I think it's more the money is in their full control. A lot of the families on ROS now have their own youtube channels.
As much as ROS can be questioned from an ethical standpoint broadcasters at least have to meet a level of protective standards for the kids working/being filmed/getting paid, youtube channels have none.
Full editorial control and flexibility of when you want to film, and if you are popular you get paid more (I assume) and you can take on more sponsors possibly?
full editorial control and flexibility to film whenever and for however long when it comes to children can be a very bad idea depending on the parents. going from ROS to now self-filmed/own youtube channel really blurs the line for a lot of kids between "work" and "real life" and can be damaging/exploitative.
Family channels... hmmm.... I don't like it. I mean, seeing them can be cute but I just think making money on filming your children when they have no real say in the matter, or ability to make an informed decision on if they want to/don't want to be in it, is a no-no. Although, I guess that is true for tv shows like they one they left too... but it just feels different to me? Can't really explain my feelings/thoughts properly tho...
it's probably a good venture for Soyul since ROS can't feature too much of mums. and I would rather Soyul than Heejun.
makes me wonder also about Park Jooho, since he had a crew for the YouTube channel, wonder if it's a collaboration with KBS since he's also returning to the show, and the videos were a stopgap measure while the children spend time in Switzerland
