all these gg's suddenly doing bg songs whats happening
i like it i guess, sihyeons vocals save it from being unlistenable and i like watching them perform. the actual 'you know that i come first' is the worst part of the song and this is easily their worst title ever but it's okay i'll probably still listen to it occasionally, i've listened to worst bg songs sooo.
oh and i did like the little cgi special effects in the mv
don't ask don't tell from the album i actually like, it's cute! but that phrase does unfortunately remind me of the military policy which taints it a bit
love the outfits (all of them!! but of course especially the all white lol i'm so predictable), their hair and the choreo looks cool too! also the mv, like the cgi in it and loved the first few scenes especially, but i wish it had a little bit more of a storyline
i like the song alright, but not enough to relisten i think? if a boy group would've released this i don't think i would like it at all lmao
I forgot about Everglow’s cb was today lol. I knew it was coming but when I saw the post I was surprised lol idk I thought it was later.
The MV left a stronger impression than the song. They’ve come a long way from their budget MV days with their debut (dun dun is the last MV that looked a little rough imo). It looks really good. The song is ok, the parts that let the vocalist shine are nice but the chorus isn’t the most interesting and it does feel like it’s missing something.
Oh and I have a theory on why girl groups are doing noisier boy group type songs besides being trendy. I think these companies want international fans to buy albums like they do for boy groups. This is the type of music that grabs these types of fans attention, and they hope it’ll crossover into sales. Music that is brighter or more subtle doesn’t catch these fans as much and they’re looking to branch out in sales, so they’re gravitating to these boy group type songs. (I’m excluding the Big 4 since they’ll make their money regardless, I’m moreso talking about groups who don’t have a lot of success in Korea and need support wherever they can).
after la di da this is a disgrace. the mv is cool tho, i'm glad they have budget now.
i'd like woodz to write a single for them in the future, i feel like his soulful emo sound fits them more than this tryhard mess and it would be an interesting collab.
I don't mind girls having boybands songs, in the country, I actually enjoy...
But not this..... It's too noisy and I don't enjoy the MV tbat much. I think the only comeback I enjoyed from them was ladida because it gave me all the 80's feelings ahahah
so onda only got 3 lines again and minimal screen time? ugh
otherwise i quite liked it, not their best but it was alright
the MV is too flashy for me, it made me really dizzy. but they look gorgeous and the choreography seems intense so i'm looking forward to their live stages
i don't know how accurate it is considering the song was just released but one line distribution video i watched makes it look like all the girls get the same amount of lines basically except for sihyeon and mia who basically sing the entirety of it
that shaky cam in several parts is a choice! but yes this is most definitely a bg song.
so i watched the showcase (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzcrpaEidXs) and it's basically mia and sihyeon carrying the entire song, everyone else gets about 20 seconds each at most (except for onda, who probably got about 6 seconds total)?
I really was expecting a sort of 1st gen throwback and there are the tiniest bits of old school smp sound, but I feel tricked lol I really like the styling and the MV was really interesting to watch, I enjoyed all the effects and the choreo looks p cool, bit I'll wait for a dance practice/perf version
It's been a min since I've checked for Everglow, but there seemed to be a lot of Mia, Aisha, and Sihyeon, I feel like I didn't see a lot of the other 2 members
Also IA that ggs have been kinda leaning into bg sounds/song structure recently, it's very interesting!!
not a fan of boygroups having these concepts but this is really good imo
only downside is that everglow isn't vocally as strong as the producers think cause sihyeon's parts are kinda grating to me and where the hell was onda? i mean her last dance scene was it but damn it!!! la di da was SO good and this is a downgrade. its a gymjam tho
Overall IA. I think it’s a good thing the MV catches ones attention since without it idk if the song really does the job by itself. Like to me a song that I love right off the bat, I can hear it in my head when it finishes since it really left an impression. I honestly struggling to hear it mentally after replaying it at least twice.
if 4th gen bgs can put out the same bland af formula and be successful, i'm here for ggs to get some of that recognition.
i know i shouldn't pit ggs against each other but i can't help but feel like i would enjoy aespa a lot more if they gave me the attitude and energy everglow exudes. even if the song is kinda meh, i feel like i'd enjoy all of first's live performances so much.
OP I think you hit the nail on the head with the description lol. I don’t straight up dislike it but it’s not doing anything for me either. IA tho the video is very cool and I love all the different sets (its esp cool to watch after the kpop evolution episode about making of MVs and see the different techniques applied here). The space scene was esp cool but the camera was making me dizzy like someone else said haha.
la di da really was an outlier when it comes to everglow's singles and clearly got people thinking they were going to change their sound lol. they've been doing loud brash, boy group adjacent titles since they debuted a few years back (with more melodic b-sides) and this is just another entry into their catalog that fits their original concept.
aesthetically i would say the styling in this MV might be my favorite for them, the monochromatic outfits made everything pop a lot more outfit wise. the higher budget camera work made the choreo pop more too. i just wish (like i always do) that their rapline got more of a chance to shine because the bits and pieces of e:u and aisha we get are always super satisfying
I definitely think any group doing retro concepts are outliers and I enjoy them for what they are! But I always expect some disappointment from casual fans for the following concept since I know some fans really into the retro sound aren’t going to be happy when they do their original sound or try something different. Like I’m wondering how Twice and Rocket Punch’s next comebacks will be perceived since I know they won’t be retro.
For such a dramatic (?) song I’m actually kind of bored? Definitely underwhelming as a song even though the mv is very visually appealing. The stages are probably going to be great though, so I’ll hold off any further criticism until then since some songs are better when watched as a performance.
First Everglow song I didn't instantly LOVE other than bonbon but I watched it 3x in a row so clearly it was doing something. The costumes are amazing. Every last one. I looooove the black and red ones. Onda really stood out to me. She looks amazing and she was really selling the intro. Sihyeon is a goddess. Kinda disappointed my girls Aisha didn't make much of an impact. Was EU even there????
Honestly I would love to see NCT cover this lol I could see Taeyong so clearly doing the moves in the final chorus where Mia is center idk but he immediately came to mind when I saw it the frist time.
I typically hate when people get bangs because i think its a visual downgrade for most people but EU loooks soooooooooo goood with bangs. its blowing my mind.
Eh. I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would, but a noise song was always going to be disappointing.
Idk, I wish more girl groups could get intricate choreo without the need for a reject boy group song. Or at the very least do it like Weki Meki did with Cool — it was still ~feminine while matching the energy.
loona's butterfly had very intricate choreo despite the song being very feminine. and oh my girl's choreo can be pretty intense, but people don't notice it because their songs tend to be very bright and girly. i guess in general people automatically assume that if it's something that comes from or sounds like a boy group, they'd have better choreo. :/
It's not my favourite title track of theirs for sure but I didn't dislike it as much as the comments led me to believe I might. I like the drop and prechorus, the Aisha/EU rap is great, and I love the sets and outfits. The choreo looks great as usual. It definitely has replay value for me.
