Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to see what we were listening to in the 4th week of June, 2008.


#3 SHINee “Replay”
“Replay” was the group’s debut song, from the EP of the same name. The song would be a huge hit, especially with older females. The EP would debut at #10, and they would also win their first award, Rookie of the Month, a month later. 3 years later the group would debut in Japan with this same song too. Here’s their first ever stage, at Inkigayo. Still how I see Taemin 90% of the time lol. Lil baby.

#2 Taeyang “Only Look At Me”
This is from his EP “Hot”. Both the album and the song would peak at the top spot. This release would also give him some wins at the year end awards shows, and his first solo concerts. Here’s a stage from Music Core. Forever Hairstyle, white tank top, dance break, dancer Kim Jihye…vintage Taeyang lol.

#1 Wonder Girls “So Hot”
This was initially released as a digital single, a maxi single release would follow later. The song would quickly reach the top spot, and was the follow up to their “The Wonder Years” album. They would take most of the music show trophies in June and July. Here’s one of their performances on Music Core. I want Sohee’s shorts for this summer.

Honorable Mentions

#5 SG Wannabe “Lalala”
This was the first promotions with new group member, Lee Seokhoon. This was the lead single from “My Friend”, and would chart in the top ten. This past March, the group reunited on Yoo Jaesuk’s “Hangout With Yoo” for the first time since 2018. They performed live and the songs climbed back up the domestic charts. The videos would gather millions of hits, like this one.

#7 Jewelry “Everybody Shh!”
This was their follow up to the huge hit “One More Time”, which was released a few months prior. It wasn’t as successful. But I loved this song lol. It calls to my former cheerleader heart. Still got the uniform in the closet.

So hot was the first promotion cycle that I followed in kpop ever. Everything about this time in kpop feels particularly nostalgic to me

So hot was my first ever kpop comeback so it will always be VERY special to me. Not just the period but the styling - one thing I hate when people cover this song is that they don't COMMIT! Where are the high waisted denim pants? The cheetah print? The BRIGHT ORANGE lipstick?? LOL

Sunye really pulled off that asymmetrical haircut too

Honestly, Sunye's styling was both trendy and ahead of the curve. No one pulled off that high waisted bell bottom(?) like she did. I'm also struck by how a lot of idols were seemingly darker than now?

Yes! The wonder girls really pulled off the retro looks really well and their styling in general was good.

That is true! Seems like there was less emphasis on looking ghost white back then lol. And also maybe the lighting on sets weren't that good back then? Ha! Kpop really is so different now. Way too serious for me now 🤣

Whew, Sunye's haircut was goals! She really rocked that short hair like nobody's business! I'd say Sunye, Nicole and Eunjung are the women who look best to me with those kinds of cuts. I was also loving Yubin's bob here.

2008 was a great year! I miss when idols would sing live with minimum backtrack. Now everyone sings with a loud backtrack and you can barely tell if they're singing live or not.

When I think of Key, I think of the off shoulder layered tank top. He has so many iconic outfits, but this outfit is Ol' Faithful and never fails to please me regardless of current fashion trends

Ugh, Replay is still my fave debut song to this day...AND ONE OF MY FAVE KPOP SONGS EVER! I will forever be jamming to this! XD

I'm so hot! I'm so cool! Wonder Girls, my queens! *O* I really loved the styling for this era. This was my fave era from them! I still find myself randomly rapping to Yubin's rap lol

Literally the first promotion cycles I saw once getting into Kpop. My friend showed me kpop sometime in spring 2008 and so summer 2008 I looked up as much as I could on youtube.
