[identity profile] rockerista03.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] omonatheydid

On October 22, an Instagram post was uploaded by an editor and stylist about an unnamed celebrity. The post described an encounter with them in which she had been brought to tears by the celebrity’s harsh words and felt humiliated. The post included the hashtags “#psycho” and “#monster.”

This led to speculation about the subject of the post, with many people pointing out that those hashtags are titles of songs by Red Velvet and the sub-unit composed of Irene and Seulgi. Many began to suspect Irene when the editor deleted a complimentary post she had written about Irene in 2016.

Later that day, Irene wrote the following post on Instagram:

This is Irene.

I am sincerely sorry for hurting the stylist with my foolish attitude and careless words and actions.

Getting to this spot involved help from many people who worked together with me, but my immature actions caused great hurt and I regret that and am reflecting.

I’ve been looking back on the past because of this, and I’ve felt very embarrassed because of my lacking words and actions and I once again feel how precious the staff are.

I will be more cautious about my actions in the future so that this does not happen again.
I am sincerely sorry to the fans who support me and to everyone who has been caused concern because of this.

SM Entertainment has also released the following statement:

This is SM Entertainment.

We are conveying our statement about the stylist’s online post regarding Irene.

Irene personally met with the stylist this afternoon and sincerely apologized for deeply hurting her with her careless attitude and emotional words and actions, and she feels sorry for causing concern with her immaturity.

Our agency feels responsibility for this incident, and we do not forget the hard work of all the representatives and staff who work together with our company and our artists. We will work hard so that this does not happen again to the people we work with.

We once again apologize for causing concern to many people.

Following these statements, the original post by the editor has now been deleted.

If she said "actions" one more time...

I really hate when rich people treat other ones like trash, it reminds me of my retail job and I want to explode.

People saying they are surprised is just another reminder that we shouldnt put idols/celebs on a pedestal, we dont know how they are behind closed doors, with that being said she did personally apologize to the stylist in question so I hope she reflects, like she is a grown woman and she made a mistake so she has to own up to it, the fans acting like this is a conspiracy need to chill.

What I am not here for is everything else though, like reading the gendered insults being thrown at her made me sooo uncomfortable I had to stop reading. Then you have koreaboo taking anonymous troll pann posts and posting them as “industry insiders” to shit stir is making making me wary about this getting out of hand.

Female idols already get shit on for just existing especially irene so to have a female idol (and a popular one at that) make a mistake makes me scared for her tbh.

Just comparing similar past “controversies” and i use controversies lightly because the shit male idols do that they get away with vs female idols is laughable, I can already tell where this is going. I just hope SM at least bothers to do something about the people posting blatant lies since they will be taken at face value.

I'm very disappointed with Irene for seemingly not being able to keep a professional attitude during work but I can't say that much about the scandal because it's simply too vague. I will refrain from passing actual personal judgement until we know a bit more..

This side of the Korean entertainment business where they accuse 'person A' of doing various unspeakable things yet won't actually explain what was said is very toxic. It leads to a lot of speculation especially for female idols. The post was thick with detailed descriptions on how bad she felt during the situation but what actually happened was more mysterious than the existence of Atlantis. There is a big difference between being rude/in a bad mood and being genuinely verbally abusive/threatening.

Especially in SK where the simplest things that a girl does can lead to 'ugh she has such a bad attitude'.

This is so random. I want to know what she was raging about....and apparently someone who used to work with Red Velvet liked the post?

Those apologies are very underwhelming.

This really doesn't reflect well on Irene, even if we get more details about the initial event/Irene's word/why she acted that way, and it's a poor apology. It's disappointing. Being a celebrity isn't a reason to push down people working near you. At least the reaction was really quick... I would usually expect SM and its celebrities to stay silent as long as they can

I'm so mad at her and I'm so mad at SM for letting this shit fly :((((

I've read a lot of threads and from what the K-fans were translating, she's got an attitude and this is well-known in the industry. I know we joke that she's got a major RBF but I was genuinely rooting for her???

How can you make someone cry at their workplace...I just can't. It's so unexpected and she's my emotional support K-pop girl :((( All those videos of people saying she's being "cold" as a persona is really just making me second guess her whole persona. I can't deal with this after the whole AOA thing...I really hope she's not an asshole behind the scenes :(

The only reason she's apologized is because they have a recording of her rant so I'm 100% sure she and SM were scared the editor would leak it to the public.

This is so vague, which as others have pointed out allows people to interpret whatever her actions/words may have been their own way and skew it to be much worse. Not that I’m saying that she’s innocent, but female idols get so much shit just for existing and I feel like this is just fuel to further perpetuate that hate, esp being vague about it.

I’m glad she apologized quickly and even did it in person but this is so disappointing.

she didn't apologized quickly. The victim said she wanted to talk to Irene in the same day and wanted an apologize but Irene disappeared. She then made instagram post and it took over 1-2 days to Irene apologize.

Mostly they did because the victim said she recorded everything and if they didn't apologize and tried to deny it, she would post the audio record.

Apparently, her attitude is well known within the industry; enough to warrant warnings form and for people who will be working with her.

ETA that there’s no other evidence to back this up other than the accusser’s first post (which I believe has been taken down now). The screenshot of the editors and stylists liking the post were apparently fake.

At the beginning of the post in question, the stylist said that she “should have prepared [herself] from the stories heard about her” which means that Irene’s reputation clearly preceded her in certain industry circles...however, that could mean anything from her turning RBF toward the wrong person or actually having a not-that-great persona. It’s just vague.

At any rate, it’s definitely not a good look, and that half-assed apology doesn’t help at all.

Wow I’m surprised she/SM actually admitted to it and apologized. They must be terrified of the recording that the editor claimed to have.

I wonder why the editor was essentially willing to blacklist herself to make this public. She pretty much broke ranks with the industry at large and publicly attacked a popular idol who has a LOT of power behind her so she’s probably just burned a ton of bridges within a large circle of the industry. I’m not sure what it means that she felt this was worth it.

Guess we’ll wait and see. We know that at least this one invident is true, and I hope it’s a one time thing because one, no one deserves to be berated by anyone, least of all when it’s humiliating someone in front of people, and two, I hope this case teach her some humility.

Yea my opinion has been affected too.

I never asked for her to be a perfect saint. But I ask people to be decent human beings, and I mean everyone not just idols. Even if this a one time experience for her, she can’t take back how she made that person feel and they have every right to feel the way they do about her. Irene isn’t defined by this only experience but this is a part of her character in some way and she needs some deep reflection of her character.

I’ll keep an open mind if anything comes out but I’m not going to act like this doesn’t affect how I see her.

genuinely shocked but at least she apologized which is more than others usually do (the bar is this low, i know). would be nice to actually get context regarding what happened because everything is so vague - it could be about anything! but we aren't people who are involved in this so nobody is obliged to provide any extra info.
tho i find very weird this whole influx of comments regarding irene being known for having attitude which is just not true lol. she is known for being the opposite of it and there were many posts about her being kind to staff since debut. nobody just bothered to compile it in case of something like this.
ofc everyone can and should question it but the way people are straight up making up something just to prove 'wow she was a bitch all along' is very stange. f.e. the post that is floating on twitter (and i see it in this post too) was proven fake.

yeah this is really annoying me, like no one is applying common sense here and it seems to be done on purpose because people want to justify their preexisting feelings about her.

there is no excusing this incident, even if the stylist fucked up she should not be berating someone as a full grown ass woman but the things I have been reading that have came out since is just so appalling and misogynistic, you can tell people are getting gleeful about using this incident to hate because people suddenly treat koreaboo and anonymous korean troll posts with no sources and fake screenshots/accounts as the truth and journalism lol

Tbh there's a chance that the accuser will be blacklisted, as least by SM. Us industry people very rarely broke ranks, and chances are you'll hear through the grapevine who's being blacklisted by a company and that will affect your judgement in not wanting to risk working with them.

We all have our off days but berating someone who's working for you to the point where they're in tears is unacceptable under just about any circumstance. And judging from who liked the post (yes I know some were made up, but there were confirmed accounts, one being red velvets former stylist) and the fact that when this started gaining traction, Seulgi was immediately cleared by industry folk while Irene wasn't.... it doesn't seem like this was a one off.

Idk, I just hope she isn't like that with the other members.

With multiple people supporting the stylist, including staff from her recent movie and former backup dancers and SM employees, its clear this was not an isolated incident (and she still wouldn't deserve a pass even if it was), she's genuinely a vile human being with an ego and attitude problem who bullies those lower than her in the hierarchy. And she's a 30 year old grown-ass woman, she knows better.I've been in that stylists position with having some influencer my employer wanted to collab with humiliate me publicly and it honestly made me want to die in that momeny.Fuck people who abuse their power
