the demographic of the ellen show viewers is not the same as the demographic for superm so i don't understand why they even went the first time

Speculation : I think because Ellen is (was) a big name in television and is/was generally seen as positive. this would put groups which can seem distant and inaccessible in a positive more friendly and more down-to-earth light. And the Ellen show probably likes it because they will get thousands of views for people wanting to see their faves. Win Win.
