She is giving us VH1 circa 2008 when they used to play all the alternative-indie pop girls and Adele when she was on the come up. Yerin also pretty much just said these song titles are vibes because if you wait to hear the title in the song it’s no true happening for most of them.
I really liked her last album such a great album), and this one is leagues better musically imo. It’s more varied sonically but still insanely cohesive. A lot of sounds I just want her to continue exploring after this. PLUS she decides she wants to be a singer again and gave us vocals various times. I pretty much stan, and I’m happy she does The music she wants but God do I miss when she used to be more adventurous with her singing. She was about as close to an authentic R&B singer K Pop was going to get sans that one fellow from EXO. She brings that back several times on this album. You can also hear that Amy influence in her singing a lot more. Like she always sites her and it can be present, but child on Ms. Delicate she was singing as if Amy Winehouse was in her spirit.
Immediate faves: I am Not your Ocean Anymore Ms. Delicate (the switch in the BEAT) Loveless Interlude HOMESWEETHOME (I need her on a Kaytranada beat like yesterday). 0415
It’s a good album. REALLY GOOD. One of my favorites of 2020. It sounds good and does a lot more musically than her first one. She definitely experimented quite a bit. Like we not getting major uptempos but honestly with how she has gone some of what happened musically was surprising. I just wish she would explore her voice again. When she does the music just gets that extra kick (the end of I am Not Your Ocean and Loveless). You go hard into the school of Brandy vocal production.
I liked the mv, a vampire concept but it's not overtly 'in your face' vampire typical aesthetic.
I just listened to the album once. It feels kind of more lyrical-driven compared to her previous one, which felt more melody-driven to me (idk if I'm making sense haha)? I can definitely hear the 90s influence she talked about in a lot of the instrumentation for most of the songs. For example, "I'm not your ocean anymore" wouldn't be out of place in a 90s ballad playlist. It seems she really enjoyed playing around with different instruments and beats this time around and it really paid off imo.
A lot of the lyrics in the first half of the album really hit close to home...dammit Yerin, it's too early for me to feel sorry for myself! xD I can really see myself having this album on loop through the next days and picking my fav songs.
I wonder if she'll release a full video for "Hate you"? It seems to me the most radio friendly song on the album and I think it's really catchy. I love how I can really feel her contempt towards whoever she wrote this song about. "I'll be your family!" is such a cute song.
I haven't listened to the entire album yet, but so far my favourites are "You’re so lonely now, so you need me back by your side again", "Ms. Delicate", "Interlude" and "0415". But it's seems like a pretty good and consistence album.
Her (& her team's) conceptualization skills are next level, I love that she's bringing something new into the kpop scene. And not just the MV but the full album video with the lyrics on screen and everything, everything's very neat (in both senses of the word).
Her English speaking voice is pleasant to listen to too so the spoken parts work as well.
Come THROUGH BUDGET! I love the concept of this MV because dark aesthetic vampires is just a fun thing to see from a SK artist and I really dig this style of music. The electronic sound she went for is very much a thumbs up from me.
I haven’t listened to the full album but I need to lay in the dark of my room and just go for it so I’ll be back with my faves later lol.
Okay I listened to the album and I think my faves from it outside of the title are HOMESWEETHOME, Ms. Delicate, I am not your ocean anymore, you’re so lonely now, and I’m in love. The album gives me 80/90s coming of age movie and I love the dreamy electronic elements. She tried a lot of new things I feel like and I’m surprised she gave a full English album but I’m very much into it. I need to make sure I keep an eye out if this goes on vinyl because I need to hear this on a record player.
Hard to give a fave because the whole album sounds incredible, love the electro rnb style she went for. Loved the mv too! Ok but JUS2/Yerin Baek collab when??
