Yea I have mixed feelings. She can definitely sing (vocal specialists probably have a better judgement on her technique) but her vocal tone/color isn’t my favorite right now compared to previous SM main vocalists. It’s a little whiny.

But she’s also still young, she could change or improve as she matures.

She sings like a Disney princess. Like I’m betting by the end of the year (aka in a month), she is going to be singing Part of Your World. Her tone is very...it’s not uniformly pretty, but not in a bad way. Like some singers have tones that are just conventionally pretty (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Sunye, Yuji). NingNing’s voice reminds me of Bada, very bright and childlike and twangy. Just really interesting. I want to hear what she is capable of.

As for the teaser: I don’t like it. Mostly because lip syncing convincingly is not a skill idol’s have mastered. Also I hate that specific kind of mic. And they should have had her neopet girl singing a lower harmony. A lot of shoulda coulda woulda, but oh well.

Also that song is so amazingly generic that it is dull. It relies heavily on NingNing who while Good isn’t an Idina Mendel who has an edge in her performance of similarly generic Disney like ballads (into the unknown is probably gonna be something NingNing covers).
Edit: oh and also I don’t know if it’s because blue/silver contact lenses are cheaper in bulk, but I’m gonna need them to stop. Blue is not versatile. Please get her some hazel contacts or honey brown if you gonna do all that.

i saw it somewhere else, and was like lightbulb. Definitely seems like an opinion that’s going to be popular. I even looked up older clips and that just seems to be her vocal aesthetic even while singing other songs!

Her voice really suits Chinese ballads / c-pop love songs. I'm not sure how it's going to work here .

See I didn’t even think about that. I’m not familiar with the genre at hand so I can’t speak on it or her like that. I also think people are being a tad hyperbolic. I don’t think she sounds bad, a bit processed but like...it’s k pop.

I know you didn’t insulate this but I think their teasers are different simply because that’s necessary in showcasing their skill sets, nothing to do with the potential group sound (although I bet we will see them lean more into Giselle). The track used in Giselle’s video is exactly How k pop thinks rap is. NingNing got what is essentially supposed to be an anthemic inspirational power ballad to highlight her singing. Winter...is pretty. I don’t know if Karina’s video did much for her, but if she gets another one it’s definitely going to be “sexy” dance performance or tryhard hiphop. The real group sound will probably be in the first group video teaser/highlight reel.

K pop manages to make anybody sound good together (*throws glitter* studio magic!). Not saying this group will automatically be great, or even good. It I’ll be interesting because SM loves harmonies and right now all we got is NingNing and Karina (there is a clip of her singing on the Internet).

They’ve been dull and so unmotivating. I don’t even think they are bad (definitely not good), and I’m just ready to move on to their actual debut (Actually first comeback because I know a song called Black Mamba gonna irk my nerves). But If they put out a good enough string of songs, in a year or so we will forget about these just like with Red Velvet’s uninspired debut teasers.

I'm probably not the best with the lingo but she sounds like she's straining(?). It might just be the song, or the technique, or the language she's singing in, but the vocals here aren't easy on the ears for me? You can tell she's putting alot of force on her vocal chords.

So far, aespa sometimes gives me Itzy vibes and at other times BP ones. So I either end up eating my words and loving them or I'll end up avoiding them like the plague lol.

i was disappointed but not surprised with giselle's rap bc, well, not everyone can be mark lee. and that's okay. but ig a lot of people were hyping ningning because she was an smrookie but this is so underwhelming lmao i actually almost stopped it halfway in.
