Uniq contract ends in 2022.
I think they will renew, especially the chinese members. Seungyoun probaly will too, because he can freely produce his music in yuehua. But they didnt give sungjoo much work in the past 4 years, so i dont know about him.

That said: a comeback is very unlikely.

I mean I get that the group was picked with bias and all that scandal stuff. but the boys themselves didn't do anything from what I gather. And they worked hard. And if I-Zone can continue with success, why did they squash this group? I'm confused.

people were so vocal about disbanding the group in the name of fairness and whatnot, but never cared for the eliminated trainees nor supported them, nor seem to care that mmet is still out there doing survival shows as if nothing happened. Nor did they care that they were bashing people that had no say in any of what the higher ups were scheming, let alone stopping to think that half of the members of X1 were minors, the youngest being literally 14 years old.

There are legitimate reasons to be angry about the vote manipulation and how mnet/cjem took advantage of trainees' dreams for rating, but the most vocal ones were just a bunch of hypocrites and simply rejoiced at X1 being put in the dungeon, banned from shows, unilaterally disqualified for rookie awards (even tho the only people who were doing better than them in digital and physical were bts, exo and seventeen lol), sworn at, and blamed for all the wrongs in the universe. Those are the people they wanted to appease?

Isn't this all about money? Their loyal fans would buy anything with their name on it and they were strong in both physical and digital. Why did they care about the opinions of people who weren't gonna buy anything x1 related?

IZone already had contracts signed and in place, X1's werent completed so the agencies were free to pull out. Starship especially was knee deep in the rigging controversy after the Wonho stuff as well, and they wanted to pull their two boys out for Cravity. I honestly think everyone else would have gone through with it, everyone else was from a smaller agency.

In my opinion. Plan A wanted to pull Seungwoo. Victon got a significant push when they came back with byungchan, I'm sure they expected victon to blow up with Seungwoo back.

Also, Top Media is acting like up10tion doesn't exist and solely focused on jinhyuk. And as expected, they made wooseok go solo. Jinhyuk has a solo comeback. No doubt Top Media wants the quick cash grab and leech off jinhyuk and wooseok's fandom instead of putting them back in their group.

I also wouldn't put it past woollim. When yunseong went back to woollim, they communicated with fans and had some activities. But once Junho went back to trainee days, they all disappeared and it's radio silence expect emerging back once every blue moon. They could try to get that oneit support but instead act like Junho was never part of x1.

And Oui. Until recently, I didn't think much of them but seeing as they're putting Yohan in this mismatched group (with a soloist to boot), completely ignoring his fans' demands for more content, and also act like X1 never existed, I'm inclined to think Oui wanted him to get those acting gigs and put him in their project boy group.

I am still dumbfounded about their decision too. I mean, this is all about money, and X1 were profitable. They sold over 640k on hanteo and they charted for a long while on digitals. Like I said in the reply above, why would they care more for the opinion of people who weren't consuming their stuff, over the sale power of their big fandom?

I*zone outsold their previous album and are the best selling girl group of the year (so far) despite being dragged into the scandal. I suspect that with all the frustration that came with X1 promoting two months and not being allowed on most shows, then disappearing for 3 months, their fans would have been even more motivated to show support. I'm sure they would have sold at least 700k if they had come back.

Now, this is my opinion, but I think that 1) because mnet/Cjem, in order the save face, publicly promised that they would not receive any profit from X1's future activities, it wasn't interesting for them to hold onto the group anymore. 2) the agencies of some members prob wanted to take advantage of the newly gained fame instead of waiting for 2.5 years (iirc, the contract said that mnet raked basically almost all the profit while the agencies are paid in fame/coverage), so they prob pushed for disbandment.

also, to add to this, the agreement was that if only one agency wanted the group to end they'd kill it, rather than have a majority and keep going as a whole or with the members from the agencies who said no missing

iirc there were rumours that the majority of agencies said to keep going, but a couple said no and that's why x1 was killed

And that is so baffling. I speculate that the companies of the members who have a group to return to wanted out, like Starship, Plan A, but really. This is an 11-member group. They could still perfectly function with half the members out. This whole "it needs to be unanimous" rule was just to fuck the group over, cause it was obvious not every company would agree. oh absolutely. democracies literally do not work like that, so there's no way that that method was designed to benefit the kids and keep the group going. also the fact the members weren't even consulted really gets me. iirc the izone girls were at least asked if they wanted to continue. the boys didn't even have that luxury and didn't even know the meeting was happening until the decision had been made. also i believe the meeting was 10-12 minutes long in total? they made a whole decision of the future of the group in 10 minutes?!

i want to say something in this post to support x1 but damn it's so hard without being being shady regarding w1 or bringing up how their disbandment went down...
i genuinely enjoyed their debut which was such a big surprise for me as i have very little interest in boy groups and checked them out only because i really liked seungyoun/uniq. but honestly they did everything that i wanted to see from bg debut - fun song, nice vocals, i loved the choreo and everyone was actually coordinated and was pulling their weight in. i enjoyed their performances (the very few that we actually got) a lot!
let's end this miserable path for seungyoun tho, i hope he won't have to go through something like this again tho.

There was a rumour going around that Seungyoun would join the lineup of Kingdom and my knee jerk reaction was "hell no". On the other hand, another opportunity for him to showcase his skills and artistry, gain new fans, and collect more fanboys/hoobaes? I am torn.

(i'm always surprised about when uniq debuted, i always think it's much earlier than it actually was) but he only debuted solo this year. why would they put him on that show??? it goes against the meaning of the show. if he's on it, i'll be bamboozled

But to be honest, mnet like to bend the rules however they see fit. Seungyoun is in that weird position, cause he could be the Park Bom of the show, as the oldest senior, but like you said, he released his first solo album this year, but debuted solo a couple years ago. G-idle debuted one year before the start of Queendom, while TOO hadn't actually even debuted yet but still got into the show (cause they came from mnet's latest survival show or whatever). So really, all bets are off.

He's the only trainee that never went down in rankings, and the X1 member who started at the lowest in ranking (67th, while most of the member started in the top 15 lol). His rise to popularity was not something overnight but steady. He started getting noticed for his energetic and comic personality, only to floor everyone with his duality in the first performance as the main vocal of his team, then came the rise of "all-rounder" Seungyoun with his great rap perf, and so on. By the end of the show, everybody knew Seungyoun and Seungwoo were the trainees to admire and fear. As a fan of Seungyoun, this was a treat. If you want to show him off or endear him to someone who doesn't know him, tell them to watch his clips. Main vocal, main rapper, main dancer, center, gag character, mood maker, spokeperson, MC, leader? He did it all. XD

He got so much hate, it was honestly disheartening to see. Every time there was a post about him, it would have a whole lot more of downvote compared to other posts. Also, most of the reasons were stupid, saying he would taint the image of the group because of his "unclean" image, because he's old/not fresh, because he's a second-hand idol, and so on. But as the hater were loud, his fandom grew even more protective.

Speaking of the hate, it was disheartening for a very long time but by the end, his image/reputation did a complete 180° and he became a pillar of X1, one of the members of the infamous kimkimhancho quatuor. It was quite funny how he went from the number 1 enemy to get rid of, to the guy x1 couldn't survive without. We love a good Cinderella type of story! XD

haha well it's very nice to see seungyoun supporters on omona! being uniq fan was always a 'who' kind of situation, so i'm still quite happy how things turned around for most members and that despite group not existing - they all are doing well.
i still remember all the hate posts popping up when the show was airing which was a part of why i noped out early on. it's great that despite how everything went down he managed to come out of it as a winner and with a lot of new fans recognizing his talents. but i still can't help feeling sad that x1 never got the opportunity to show it all.

Seungyoun coming out on top, gaining people's admiration and respect, and releasing one of best albums of the year are the best things that came out of this disbandment. But yeah, I will always miss X1 and I can't help wondering what they had in store for us, what were they filming that had seungyoun dye his hair like that, all the going in and out of the company building and so on. I was looking forward to so many things, like their comeback with the black panther, or how the line distribution would look like this time, if seungwoo would stopped being a fraud and rap, etc. Lol

They were robbed of so many opportunities and were treated unfairly, especially with the banning and being rigged out of the rookie awards. I mostly focus on the happy memories but I'll never stop wistfully sigh thinking about what could have been and be bitter at mnet getting away unscathed.

one yibo is enough to guarantee all the top spots for uniq lol. but i guess all members are busy in their own ways so it's a long shot. would be nice to get at least some kind of little reunion but that's a dream.
in a way i still find it very odd that x1 - a group that actually made sense to me as far as top spots go - blew up like that as a fraud. all pd101 groups were rigged (and even without that - the tv edit you get is your career, don't even need to rig any numbers so mnet was too dumb and greedy to begin with) but damn that one time i actually felt like it's a coherent project - it went down.
