me suddenly reconsidering not watching his new drama.... he suits moodier/darker photoshoots so much better than cute ones like he has a cute face but not a cute energy
The idea of him in something dark makes me go a little feral negl. I think there were glimpses of that in Sweet Home and I have some oddly specific thoughts about what kind of dark, twisted character I need to see him play in the future because he totally could and it would be very, very hot.
tbh his character in love alarm from the few episodes i watched had a dark energy imo and apparently his new drama nevertheless which is being advertised as cute and couple-y actually portrays a toxic romance if it follows the webtoon plot like hes definitely not attracted to straightforward nice roles he will be playing a serial killer soon enough lol
ia and there are more sequels than ever too. one of the reasons i watch so many kdramas is i felt for a while they were more fun and original than most western tv but i think they're starting to go down the 'safer' route of making or continuing stuff they already know is popular it's a bit sad. though saying that there seems to be endless popular webtoons to pick from so i'm sure some good tv will still come out of it.
Yeah, they are definitely going the safe route. Maybe they are also trying to target the younger viewers, too? Since I feel like most people who read webtoons are younger. Older dramas were more aimed towards the older generations, I feel like??...but that didn't stop me from watching lol. Felt like the older dramas took more time with developing relationships and stuff. These days, by like episode 4 or something the main leads are already in love and I'm like ????? Or they tell us instead of showing us development.

yeah i think there's been an increase in romance dramas aimed at a younger audience for sure but i think webtoons are pretty varied in concept like sweet home for example so even dramas not aimed at a younger audience seem to be going to webtoons for inspiration too. and i know what you mean about being told instead of shown, i can't say i've enjoyed many romance dramas in the last few years for that exact reason, everyone is obsessed with each other by ep 1 just from first sight nowadays its not my thing at all.
i still watch quite a few at the same time i won't lie lol but when i used to watch a lot of romances i now watch crime or supernatural inspired dramas instead where i think the quality hasn't fallen as much.
Yeah, I really don't like how a lot of dramas these days keep rushing the romance so while I'm watching, I'm like are you kidding? Lol. I'm def used to the old format of taking time to develop the relationship and have the main leads in love/confess like after the halfway point. Like episode 10 or something lol. Now we barely get to episode like 4 or 5 and it happens. You guys have known each other for all of 2 seconds...do not try to sell me your ~deep love~ because I'm not buying it. 😒. I want depth! I want development! Haha. Or they try to sell us depth via the first love or they met as kids and experienced some kind of tragic event together but they didn't know it was the other person blah blah blah trope.

thank GOD. I don't know if you're familiar with the Japanese manga Raise wa Tanin Ga Ii, but the male lead in that one is a total psycho and I feel like Song Kang would play a role like that perfectly.
i have zero familiarity with any japanese manga lol but from a quick google i get what you're saying and i can see it, i feel he really wants those edgy roles
ia about men in flip flops but just after i saw this photoshoot i saw kim bum's gq shoot where the fashion is like this i was suddenly very forgiving of the flip flops
