Flashback Friday
2021-05-07 02:22 pmEvery week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 1st week in May, 2010. Top tier songs and idols this week!
#3 Secret “Magic”
This was their follow up to their debut song, and was the lead single of their first mini album. It would be their big breakout hit. It is still one of their biggest selling songs. I still also get this confused with their next single, “Madonna” lol. It’s been a while, so let’s check out the music video again.
#2 Lee Hyori “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” was the lead single for her “H-Logic” album. Like, this isn’t my favorite song from her, but she’s just so damn cool. SO COOL. Here’s her performance of the song on Sketchbook. Her Family Outing co-star Daesung introduces her. He featured on a song on the album and they performed it on the show too. I like this stage because it’s not a music show stage and the audience is more responsive lol.
#1 Rain “Love Song”
His first release and album in two years, this was one of the singles from the album “Back To The Basic”. Both the album and the song would peak at the top spot. Let’s check out the MV staring Han Ye Seul. I’ve always really liked this song. He would go on to tour with this album, and it would be his last release before enlisting the next year.
Honorable Mentions
#4 Girls’ Generation “Run Devil Run”
This was the lead single from the album of the same name. It was a repackage of their previous release, “Oh!”, with a darker concept. Both the album and the song would reach number one. The repackage would end up being the 4th best selling album of 2010. The original music video has been posted before, so now let’s see the story version MV.
#6 After School “Bang!”
The group’s first release with new member Lizzy. They would later use this song as their Japanese debut. The song was a huge hit for them, and would peak at #2 on the charts. They always went all out for their concepts, and this one featured drums. Apparently Kahi really loved the movie Drumline lol. Here’s the group’s performance with a marching band at KBS Gayo.

Date: 2021-05-07 10:38 pm (UTC)CCBB was my first Hyori experience and it was SO GREAT....even after all the varied plagerism things came to light LOL
'Magic' is fine but Madonna is definitely the better version of this theme/riff.
And while I didn't experience Bang or RDR in real time both are very special.

Date: 2021-05-08 02:39 pm (UTC)the stage for bang is so OTT I love it lol. And are they actually singing live and doing choreo? I feel like you never see that anymore.

Date: 2021-05-08 02:43 pm (UTC)I remember when Idols used to get hate for lipsyncing and now they all do it. Why even bother training these kids for years when they don't even sing live on stage.

Date: 2021-05-17 03:53 am (UTC)Bang was such an iconic concept. After School should have been so much more successful than they actually were.
