.g. the sister) but I loved that it was truly women-centric and it gave us more Kim SeoHyung.

Date: 2021-06-29 07:54 pm (UTC)cons — i love hakyeon too but his scenes in this are so boring that i fast forwarded most of them so if you're only going to watch for him i wouldn't lol. it's a makjang so its not realistic and features a lot of rich people nonsense. the first couple of episodes drag but it does get better.
pros — its entertaining, is female centric, has good female characters and interesting relationships between them and handles issues like adoption nicely at least relative to other dramas i've seen and in context of what is a very dramatic show and features a lesbian character whose storyline is handled very respectfully.
