Breaking: Hongbin Leaves VIXX

Hongbin has now withdrawn from VIXX, and the group will be promoting with five members in the future.

On August 7, Jellyfish Entertainment shared the following statement:

Hello.

This is Jellyfish.

We are sharing an official statement regarding VIXX member Hongbin.

First, we express our sincere gratitude to fans who love VIXX a lot, and we are conveying sad news.

On August 7, Hongbin shared his intention to withdraw from VIXX. After careful discussion with the VIXX members and Hongbin, we are respecting his wishes and so it’s been decided that he will leave the group.

It’s planned that VIXX will promote as a five-member group in the future. We are very sorry to fans for causing concern with this sudden news, and we ask you to continue to love and support the VIXX members.

Thank you.

In February, Hongbin made some comments about other idol groups during a Twitch stream, and some of the comments became the subject of controversy. Following the broadcast, both Jellyfish Entertainment and Hongbin apologized.

On August 6, Hongbin shared a post on Twitch in which he gave an update for fans. After first asking how everyone has been, he shared his intentions to return to the platform.

“I’ve been thinking that I want to be doing fun broadcasts again where we can laugh and chat while gaming together,” he wrote. “Many changes have happened while I was taking a break from broadcasts. I’m still adjusting, so I’m a bit all over the place. I still don’t know how the broadcasts might change in the future as well, but I’m planning on doing broadcasts that you can comfortably watch while laughing and chatting like before.”

“It’s possible that you’ll see how I’m inexperienced and still wandering, but I’m going to try harder so that they can be fun broadcasts we can enjoy together,” he added. “I’m sorry for making you wait so long. See you soon.”

I always wondered what was going to happen with him, after the twitch thing I assumed he'd just fade and not take part in group promos, which would be easy with VIXX currently going through army service. yeah, it was clear that he was only really put in the group to boost his name for his acting since a lot of companies do that, but then he wasn't really successful there so i guess he just went to streaming full time? like, i always enjoyed his tone of voice but hyuk surpassed him in talent ages ago.

I'm not surprised he's leaving the group... I'm surprised it took so long. I expected it to happen right after the twich debacle, not months after the whole thing died down.
I guess there were a lot of talk between Jellyfish and him (maybe even with the rest of the group).
His words in the stream rubbed me the wrong way but I was always more worried about him thinking that getting drunk on a lifestream was a good idea. Either he was already over life as an idol (and good for him to finally leave it behind! why did you have to act like this though...), either he needs help, and to be away from spotlight for a while.
I wish him well.

As someone mostly N-biased... Being a fan of VIXX has definitively been a bittersweet experience. I don't really know how to feel. In the end, I feel like I had already checked out of the group when N enlisted.

On one hand, I'm not really surprised but on the other hand, I do wonder why it took him so long to finally leave when his scandal was months ago. He could have waited it out, especially if he'll be enlisting next year. I don't care much for him because he really showed his ass with his comments and I'm sure those aren't the only 'hot takes' he's been keeping to himself all these years.

This honestly doesn't surprise me. I don't like it but it doesn't surprise me.

For Jellyfish, it feels like it would have made more sense just to "leave him in the group" since they aren't really promoting together for a long time due to enlistment.

For Hongbin, I can see why he'd rather leave the idol life behind if he doesn't want to fit into that mold anymore. If he really wants to be a streamer, and Jellyfish says no (even with no drinking), the choice was easy for him. He was never going to have solos like Ken, Ravi, Leo and Hyuk.

So, that's it, I guess. I still liked what he brought to their songs, but we weren't getting that for a long time anyway (if ever, I had doubts they would ever promote together again), so I'll just keep listening to the music we already had.

As far as offenses go, his scandal wasn't even that bad in my books, and I wish him no harm. But as a longtime VIXX fan, he never really brought anything to the group, so I won't be missing him, tbh /shrug
I hope he learned his lesson about drinking and streaming, and that this experience helped him to be a little less conceited, specially when he's the last person in the world that could shit on other people's talent and/or popularity lol

As someone who remembers and quite liked vixx at their peak, this makes me sadder than I expected given that I really didn't care about him either way. End of an era for another gen 2/2.5 group.

On a human level, I hope it was indeed his choice to leave since he has virtually no other real career prospects but I suspect it was. You'd have to be seriously checked out of the idol lifestyle/priorities to do/say what he did.

i haven't cared for him since mydol and he's done nothing to endear himself to me since then, so it's an "Eh...-Arm-Shrug" for me tbh. I'll admit to only really caring about Leo and N, but I mostly dropped Leo after that weekly idol stunt. (It would be all the way but everyone who knows me knows I make poor decisions and should love myself more :/)*
