i think it's common in south korea for young kids to "play indian", i remember seeing some commentary on that in regards to parasite. that said, with sm's massive global fanbase, they of all companies especially ought to have thought twice about this.
Ok someone pull the feather headband off that kids head. SM you always have to do something offensive huh. It sours an otherwise nice MV.
Song is pretty! I like it. But honestly would’ve sounded better with someone with a lower range, Joy’s voice gets nasally and too high at certain parts. Which I don’t get since I don’t really hear in some of her ost so maybe it’s how she’s directed. I’ll check out album later.
Revisited the original and tbh I do prefer it, it has a special charm that is missing in the new version. The singer has similar issues Joy has in her version though so it’s probably how it’s being directed
joy's visuals and voice are both so golden, i could enjoy just about anything she puts out. that said, this overall was an incredibly safe/boring choice.
Aww this is super cute I totally get the criticism of it being a little too safe, and Joy's vocals a little too nasally, but I don't mind either of those. It's a cute summer song, nostalgic and comforting, and I'm enjoying it. I'm sure I'm going to replay this a lot!
It's exactly as it was expecting, very cute and simple. I didn't expect something very innovative or intense from her tbh. This is perfect for the current season.
The MV fits her well though, it all feels very natural and comforting.
i had only seen the y2k-esque teaser pictures so i had completely different expectations of what her solo would look like (old school boa, like 'valenti')
needless to say this isn't for me at all, but i think her fans will enjoy it a lot
the title track & album are cute and sweet enough! ngl this isn't the type of music i gravitate toward at all, and i really miss that subtly sinister bite she has in red velvet lol, so i probably won't have this in regular rotation even though i adore her. wishing her success!
I remember seeing on one of those netizen comment sites someone (not a knet) saying they wanted something Sunmi-ish from Joy when her solo was announced but I really feel like this is her lane. I think this sound really suits her and it's a fun summer release. Not every female soloist has to go for the 'hard'/'powerful' type of image every time.
Ok listening to the album, Day By Day is probably my favorite. Her range here is much preferred, it’s still sweet but not as high. If Only is pretty duet, though I kind of prefer Paul’s parts. Be There For You is nice too. Basically a sweet album, I enjoyed it for what it is but Idk if it has strong replay value currently. I’ll probably replay Day By Day the most.
Does anyone have a list of the original songs & artists she covered?
The @RVsmtown official Twitter mentions all the original songs and artists, but they were posted separately along with each batch of teaser photos so you have to scroll down a bit to find them.
I'm really trying to be less of a hater these days but...I knew it was going to sound like this. The video and aesthetic are really nice but this is just too teehee for my taste. But I think this might do good in SK. They were so extra with the promo cycle though like SM didn't need to do alladat.
after hearing it would be a cover album this was exactly what I expected. All the way down to something needlessly ???? like that headdress on the little girl.
It's just weird to me seeing stuff like that used so flippantly. They were ~in style~ when I was a bb in the late 80s/early 90s but my Native grandma would've ripped it off my head.
i wish they had just given her an ~original~ song/mini instead of a cover album, lol. this song was really dragging for me and i wasn't even halfway through it. 😬
I'm a sucker for big band style songs so I really enjoyed this! The whole album sounds like the perfect fit for her voice, although I hope Seulgi covers 'Day by Day'
The mini album is rather sickly sweet, which is exactly what I expected when it was announced it was a remake album, but it's all a bit too twee for repeat listening.
"Day by Day" is my favourite thing here.
Between this and Like Water, I need a full group comeback now.

Date: 2021-05-31 09:08 pm (UTC)The mv concept is sweet, but the overall "aesthetic" of the video just makes it unpleasant.
Joy is not a bad vocalist, but I much prefer her as a part of RV than solo && I p much knew that so I'm going to pass on this album
