Hate to start the comments off in gloomy fashion since I really like these girls and root for them, but I've read from twitter fans from Hawaii that FNC used Aloha Oe name and melody sample really inappropriately? :/ the song was written and sung by Hawaii's deceased queen before the country was colonised, so the song/name has a lot of importance to the country and should only be used by other people in certain contexts? and apparently there's even hula movements (https://twitter.com/daeguud/status/1291062124014268416) in there that look bad
Our Queen who wrote this and died of sorrow because our land was stolen. Our language was banned. Our culture was decimated. Why did you try and use it for some happy tourist song?

This (https://twitter.com/HWISJOY/status/1291064452041728000?s=19) has a list of threads explaining the controversy. I've seen a few Hawaiian people say they're okay with it, but I've seen way more speaking up to say they're not comfortable with it so I feel obliged to listen to them (anyone here from Hawaii do correct me if I'm wrong)
As for the song itself, it sounds cute and boppy. Not an instant love, but Hands Up grew on me a lot so this might do the same. If only FNC would get rid of that one melody and fix the song name, then I could properly enjoy it...
yep, i'm not from hawaii but when i read the title i felt unease... and tbh reading this thread confirms it. there's no need to use this melody and title for the song... the song is cute but since koko mirae and linlin left i've been meh about the group (even though i love haeyoon, yuju, and the rest of the girls).
Yea with everything that happened to AOA, Mirae is already in a new group - so she wanted to stay in kpop but not CB. The girls in CB I hope aren’t facing the issues AOA have but something at FNC ain’t right.
Plus to add to that, I saw a former member of U-KISS say he was kicked out and their company lied and he said he wanted to focus on his studies as why he ‘left’. Soooooo I’m much more skeptical on companies reasons why members left, I imagine there’s more members getting kicked out than voluntarily leaving than I first thought.
yeah me either. it kinda sounds like 외/웨 but i think it's a pronounciation issue because of the vowels close together o + e 오+에, kinda form a diphthong/semivowel sound like "w". not sure if it's on purpose or what but someone should've corrected them...
yep... like what's the need to use something from another culture. the song even has a wikipedia page... why use something from a different culture that has a lot of meaning just to do a summer pop song ????
When I saw the name I knew FNC would have done something wrong. Wasn't aware of the history behind the name though! Yeah a minor google would've told you all you need to know.
I’m done with FNC so I won’t be listening - sorry girls, but I’m glad I read this post. god FNC is fucking trash as usual :( quit using cultures for inspiration~ that doesn’t pertain to you jfc
The tennis dance parts are very Oh My Girl - Liar Liar.
It sounds like a B-side. Also, maybe it's just me but I can't even hear the sampling and Aloha Oe. It sounds like they completely changed everything. Not saying that forgives them in ANY way. But it makes me wonder why they couldn't just take it a bit further and change it up completely. Why even sample? They could have just as easily sang Let's go A-hoy or something else...
