[identity profile] rockerista03.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] omonatheydid

The editor and stylist whose accusations about Red Velvet member Irene’s behavior led to an apology from the idol has now written a post clarifying some details and asking for fans to stop posting malicious comments.

Through her Instagram stories on October 23, the editor wrote the following message, in which she referred to Irene as “C” and SM Entertainment as “B Company.”

I’ve already been hurt and I won’t ever forget the pain. However, I wanted a direct apology from C in order to protect my dignity as a human being, and I met C together with people in charge from B Company. It took some coordination and time for yesterday’s meeting to happen.

After I first uploaded my post, I didn’t take any action because I also needed to make rational and wise decisions in every moment in preparation for this situation. The biggest reason was that I didn’t want to create a larger misunderstanding, and I didn’t want to add fire to the rampant speculation and chaos.

I thought that there was no need to take rash action because immediately after the incident, I received an apology from someone from B Company who had hired me and the managers who had been there, and they acknowledged her wrongdoing.

I’ve never been a stylist for C’s group. I was commissioned through outsourcing for one-day styling work for a shoot on Tuesday, October 20 (I was first commissioned for this on October 5. I received an official email about it on October 6, and I prepared for 15 days at the request of B Company and C’s group).

I wrote “someone met for the first time” because C had forgotten that day that she had worked with me on a shoot for a certain magazine in 2016 (I also confirmed this yesterday when we met) and also because her actions were something that happened not only to me but also to a junior editor who was helping me that day and to an assistant.

For that reason, those two people came with me to the meeting for the apology. They spoke with people from B Company and C and they both received an apology from C.

I thought from the beginning that there was no need to respond to thoughtless malicious comments from C’s fans. I still feel the same way. The reason that I still haven’t taken any action is that ever since I decided I needed to do something about this, my fundamental goal and objective has been for C to promise that she will never act like that toward anyone again and for her to meet with myself and my two team members and apologize. Since this has happened, I’ve stopped everything after receiving the official apology yesterday.

Although some people have imagined and speculated about this, nothing like a financial settlement has taken place. (Currently there is just the processing of my pay and compensation for expenses for the October 20 one-day work). Also, the word “settlement” didn’t even come up at the meeting yesterday. It was a meeting for an apology, not for a settlement.

I had to protect myself until the end. At the meeting, I requested an apology letter that would include B Company and C’s acknowledgement of wrongdoing, apology, and promise to not commit such actions again because there was no reason for me to continue to be indiscriminately attacked by thoughtless people and so that there would be no further misunderstandings. This post will also be my last time expressing my stance on the matter.

I am one person. I have upheld the ethics of my job that I believe in and I always do my best at whatever job I am given. I also make mistakes, and I could be seen as a bad person by someone and as a good person by someone else. C is the same in that way. But I couldn’t conclude that this incident was my own personal matter. I acted in this way for the sake of recovery from defamation and protection of dignity for myself, who completed all of my professional work related to my commission, and my colleagues who have had the same experience as me.

I’m going to work hard so that I can somehow overcome this pain and return to my place to continue my life. Also, I won’t react or take any action related to this incident. That’s not for my sake; it’s my final act of consideration for C who came to that meeting yesterday. Also, if you are really a fan of C who sincerely cares about her, I hope that you will no longer cross the line and will stop. Those posts do not hurt me at all and they do not affect C positively in any way.

Finally, I did expect to some level, due to the size of this incident, invasion of my privacy and the stirring up of rumors for dramatic media manipulation, and although I know that I most likely can do nothing to stop that, it would be good if you stopped now. I am also preparing something regarding this.

This post has gotten long. From my position, I had to write this. I personally deeply apologize to the B Company staff for creating tiring work.

Finally, I earnestly ask this of the people who are reading this post. I hope that you will stop writing speculative posts and articles, which end up causing greater pain and damage to everyone. Thank you.

This is a very good statement tbh. She in no way absolves the situation and definitely knows her worth and it’s good to call these things out. I’m happy she spoke out even though I know she’s getting a ton of hate

Still sucks that it even had to be like this in the first place and I really hope Irene humbles herself and learns to treat people better because at your big age and from learning that people most likely have power over you in your industry why would you in turn treat others in a derogatory way.

That statement is EVERYTHING!! I stan!! Respectful but firm and I believe truly it was about the principle.

I don't know if Irene can bounce back fully but if she's sincere in her apology and the person involved forgives then I suppose I can too. Maybe she should take the rest of 2020 to 'reflect' and try to bounce back with RV in.....march perhaps.

Really great statement, it's been made abundantly clear that this person is an experienced professional and stood up for herself.

I think it would do Irene some good to take time off to reflect on her actions and to cultivate a better attitude. Acting the way that she did (for years) is extremely unprofessional and just...a shitty way to be in general. I bet she's feeling the consequences of her actions now and how much it's burdened others as well (RV, mainly), so I think now would be a good time to just lay low and....learn to be a better person.

I don't know. For someone who spent 15 years in the industry, I would imagine it would be more about receiving respect and not about getting money.

it's pretty ugly to question victim's post like that. they are very clear, eloquent and stated that all they ever wanted was a proper apology and to make sure that others won't be affected the same way.

Maybe but I wouldn't be surprised if this apology tour also came with a side of 'btw we will sue you for every cent you have and ever will have if that recording leaks'

I stayed quiet on the matter but this pretty much seals it for me. Honestly, it sounds more like this person stood up for her junior and the assistant, to create a safer(?) environment for them, than to cause controversy. In her position, what else could she really have done? I think she handled it well.

SM's quick reaction was already suspicious, which shows this isn't a one-time thing - they knew there was an issue. People have been quick to dismiss other alleged victims but they conveniently forget that most of Irene's "inside supporters" are tightly affiliated with SM, so it really means jack.

I'm not saying to ~cancel~ Irene or whatever but she needs an attitude fix. This will hopefully serve as a good wake-up call.

As usual, fans can fuck off.

This person is SUCH a badass?! Like I love how she only wanted an apology bcs she got her feelings hurt and that of her peers. Wow. Irene falls pale in comparison. I hope she changes, but thats so unlikely of people who have power and have attitude problems to begin with. I won't be able to support rv bcs of her, so I hope she either gets booted of takes a leave, at least for rn

damn, this editor's statement is powerful and great. I don't think I've seen such a good statement in a long time. I love the fact that she just wants the whole fiasco to end, and she got what she wanted. sounds like she is quite a big shot too, so hopefully her career won't be too blacklisted

Did they focce her into an nda or something?

Libel laws. Truth won't protect you from being sued, especially if losses can be linked back to her.

And since everyone already knows who it's about, she won't gain anything from naming them.
Besides, we don't know the details about the apology, so a type of NDA could be plausible.
I mean, she (presumably) still wants to work in the industry, so she has to be careful.

Depending on her reputation and seniority in the industry, that's not necessarily true.

Though I would agree that it seems unlikely that she will work with SM artists again.

From: [identity profile] em-cavey.livejournal.com
Idk, the industry revolves around stars who live and die on their public image and she went out of her way to destroy one with secret recordings and blackmail
Even if she was in the right, probably very few stars/agencies are going to feel comfortable working with her after this
Unless she's powerful herself, but that doesn't seem to be the case

Date: 2020-10-24 02:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kimbafierce.livejournal.com
She's a 15 years industry veteran I'd guess she has some kind of power, otherwise she wouldn't dare to stand up against SM and its artists. And I don't think she'd struggle with work either, she probably already has a list of loyal clients who wouldn't pull the plug on her just because she called out an over the top rude client.

Date: 2020-10-24 04:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] em-cavey.livejournal.com
I mean I hope you’re right and she doesn’t suffer too much just for doing the right thing but sadly that’s often not how these things work. And fashion/entertainment writing/editing is one of those fields where power is concentrated in the very few people at the top and everyone else are expendable worker bees. Just saying, longevity does not at all guarantee influence or power, especially in entertainment-related fields.

Plus ‘calling out a rude client’ is really understating the impact of what she did, there’s a chance she single-handedly tanked a major star's image/career beyond repair. And again, threats and blackmail. Righteous threats and blackmail, maybe, but still doesn't look good on your resume in an industry built around zealous secrecy and privacy. That’s part of why this whole thing is so fascinating, things like this almost never go public for good reason even though stars behave badly all the time

Date: 2020-10-25 09:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kimbafierce.livejournal.com
I totally agree but at the same time I think she probably already kept too much shit under wrap over the years of her work that she won't be subsect of running her mouth over the smallest things. I mean it could be just a translation error, but the fact that SM used the word "heinous" to describe Irene's outburst only makes me think she's said some very nasty things. And in that industry words travel fast, so people may have already heard of what happened before she shared it.

But I can also see her struggling to get famous/new clients, but tbh I don't think she gives a shit. idk maybe she was already thinking of retirement & decided she had enough, cause I can't see someone with that much experience throwing everything away without caring about the consequences or preparing for them.

I hope she doesn't suffer for this, cause otherwise i'd be so fucking unfair

All the respect to this editor for standing up for herself and her coworkers. That must have taken a lot of strength given who she was up against but she sounds really sure of herself and her principles. She made sure there were consequences for unacceptable actions which is more than many of us ever get so more power to her. I hope she doesn’t end up suffering too many consequences for it herself.

Whatever apology she got is most likely bullshit lbr, people who act like Irene don’t suddenly feel remorse just because they got caught. People don’t escalate to that level of disrespect overnight. She’s likely been building up this behavior for a long time and this is just normal for her at this point. Why would she suddenly feel bad for doing what she’s always done?
I doubt she really comes back from this. The public really REALLY does not like gapjil and now that’s Irene’s been established as someone who’s been gapjil-ing all along while putting on a pretty face for the masses, I’m not sure how they can rehab that image.

I bet a lot of asshole celebs are now going to think twice before acting out in public, at least for a while

i was really impressed by this statement, i feel like kpop labels could learn from her. she seems to be dealing this in a very sensible way - stopping everything after receiving an apology, the way she maturely addressed stans' harassing her.

it really seems that being treated like this by customers is not very uncommon though. she really seems to want to support those working in the industry but not being famous themselves through this statement.

I'm really happy with her response but I highly doubt SM/Irene will learn from this because it sounds like she's been criticized before and they've been hushing industry people up with NDAs and connections.

The Reveluvs who are blindly supporting her and trying to make this a whole take down conspiracy can rot. Like idol, like fans, I suppose. The amount of people I've had to block and unfollow because of their disgusting takes is making me so angry. I don't know if I will be able to support Irene after this.

I hope this doesn't fuck shit up for the other girls because they will be renegotiating their contracts end of year.

Seeing how fast this is transpiring is so shocking yet so predictable to me. She acted like an asshole and deserves EVERYTHING that's coming her way, but it is so shocking to me how even her groupmates are suffering consequences for this. Had she been a male in a bg no one would even care to comment, unless to make fun of the situation.

She has only but herself to blame, and I honestly feel sorry for the people she tormented over the years who didn't have the power to stand up for themselves or anyone to back them up. But I also feel sorry for the nice members who're dealing with this storm just because they're in the same group as her.

Yea on ontd a few weeks ago I was pretty positive about reveluvs (which btw I always hated that name, so many sweets puns they could’ve used...) I thought their fandom was pretty good compared to what I see with the big two.

But I’m taking that back and really I’m at that point that kpop fandoms are all trash 🗑 it was mostly me being naive as I don’t come across a lot of fandom stuff and gave the benefit of the doubt. Which I really shouldn’t.

Before this RV didn't really have any big scandals so I see why you'd think reveluvs were comparatively chill when you put them next to onces and especially blinks and armys. Though as someone who's butted heads with luvies on twitter I #beenknew they're just as shitty lol.

Yeah it's better to just write off every kpop fandom as being trash. But tbh, that's exactly what these companies want. For fans to be so attached to these idols that they'll sidestep their own morals in order to defend them.
