Doh Kyung-soo, who is better known by his stage name D.O. of K-pop band EXO, has been cast in two forthcoming films less than a month after being discharged from his mandatory military service in January.
The singer-actor will play the lead role in the Korean remake of the Taiwanese fantasy romance film "Secret" (2008).
"Doh will be featured as the male lead while the female lead will be decided through open auditions. Shooting will begin in the second half of 2021," the production company Hive Media Corp said in a statement, Monday.
"Secret" is a time-travel romance flick in which a piano prodigy Yie Xianglun (Jay Chou) meets and falls in love with a mysterious girl named Lu Xiaoyu (Gwei Lun-mei), while playing the piano in an old practice room. It drew more than 100,000 moviegoers in Korea, which was a first for a Taiwanese film.
Director Seo Yoo-min, who wrote screenplays for films such as "April Snow" (2005), "Happiness" (2007) and "You Call It Passion" (2015) and directed the upcoming film tentatively titled "Memories of Tomorrow," is set to helm the remake.
Prior to filming "Secret," Doh will play the lead role in director Kim Yong-hwa's sci-fi blockbuster, tentatively titled "The Moon." Doh previously starred in Kim's "Along With the Gods" Part 1 and 2 as private soldier Won Dong-yeon.
"The Moon" will tell the story of a man left alone in space by accident and another man on Earth who tries to bring him home safely.
Doh will play the isolated character on the moon while Seol Kyung-gu will play a man on Earth who embarks on a rescue mission to save him. Actress Kim Hee-ae, who left a strong impression on viewers through her roles in the drama series "The World of The Married" (2020) and queer romance film "Moonlit Winter" (2019), will star as the general director of NASA. "The Moon" will begin filming in the first half of this year.
The singer-actor debuted with EXO in 2012 and quickly rose to stardom. He began acting with a small role in the TV drama "It's Okay, That's Love" in 2014, and has since starred in TV series like "100 Days My Prince" (2018) and films including "My Annoying Brother" (2016) and "Swing Kids" (2018).

Date: 2021-02-23 07:23 am (UTC)the main lead in secret is what i would describe as something like a 2nd male lead in your kdrama or shoujo manga lol, not necessarily the 'coolest' or most popular guy, just a tiny bit above average perhaps but that guy sitting quietly at the back of the class doing his own things that a few girls or too definitely had a crush on but have his own 'sentimentals~' not the greatest comparison but think like...boys over flower 2nd lead being played by D.O , it's just not quite the right image lol
jay chou didn't really sell the role because he was excellent at acting or anything but more because the score of the movie was mostly composed by him as well as being a little intertwined in his body of works AND he could believably play all those piano solos in the movie. Now finding an equivalent is probably not possible (and unnecessary because you could get away with nice camera cuts i guess) , his role in the movie was very personal (and honestly with a nice sprinkle of self-insert haha) so to replicate that would be high order in any case but...D.O in particular is imo...very very far from the goalpost lol
