Why are some fans against Lee Seung-gi's relationship with Lee Da-in?

Korean heartthrob Lee Seung-gi, 34, recently confirmed that he was dating actress Lee Da-in, 28, the daughter of veteran actress Kyeon Mi-ri. But some of his fans were not happy to hear the news.

They believe that his relationship with Da-in ― whose stepfather was put behind bars for three years for manipulating stock prices ― may tarnish his "wholesome" image. In fact, Seung-gi is one of the few scandal-free stars who has been beloved by people of all generations for many years.

To express their dissatisfaction, some fans last week sent a truck to the area in northeastern Seoul, where his house is located, to tell him that he should know better. The message displayed on the vehicle read, "It is okay that you didn't know. But now you should know. They turned so many people into victims," urging him to "make a quick decision" before "ruining" his 17-year career.

On May 24, a local media outlet reported that Seung-gi and Da-in were in a relationship after growing close through their mutual hobby, golf. Both of them later said that the report was true.

"But please refrain from speculating," Seung-gi's management company, Human Made, said in a statement, presumably referring to a rumor that the couple was planning to get married.

Da-in's stepfather, who was released on parole in 2014, was accused of stock price manipulation in another case in 2016. After being sentenced to four years in prison by a district court, he was exonerated by an appellate court.

Seung-gi debuted as a singer in 2004 and found fame with the hit, "Because You're My Woman" (2004). He also starred in a number of popular TV series, such as, "Brilliant Legacy" (2009) and "Vagabond" (2019).

Da-in made her acting debut in 2014 and has been featured in series such as, "My Golden Life" (2014). She is the sister of actress Lee Yu-bi.

From what I've read on other sites, her mother is also believed to have been directly involved in the insider trading scam and only got off because she claimed to have been an honest investor. Some victims committed suicide after they lost everything in this scandal, hence the hatred. Of course Da In can't be blamed for her mother's actions but she continues to flaunt her mom and wealth which is in incredibly poor taste.

With all that said, what is the point of the truck. He's grown, its not going to sway him

well everything that i know about her and her sister is that both parents were involved, daughters directly profited from it and enjoy the wealth built on literal lives of other people who lost everything. they are also very close with parents (which is different from yeeun or tiffany who were blamed for parents' actions while having barely any contact).
idk if da in lives with parents but she spends plenty of time in their apartments (it's like 5 floors so they probably won't even to meet each other while living together). as it's pointed in another comment - she flaunts that bloody wealth plenty.

Tbh I'd be pretty disappointed if someone I liked was considering marrying her/into that family. No she almost definitely wasn't directly involved in the scams but she has no qualms about living absurdly well off of (and even actively flaunting) wealth that was gotten by the calculated ruin of thousands of others' financial lives (and lead to several suicides from that despair). At this point, she and her family are best known as poster-children for a certain kind of corrupt upper-class privilege and nepotism so I mean, who knows what she's really like as an individual but from an outside perspective, the optics are never going to look good.

Still, the grownup thing to do here would be to accept that your favorite celebrity is not the choirboy you wanted to believe he was and move the fuck on with your life but that would mean accepting that all the time and money and emotion and energy you invested in him was wasted on a false idol and some fans are just never going to do that.

her family is messy and she is Ivanka complicit... BUT Seunggi is a grown man with experience in career and personal life, I'm sure he is aware of the gossip, yet he still chose to be with her which is completely his decision at this point. I don't think this will hurt his 12 year career, he has built too much brownie points in the industry that I doubt his work will dry up all of a sudden. He's got like 5 things going on all the time, worse case scenario, he is down to just 1 show, poor guy lol.

Also, I find it hilarious that fans seriously thought Seunggi will see their truck sign from his window, have a light bulb moment, and then break up with his girlfriend because of it LOL.

Actually though, I run away from Seung-gi too though because of how he has acted on Master of the House. I think he has enough shows under his belt to show that he is kind of egotistical ass.
