Hakuna Matata! Ain't no spending craze for Buddies anymore!
As Source Music relocated in their new offices and the impossibility to store them, gifts for GFriend will now have to be limited to:

  • Handwritten letters (in a standard envelope) and donation certificates

  • Official schedule meals (at a concert, a fan-meeting or a music show)

  • Official schedule wreaths

I wonder how many of these gifts they actually keep and what happens to the other stuff. Do they throw them away? Re-gift them to staff members? Sell them on ebay?

I'm assuming either the company keeps and gives them out to employees and/or the girls can give the gifts to family/friends. At least I hope so. No idea. Someone needs to do an AMA (looking at you GOT7 members) about these type of questions.

I'm sure they have kept some of the more expensive stuff but I bet they receive things like ipads and they don't need multiple.

it depends on the company. shady companies will choose to keep what's worth. (T*coughs*S is one example of keeping useful/beneficial gifts)

if I'm not wrong bigger companies don't accept gifts and they rightly shouldn't. it brings unwanted "ownership" of idols from fans when said gifts are displayed.

I wouldn't spend 1 cent buying a celebrity a gift.

Same, I’ll never understand the logic behind it

My first thought was a Jisoo China bar buying Jisoo a ton of dior products.... when jisoo is literally a dior ambassador.

I have never understood the logic behind it and I never will, especially when it's a popular group as well. Why splurge on a gift that the idol can probably buy for themselves or get for free from the brand itself? I swear, too many fans seem to have money to waste.

I could see it if it's something random they really like but not like more than five bucks. Or if they live in another country than me (like kpop stars) maybe some candy or sweets from my own country.

Basically, I wouldn't spend more on them than I would my own overseas friends and pen pals, lmao.

Especially successful ones like...they’re already making more money than I’ll ever see in my lifetime, why am I gonna spend a shit ton of my relatively small amount of money when they can buy it themselves like they’re paying for a McDonald’s meal?

Nope... they make much more than me. Whatever I can buy, they can buy for themselves.

All companies should do this. Fans should spend their money on donating to charities instead of buying idols the 5293502th makeup, shoes, macbook, iphone or whatever.

speaking of fan gifts. I remember Wonder Girls when they came to Houston with 2PM. and my delusional self handmade all members of both groups chocolates. I'm 99% sure they were tossed in the trash. That was the first and last time I ever did a fan gift of any sort.

Does donation certificates mean a note that money was donated on their behalf somewhere? Or money donated to the idol?

i'm guessing it's the first. a lot of fans will buy stars in idols names or make donations (large or small) to nonprofits so i'm hoping it's for things like that!

donations in the name of the idols are always a good idea. the amount of money would then be useful and good promo. food sent also benefits the other people who work with the artistes, so it's a good way too. while letters are nice, it also brings other issues like crazed declarations and difficulty in filtering such letters though.
