ugh they were taking so long to say anything that i seriously thought they were just going to wait for it to ~blow over~.

i'm surprised it wasn't just the usual 2 paragraph, copy/pasted "lol it's not true 🤷🏻‍♀️" statement. i know the bar is in the 7th circle of hell for these, but if they're actually trying to speak with these people, that's more than i expected them to do. i really hope pledis is taking this seriously.

i still feel 😐😐😐 about it but i guess we'll see what happens? 😶

tbh i know so little about svt i don't even know which one is mingyu, but thank the gods they translated this statement themselves and didn't let fans who don't speak a word of korean do it themselves. stray kids fans "translating" jype statements and choosing the most convenient translation is a whole mess

Apparently there was a mistranslation issue on mingyu that went viral with over 20,000 likes on Twitter when the some of the newer allegations came out so I am wondering if that's why we got an eng statement for their response

I'd say it makes sense. I don't understand why jype doesn't translate considering the amount of English speaking idols they have and how they usually provide subs.

i'm glad pledis are taking this seriously and i really hope what they're claiming is the truth but i'm not going to put my blind trust in this statement for now and shall wait for any future rebuttals before making my final judgement on the matter. even if the ableism allegations turn out to be false, this is far from the end of it and i'm glad they've acknowledged that. first and foremost i feel for the victim and their family whose trauma has been aired out without their consent.

this situation has been weighing heavily on my mind these past couple days. i'm too tired right now to lay out my thoughts in detail but if anyone frequents the seventeen subreddit, they might've seen me from time to time. i will probably come back later and write a more coherent comment.

the last 3 days have been a lot.

that is a surprisingly long and thorough statement. hopefully they really are reaching out to as many people as they can and that we'll have the full story soon. this entire situation has been a disaster.

I feel conflicted. Cynical part of me is thinking, this took a long time to write cause they had to hire a good lawyer to write a good statement that would make everyone thinks 'that seems fair' and it's entirely working because ppl are now going back onto their words.

I can't be partial because I think proving you've been bullied is just.. hard? like it's just words against words and in the end it's not about the truth, it's about who can come up with the best statement and the person who will be the most articulate... which often happens to be the person who has the best lawyers.

I'm also curious about how it works internally for all those scandals, like do the idols accused tell their company they're innocent? or if they're indeed guilty, do they tell the truth? It's been so weird to see how far some of these companies to cover up for one single member when they could just be kicked out and it would probably save them lots of effort? lol idk just rambling

yeah once this all reaches some sort of a conclusion we as fans basically have to determine how much we believe the artist/company statements because we don't see what goes on behind the scenes, we don't know how much money these people are being offered, we don't know how much they've been harassed by fans and just want everything to end, etc.

it is nice to see companies defending their artist when we've seen a lot of instances where companies have just canceled contracts or put members in the dungeon at the first sign of trouble, but i agree that at some point (w certain cases) the trouble is not worth it, especially when someone is pretty clearly in the wrong.

It's a well worded statement, I'll give them that.

This entire scandal has been bringing up some deep seated trauma and I'm on the precipice of disassociating. K-Pop was a lot easier when I strayed from news articles, but music doesn't exist in a vacuum.

I am so sorry. I use kpop for escapism and it's always hard when reality forces its way back in. I hope you take care of yourself and remind yourself to take a break before it becomes too much <3

This is the best scandal-related statement I've seen in a long time, tbh. While i hope they are telling the truth, ill wait until later developments to pass judgement.

Not really a comment on this specific situation, which I will not claim to know the details of.

BUT.

I really wish bad things on false accusers. Not just because of the damage it does to those falsely accused, but because they are ruining so much for actual victims of bullying (or other things too lbr) trying to speak up. Now, every. fucking. time. we have to go through this song and dance of they said x but those others said y, what's the truth? It wastes everyone's time and ultimately silences victims.

the statement seems well-worded and doesn't shirk blame. hopefully the victims get some form of closure through this and they shouldn't go through another cycle of hurt.

to add, I hope the translation is legit and takes the nuances of language. because the Soojin apology although felt alright in English, it seemed in Korean the nuance was much more heck care and "I can't remember hurting you" vibe

i am wondering what this investigation into what happened looks like. is it done by the company itself or by an independent party? when does a company decide that they know the full story or not?

The statement may be wordy but other than debunking the autistic classmate story, it still feels like it's still unsolved. it's good that they are going to suspend his activities while the investigation is going on. But I really don't know how this is going to go for him in the long run.

With all these bullying issues, i hope that it's not going to be limited to companies doing background checks and witch hunts, but also for there to be stronger enforcements of laws and policies against this in schools because this is clearly not an isolated case.
