Almost all of them (besides Seohyun) are in their 30s now, they're grown up women and I am so damn proud of what they have achieved. It's her birthday as well.
I've been their fan for nearly 10 years now, so it's always an emotional moment for me. So much of my life happened with their songs playing as background music... I know they're not perfect and I won't ever shield them for any of their mistakes, but in some ways, it's healing? My idols are humans too. Life is messy.
I'm also a woman getting into her 30s, like them. I'll never achieve the same level of success they have lol (and I don't want to) but there's something really inspiring about seeing them going on their different paths now. Like some distant friends I look up to when I need it.
Time for me to replay their discography and cry while attempting to sing Into the New World lmao

Naming my ultimate song of theirs is difficult because I love so much of what they released for so many reasons.... I wanted to go with Reflection but thats not on Spotify, so instead I chose Day by Day! That one is so pretty and it gives me such good feelings, I'll always adore it.

It was a really good choice to make it about moving forward despite inevitable struggles, without specifying the goals or the struggles themselves. The MV even plays on this with each girl have different goals. It speaks to everyone this way. I think it's a major reason why it's used during protests. It's definitively a reason why I love it so much haha

girlswomen aren’t perfect, but I don’t think anyone can deny the impact they have made & the success that they have had. Seeing them grow from bb SNSD that seemingly everyone disliked to the SNSD that became the Nation’s Girl Group these past 13 years has been a gift. Here’s to many many many more years of success & happiness, for all 9! 🥂Also, their first Japan album was absolutely pure pop perfection. Every single solitary song on it is amazing.

Date: 2020-08-05 09:52 pm (UTC)I still didn't really get that invested though, they fell by the wayside for me in 2016-2017 (so I was on the sidelines for the 10th anniversary... sigh). I feel like maybe there was a lot of drama/fuckery around this time that just kind of turned me off them? I really don't remember, K-pop in general kind of fell off for me a bit at this time, burn out from 2015 maybe lol
But they all seem a lot more chilled out these days, I guess due to getting older, not having to be 'on' as much all the time, and getting to pursue their solo projects which is nice to see.
What started off as a sort of distraction last summer turned into legit admiration, the fact that they're my age helps. They've pretty much been the soundtrack to my year, a bright spot in what has overall been a pretty blah year even pre-covid. I'm thankful to them for that and I'll keep looking forward to whatever they put out, as a group and any solo projects.
So I'm waaaayyy late as a fan, but I'm glad I got there eventually lol
I know Catch Me If You Can probably doesn't have much standing overall, but I like it and it was my first comeback so it has a special place for me lol

Hoot is such an iconic era because of the outfits. Soshi as bond girls is such a look. Also, Hoot is one of the choreos I learnt to do.

Their first Japanese album is solid, even if almost half of the songs were remakes. There is always at least 2 bangers on these albums. Watching their first Japanese tour legit made me a full on stan! Tbh, Soshi are one of the few kpop groups that have great Japanese songs overall. A lot of kpop group either release remakes, some half assed song that is cringey/cutesy or a basic song that is mostly English. That's why I appreciate their Japanese discography so much more because their songs have legit replay value. Their last two Korean albums were pretty good actually, Lion Heart is hands down my fave Korean album from them ever but Holiday Night is not far behind. I never thought I'd get into Soshi initially because I wasn't feeling their music, but now I'm even jamming to songs from their debut album lmao XD I also appreciate that they always do something very distinct for each era, their concepts are legit iconic. I really do love these unnies, not only are they a joy to watch on stage (bless that charisma) but they are also absolutely hilarious on variety - their Weekly Idol episode is probably one of the best episodes from that show, even if you're not a fan.
