Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week we are going back to the 2nd week of April, 2012.

#3 Nell “The Day Before”

This was the group’s first release in four years because of a hiatus due to the members’ enlistments. “The Day Before” was the lead single from the album “Slip Away”. The album would hit the top spot on the charts, and the song would peak at #3. It is also the band’s best selling song. The MV stars actors Song Jae Rim & Lee Min Ki.

#2 4Minute “Volume Up”
This is the lead single from the EP of the same name. It was pretty successful for the group, the EP would peak at #1 and the song at #2. It is also one of their bigger selling songs. I can’t remember if I liked this song, I think I did. I remember really liking the styling a lot. Let’s watch their comeback at Music Core.

#1 Busker Busker “Cherry Blossom Ending”

The band has been on an hiatus since 2013, but this song surely has them set for life lol. Maybe not totally for life, but for sure they are getting a big check every year. Mnet revealed that this was the most streamed and downloaded song from 2006-2015. And still charting every year when the cherry blossoms bloom.

Honorable Mentions

#5 Sistar “Alone”

One of their most successful songs, one of their biggest sellers. The song and album would peak in the top ten, at number one and number three, respectively. And just so damn popular. That leg dance was parodied so much. Let’s check out a stage from an M Countdown overseas show in Taiwan.

#6 Yangpa, Davichi & Hanna “Love Is All The Same”
This was one of the singles from Yangpa’s album “Together”. The song features Haeri from Davichi and Han Na-Yeon (Hanna)) from F-ve Dolls. I don’t remember this release at all. Let’s check out the MV. The music video stars actors Lee Yowon and Baek Sunghyun.

I remember my officemate found me listening to this song by NELL a few yrs ago and he was so surprised to find someone who knows the band LOL kpop is big here in our country but people mostly only know about the big groups.

Alone is a really good song and I love how they made a choreo that goes perfectly with it.

Volume Up. Oh wow. Its been almost a decade but if they release this song this year, I think it will still do well.

Busker Busker, another product of SuperStar K. I wonder what they're all doing now.

Busker Busker's vocalist Jang Beom June is still churning out chart toppers as a soloist.

i've never gotten around to listening to more of their discography for some reason, but 4minute's crazy was one of the first kpop songs i heard, and sometime after i discovered volume up, and i love it so much. crazy and hate are more well remembered it seems but volume up is such a banger, it's so early 2010s which makes it really nostalgic, and the chorus is perfect

The day before is one of my all time favorite songs. It makes me cry from time to time even all of these yeaes later. I think that Nell is just able to convey really sad topics in a very beautiful way.

Alone and Volume Up!!! I remember they came back around the same time, and I much preferred Volume Up. The vampire concept was interesting too, but Hyuna was so not there for it and Jihyun's weak bridge. I remembered feeling meh about Alone at that time because it was so similar to other Sistar songs, but now I've recognised what an amazing song it was

Haha I don’t know the song, but mostly because the amount of male artists I listen to is quite limited. Maybe I’ll listen to it one day lol

Lol thanks for understanding! I’m more likely to come across male artists randomly on playlists or from convincing recommendation vs outright seeking their music (it’s only the select few I’m like I gotta listen to their new release now — but it’s not super common) so I’ll probably hear it eventually. It happens all the time where I found a song by a man or men and I’m like ‘oooh I like this’ and then discover it came out years ago lol.

Volume up had some of 4minute’s best stages and outfits. I love that era.

Volume Up is one of my favorite 4minute songs!! Their discography varies from yessss to meh to me, but Volume Up was a definite yessss

Seriously listen to this prechorus and chorus!!! I’ll take this over an instrumental chorus or drop chorus any day.

I’m thankful for Alone really solidifying Sistar as a top girl group but I really don’t care for it. They’ve had better songs 🤷

I still don't understand why the Busker Busker song is so popular. I dislike it. I guess I don't have the same tastes as Koreans.
