On January 10, Dispatch reported that all seven members of GOT7 will be leaving JYP Entertainment.
According to Dispatch, the 35th Golden Disc Awards will be GOT7’s last activity as a group. An industry source stated, “The GOT7 members are very close. They agreed on staying together, but they disagreed on the choice of their agency. After multiple discussions with the company, they decided to part ways.”
As previously reported by other outlets, Dispatch explained that Jinyounghad finished his final discussions to sign with the actor agency BH Entertainment, while Yugyeom held his final meetings with the higher-ups at AOMG. Previously, JYP Entertainment stated that they were discussing various possibilities regarding GOT7’s contracts.
Youngjae was reportedly scouted by Sublime Artist Agency, which houses Song Kang Ho, Rain, EXID’s Hani, and more. JBhas reportedly received offers from a famous hip hop label as well as a global music label and is planning to find a place that will support him as a solo artist.
Dispatch states that Jackson will continue his global activities through his own label Team Wang, and he will carry out his activities in Korea through a separate agency. BamBam will reportedly also balance his activities in Thailand and Korea. For his activities in Korea, he will receive the help of a content production agency, and he is reportedly in talks to sign a contract with with MakeUs Entertainment.
According to Dispatch, Mark will return to his hometown of Los Angeles, United States to spend time with his family, after which he will open a YouTube channel. He is considering working on solo music in the United States.
An acquaintance close to GOT7 shared with Dispatch, “The members care a lot about GOT7. Though they will each promote separately, they agreed to make time when GOT7 reunites.”
In response to the report, a source from JYP Entertainment stated, “We can not confirm which [agencies] each member is in contact with. We will inform you once our position regarding GOT7’s contract renewal is ready.”

Date: 2021-01-10 07:28 am (UTC)Now that’s it’s pretty much official, I’m going to get nostalgic (and a tiny bit name-droppy lol)
Between 2013 and early 2015, I was working down the block from the old Chungdam JYP building (this was also when I lived right across from the old Starship building so naturally my dumb ass was almost completely checked out of kpop at the time lol). When I finished work and walked to the bus stop, there was a handful of times when I would cross paths with a short, ripped young guy with big, piercing eyes (usually wearing a wifebeater and basketball shorts) rolling by on a skateboard and I figured he was an idol or trainee. One day I saw him for like the fourth or fifth time and I have no idea what possessed me, I don’t normally yell at strangers, but suddenly I like yelled at him, “Hey, are you an idol?” The guy brakes and yells back that he’s a member of the JYP boy idol rookie group Got7 and his name is Jecksseun, they’re doing their best, please look out for and support them. I wasn't sure what to do so I gave him a thumbs up and yelled that I would and he like 90-degree bowed before he skated off. I checked out Got7 and they were terrrrrible but pretty soon Jackson was crushing it all over variety shows and I felt unreasonably proud of him. I kept up with them for the hell of it (and their music eventually got better lol) and it got me to listen to more kpop again and give gen 3 a chance, so I guess I have him/them to thank for that. It’s a trip to think back to that rookie kid in basketball shorts and how far he’s come (fronting Cartier and getting richer than god off of china money)
Aw, this is making me sentimental lol. They were never my top group but in my long career as a kpop fan/observer, Got7 has ended up being the first bg I followed from more or less beginning to end. I hope they had enough fun, made enough money, are proud of what they’ve achieved and hopeful about where they’re going next. All the best to them.
(Buuuut if Yugy and JB could still do Jus2 (or some version of it) that'd be aces. I’d like some JJP too but Jinyoung’s going to be busy)

Date: 2021-01-10 08:06 am (UTC)I'm glad I got to to see them live (tho never close like in a hi-touch etc but oh well). I'm just super interested in seeing what their future activities will look like and if they'll find more success as individuals.
Also, this a very Jinyoung thing to do (hopefully his acting career will flourish now, tho I hope he doesn't abandon singing/dancing completely as I can see him focusing more on acting, idk)

Date: 2021-01-10 08:25 am (UTC)it feels like yesterday when just right was released and now they're most likely disbanding... it feels weird and like the end of an era, they were one of the groups that made kpop grow so much internationally.
i wish them all the best and i'll be looking forward to jinyoung's acting career.

Date: 2021-01-10 09:26 am (UTC)I have a question un related to the non-renewal if someone who follows got7 can help me:
I haven't checked the group in a while but I was wondering if JB ever changed his attitude or if he's still a raging "no homo" type of guy? I have no hope for Jackson to change since he's a complete CCP sellout and wear dreads, but I figured maybe with time/maturity, JB grew out of his toxic masculine mentality?

Date: 2021-01-10 10:57 am (UTC)He did and honestly some (some! not all, please i dont want ppl coming at me calling me oppapologists) of it was so blown out of proportion it was ridiculous. Signed by a queer person.
He matured a lot in general and was seen in a gay club last year too, so I'm pretty sure he's good now.

Date: 2021-01-10 11:00 am (UTC)It was a great ride. Im only sad that I couldn't afford to see them when they came to Europe (twice!). But I hope they're happy with their future careers, best of luck. They deserve success.

Date: 2021-01-10 11:31 am (UTC)I'm glad that these guys get to pursue more what they want to do now, but I'm so sick of hearing their fans say how "mistreated" they were. All kpop groups are mismanaged in some way, but they still managed to be successful. They still got comebacks and solo promotions and sub-units. I agree that JYPE could have done better, but so could have the members. They didn't like their early cute concepts that were getting them attention, so they dropped it. JYPE let them do that, but then TWICE blew up, so the majority of their resources went their and GOT7 had to largely float themselves. JYPE need to get better at pushing multiple groups and members at once, but as someone who's been a fan of groups who were treated much worse, I struggle to find sympathy for them. None of them are struggling to get another agency to sign them, and they all made $$$$$$$$$. They're not like Day6 or Baek Ah Yeon or 15&. idk.
Also, I'm sick of reading the 'X company is better cause they retain their artists.' 'JYPE isn't so good after all.' Like, I thought that we had established that all the companies suck in their own way, but I guess their are new fans every day.

Date: 2021-01-10 11:55 am (UTC)i'm not gonna lie, what with jinyoung moving to an acting agency, i'm gonna miss his singing and performing soooo much. especially his voice. it's gonna be weird to see them separate from each other for a while. idk how likely it is that they're ever gonna perform together again. yes i'm a pessimist but just thinking about the logistics of getting 7 people from all over the world together so they can record an album, much less perform together. seems like a pipe dream to me right now. sad they never got to perform at rajamangala stadium either. they were looking forward to that soo much.
i'm still curious about jb. he doesn't seem like the type to be letting his contract run out without having secured something else. i wonder which agency he's going to join. whatever he does, i'm looking forward to it! bias or not, i think i'm personally most looking forward to his activities from now on.
anyways, good luck to all of them! i hope all the ahgases on here are doing well. i, for one, am not. lmao anyways thanks for all the got7 posts always. let's hope that in the future, we can go back to discussing them as a group again one day!

Also, I have had to catch myself and remember that, despite Wonderful-based nostalgia painting JYP as a fatherly figure, he is just a businessman and has made both good & bad choices with his groups. Truthfully I never followed Got7 but it seems as though they've had some issue with JYP even minorly so it's sweet that the 7 of them are leaving together and want to do something in the future. Fingers crossed for Got7 fans that it happens!

Date: 2021-01-10 02:57 pm (UTC)like JYP does well with their groups, but they barely manage solo activities and have no acting division either as far as I know.

Date: 2021-01-10 03:14 pm (UTC)looking forward to Yugyeom having better music backing, and perhaps releasing more music. can also picture him collaborating with other artistes in AOMG even if he doesn't release much. for JB, I wonder if he'll have freedom that he wants. Youngjae's agency will be interesting, because it sounds like he'll juggle acting and singing?
whatever makes them happy, I'll be happy. I'll still be rooting for them and anticipating their random updates as friends

Date: 2021-01-10 03:18 pm (UTC)Damn Jinyoung wasn't beating around the bush lol
RE: here's a lil compilation of them voicing their "frustrations"
Date: 2021-01-10 03:55 pm (UTC)Speaking of which, isn’t Itzy also under Division 2? Because they’re treated a whole lot better in comparison 😬 I wonder because they’re new and have local success in Korea? It makes me wonder if Itzy doesn’t become huge will they be treated the same in a few years? But yea GOT7 being treated like chopped liver is pretty bizarre
