i really like some parts of it but it seriously lacks a proper chorus i can't remember what it sounds like as soon as the song stops
it's cool that the members got to compose most of the album but although the songs aren't bad at all they all feel like they're lacking something, idk it's prob my least favourite album from them. secrets is probably the only b-side that i'll replay.
They outdid themselves 💜 I was worried that Jooheon is going through a slump with Beastmode, but this one is really well refined. I love all the guitar and mix with the drop, and the high notes between Jooheon and Kihyun??? I'm a bit worried that there's no loud chorus, but we'll see how it goes live.
The line distribution has gotten way better after Wonho left tbh... Hyungwon and Minhyuk are fully utilized and they don't have to put so much weight on Kihyun.
The album is more mature and clearly there's a shift in their musical interest from Fatal Love onwards. It's definitely a softer album tho, I could see that there's less "bangers" here but the composition for the songs are great. All the RnB for Shownu and Hyungwon's voice <3 Changkyun sounds so adorable in Bebe.........................
Nvm, I listened to Rotate again and I love it now lol
The song is also their best charting debut song now TT wishing for their success
First of all, they all look so good and I wish we saw more of them in the video instead of random white dudes. Waiting for the stages so i could see the choreo more, i felt like we didn't see much.
Second, Changkyun being all "switching positions i like to rotate" and making Shownu sing "you make me dirty"...who is encouraging this hoe behavior? Who told you that was okay? Whom am i sending the gift basket to?
I really like Secrets so much! Hyungwon turning out some great songs, I'm so happy for him!
I appreciate that Changkyun is pretty straightforward with the horny. It's just that the horny is making him creep up my bias list and I'm not done with Hyungwon and Shownu yet, so his ass is going to have to wait his turn.
I shall send the gift basket to Shownu's parents then, in gratitude for making a man so damn fine.
Ooh I would like to chip in on that gift basket. Honestly, umma and appa Son should be exempt from taxes for their service in gifting us with such an (inter) national treasure
I picked up my copies of the album today and looked through all the concepts and all the looks we’re not gonna get to see him do and I’m upset and bereft 😫
I preordered every version of the albums except version 3, and now looking at the unboxing I'm totally regretting it because the pics look sooo good! I guess I buy that one too because I'm horny Monsta X trash now.
I was totally only going to get version 1-2, then I got to the store and saw them lined up all nice and pretty in a full set and I caved and got all four. I don’t even like v4 but I needed itttt what I have become lmao. Monstacks got me bad
The heavy bass in the background reminds me of Taemin's Sexuality. I thought the chorus happened but turns out it was the pre-chorus (?). The guitar was nice.
I love it. I LOVED the guitar and the bassline and the beat immediately, otoh I was a bit ??? at the melody at first and it still doesn’t hang together quite as well as I’d like but the more I listen to it the more I like it as a whole. Definitely going to be streaming it diligently (get those royalties, Joo!! 🐝❤️) Changkyun needs someone to sit him down and have a heart-to-heart about some of his English lyrics though, the man called himself nice and sassy lmao
Out of the b-sides, Secrets and Rotate are standouts (+ Livin’ it up), the rest are just whelming at first listen. On the whole, I feel like the album is in the same direction as Love Killa / Fatal Love, which is great, but overall a slight step down in terms of quality. Still, Fatal Love is probably going to be my favorite album they’ve ever done by the end of their career so I’m not mad at it.
They look soooooo good in the MV (esp Minhyuk and Changkyun goddamn) but I wish they’d done more with the heist concept/story. In my dreams they’d release a storyline version and a performance version but lol no. But ugh they look SOOOOOO good. I can’t wait for the music shows/ performances bc they always bring it. The choreo has so many callbacks to their other title choreos, I love it 😭
RE: Changkyun needs someone to sit him down and have a heart-to-heart about some of his English lyrics though, the man called himself nice and sassy lmao
I just checked the lyrics for Gambler and saw that his line is "hot as F" and NOT "hard as f" which I thought it was the entire time which was... difficult for me lmao.
According to the liner notes, apparently the lyrics are officially "hot as ºF" .... as in Fahrenheit ........... I don't know if that makes it worse or better
I have not watched the MV yet but I have listened to the album a couple of times at work and I have Opinions.
Gambler: Classic MX title song, very fun, I like the rock elements, it's a more grown-up version of their noisy sound I feel? Heaven: I cannot for the life of me tell you what Heaven sounds like, and idk if it's because the tonal shift from Gambler to Heaven just takes me out completely or if the song is just that forgettable... Addicted: Jooheon sounds like BM at some point and it's very ?? other than that, I like it, again very classic MX Secrets: I misheard Shownu the first time he sang "dirty little secret" and thought he said "daddy's little secret" and I was ready to yeet myself out the window lmao so there's that. otherwise, very good lol BEBE: It's cute I guess? Rotate: I guess Monsta Truck wasn't horny enough yet? parts of it remind me of Jiwoo's "Wet" on Good Girl? very fun, love it Livin' It Up: I was very excited for the Korean version and I don't know why. It's good! but I guess I'm just very used to the Japanese version
Verdict: Extremely Horny. A great successor to Fatal Love, it's a good continuation to the quieter songs at the end of that album, and in general their sound has matured and become smoother imo. Maybe not their most cohesive album, but it does a great job at showcasing how their classic MX sound has grown-up. Also, Minhyuk's vocals?????? Amazing. He sounds SO GOOD! In general the line distribution is just so much better than it used to be which is kind of a shame because to think we could have had Minhyuk and Hyungwon singing like this the entire time... 7.5/10 for now, I think it will grow on me a lot though
the MV... they're hot. Choreo looks like it will be fun on music shows. and I already know that the making of will be hilarious because of that "fight" between Minhyuk and Kihyun lol
i'm a sucker for industrial sounding club music and they managed to work that into the sound of this one so i'm biased and satisfied lol gambler was fun. one of the main things that sets them apart from their peers imo is how they don't confine their rapline line to a 8-16 bar second verse and little else and it always makes for surprises on first listen
overall, i've really enjoyed seeing the progression of MX's sound as the years have passed and how seeing how their line distribution evolved to work with everyone's individual strengths and personal development post wonho to make their title tracks lately spread out pretty evenly throughout the group
16 hours later and I'm still thinking about 1:10 in the MV when Shownu thrusts his hips in a way the other guys don't do and we won't get that in the live stages
This mini should be titled 'No Skips' because its perfect. It feels like theyve finally moved on from their usual sound and have found something slick, im shook huyngwon and minhyuk got to sing in the choruses as well!
oh gosh this made me cackle cos when i first got into mx i only cared more about the rap sections cos those were really exceptional (dramarama, shoot out) . but yeah for this song the rap verses are more on the weak and cringy side
i just love it when my kpop children who are also mj stans let that mj influence show in their music (taemin and now jooheon)
i am absolutely blown away by this track, the production value, the instrumentation, the mixing, the vocal delivery and harmonies, it's classic monsta x noise music and yet it's not noisy and not overdone at all. i could listen to this on repeat and not get tired of it (unlike most noise BG songs), one of the reasons for this is the unique structure of the song: the lack of "proper chorus" actually works in favor of the song in this case cos of the special way all the song sections blend and flow with each other. the only flaw i could identify is the rap parts are not monsta x's best. not as cringe as love killa rap parts but definitely got overshadowed by the vocals.
Jooheon really blew all expectations out of the water here cos all of his previously produced tracks (both for mx and solo) never really impressed me, but this one just shot straight to the top mx title songs in my book. possibly their best since Jealousy.
overall im just really pleased with this comeback, the song, the line distribution, the vocals, the members' improvement. im just praying for their good health and shownu's full recovery
The song is growing on me. There is no real chorus so it makes it hard to remember how it sounds, but I do think that Jooheon did an excellent job on creating a song that fits along with MX's discography. The boys look so hot in their black/white suits. I love how the line distribution is better so we can hear more Minhyuk. My fave songs from the album are Addicted and Rotate. So far my favorite album of MX as 6 members is Fatal Love
