It's highly likely that YG's new girl group will be named 'Baby Monster.'
Following YG's confirmations they're preparing to launch a new girl group later this year, speculations of the group and member names are pouring online causing rising expectations and interest.
Among the most popular group names rumored, 'Baby Monster' seems to be the most likely name for the group after new trademark filings related to the name have surfaced once again.
YG previously registered Korean and English name 'Baby Monster' with Korean Intellectual Property in August last year and is currently undergoing trademark application process since March this year with expected formal registration to be processed sooner or later this year. In addition, YG has also applied for related trademarks like "BAEMON" believed to be abbreviation for the group.
In addition, during 'Treasure Map Season 2', a sticker labeled "BABY MONSTER DANCE STUDIO" was spotted on the door of a practice room inside YG's new building further solidifying the rumors.
The rumored trainees to join the new girl group are Chinese trainees Wang Syu (born 2000) and Wei Chen (stage name: Jane, 1999 liner) who appeared in YG's Chinese survival show last year and are currently trainees under YG's Chinese label "Yang Xing Culture."
Trainees Kang Seo-jin of SBS 'Kpop Star 4' (2000 liner) and other YG trainees from 2005 to 2006 line are expected to join.

Date: 2021-05-28 05:26 pm (UTC)And yeah YG is notoriously trash and I'd expect nothing more from them. They very much don't have their artists' best interests at heart so their acts will always get screwed over way too soon. I've never been a BP stan but like... they've barely had a music career.

Date: 2021-05-29 08:32 am (UTC)I'm not as worried about BP going back into the dungeon, I think financially they will be fine compared to 2ne1. BP came out in an era where they can easily make money with just social media and modeling, and KPop is more mainstream, so they have alternative opportunities. Also, they have their sunbaes to learn from so they can better prepare for the inevitability of being replaced. For 2ne1, it was the endless waiting that killed their momentum to execute a strategic plan B or C, maybe except for Dara, who went into variety and youtube early on....

Date: 2021-05-29 06:16 pm (UTC)Name is very YA type Monster High and such. Not surprised considering YGE is stuck in the 90's.

Date: 2021-05-30 01:46 pm (UTC)it will forever be a mystery of the universe to me how YGE literally treats every artist exactly the same (zero/few releases, groups going MIA, intense mismanagement, etc) yet this behavior has been tolerated/allowed to continue for years.... WHEN WILL IT END
forgive us YGE if we actually want and expect kpop groups to release music and follow the usual kpop timeline and lifespan

Date: 2021-05-30 02:31 pm (UTC)Possible unpopular opinion but I don’t see history repeating. Blackpink is way more massive and bringing in much more money than 2NE1 ever did. Plus with way more international fans, they’ll face a lot more outrage which could impact their other groups sales wise. I should clarify (final edit sorry!) what I mean: so it’s clear there are people who are YG company stans. Of course there are plenty BP-only stans since their other groups minus Big Bang’s history have nowhere as much success right now. But so many kpop fans follow multiple YG artists since they think they’re the best (clearly I don’t). So I think burning Blackpink would backfire and turn off some of those YGE stans and stop them from spending more money.
Is YG still going to be misogynistic? Oh most definitely. But 2021 is in a much different place than 2014 (or mid 2010s) kpop.
Tbh the only way I see Blackpink getting fully replaced by the new girl group is if a BP member has a major scandal like Park Bom did. Something with drugs or insulting Korea has to be involved 🤷♀️Or the girls ‘demand too much’ as they know their worth, which is the vibe Gfriend gives off with their disbanding. Otherwise I see this being like Twice & Itzy, coexisting with one older group and one newer group.

Date: 2021-05-31 05:38 pm (UTC)My major concern is whether YG can handle two girl groups at once. Or boy groups for that matter. Admittedly, I don't follow boy groups as much, but Big Bang was everywhere, they had comebacks constantly. Winner, Ikon, and Treasure should be in constant rotation with solos sprinkled in, but that isn't what I've observed.
Black Pink hardly gets any comebacks, how is YG going to handle having two girls groups? Especially if Teddy is the only producer. He produces for Somi as well and we hardly ever see her (I mean we all knew leaving JYP for YG was a bad move on her part, but this is just further proof that YG doesn't know how to manage). JYP used to struggle with management (during the Wonder Girls/Miss A era, but they figured it out to a degree (#justice for Got7). SM seems pretty good about its boy groups, not sure about the girls (Oh!GG never has comebacks, but that's to be expected, SM killed f(x) but that was sort of scandal related (I'm oversimplifying and don't want to dive into it), RV was doing well before Irene's scandal, and it's a little early to say with Aespa). None of the big companies are any good about managing solo artists (unless they are members of popular groups), but that is a bit of a different game. However, it's not an excuse, if you can't manage solo artist well, don't do it.
