C.N Blue MinHyuk - “It really hurts to be misunderstood as a fake band’

Flower boy band C.N Blue drummer Kang MinHyuk talks about the hardship he had gone through to go come thus far.

During Mnet ‘CN BlueTory’ aired on 24th February, Kang MinHyuk spoke up about his anger of their musical capabilities of their idol band.

He said, “There was posts written on the internet about how C.N Blue did not plug in their instruments during their performance. We practise for so many years just to be able to perform in front of everyone, we came prepared and yet when I saw posts like that I feel very hurt. Like dance singers or all singers, band singers like us also went through a long period of training. We look at the popular musicians during their public performances and really practise very hard.” with tears flowing.

He added, “There is this bias about the band singers in our country and it becomes the walls of development and growth. And because of that, I am hurt and I want to break through this. So I tell myself that I have to work harder in the future.”

Other than that, leader member Jung YongHwa was also featured saying, “Even though we are receiving much love from fans these days, there are also those who go ‘Those kids are fake band’, and it is very sad to hear them. Hearing those words is just unfair and hard for us. But we will work hard to improve so as to be acknowledged as true musicians.”

I think its also because there are press which call them an "indie band" and the problem with that along with all the "noise" made about them before, has indie-elites screaming about how CNBLUE shouldn't claim to be an indies band...in fact that they shouldn't even BE A BAND.

There were rumors that they don't even RECORD their own music, that there were other musicians playing their instrumentals while Yong Hwa and Jong Hyun sings during their CD recording.

But I think those who have been to any of CN BLUE's live house performances in Japan can argue that, whole nonsense that they don't play their own instruments. Coz in Japan if you haven't gotten some sort of credibility Live Houses won't even let you play in them.

Band's like C.N Blue and F.T. Island I feel have such a harder time in Korea because well ... frankly I don't know why. It seems Koreans or netizens or who the hell ever would rather listen to 2PM and Big Bang and other bands rather than listen to band singers.

You have people like Hongki who are pushed to the back because even if they have one of the most gorgeous voices, they can't be a dinner and entertainment. They can't sing and dance and Korea loses interest.

I feel like bands like C.N Blue and F.T Island have so so so much potential, I wish more time was spent on these guys, focusing on these guys, where they have to work 10x harder to try to compete with guys who flip and twirl in the air, or even rap while hopping around on stage.

Korea is a cruel world; But it comes with the business no?

Agreed with this! I hate that they're so talented and they clearly work really hard to do their job--and are good at it, too--but k-pop is so dominated by the groups that sing&dance that whenever a band emerges, they have to work a ton harder to get recognition. :/ I love the groups who dance, too, but it's so unfair to the bands a lot of the time and I hate that.

A lot of the backlash is just because they went mainstream and honestly lost some of their credibility that they started with... But if you know their history then you know that they literally started from scratch and worked their way up, so people should give them a break.

i feel bad for them, but at the same time that's the image their company is putting out there for them. they're on the variety show circuit & in photoshoots just like the idol groups are. and while that's the path to fame, its also the way to get a lot of shit from people. the more i hear about this group, the more i think that their company is screwing them over in certain respects.

and on a lot of bands don't always play live on music shows because the station doesn't want them too. so i can see why people might react poorly to that, but its not really an indication of whether or not a band is "real" or "fake". it just shows you what kind of program it is. if i recall correctly, didn't they only play live on the first new episode of m countdown?

Well instead of crying about it they need to start gigging - play live, busk, whatever it takes to discredit the rumors and attitudes of 'fake' surrounding them. They need to go grass-roots and set themselves apart in a more proactive way.

I agree with this, but we have to remember that they're still under the control of FNC and if they're out to get money, they're not going to go play live on the streets when going the idol route seems like a much simpler way to get recognition.

I don't think doing music shows and photoshoots has anything to do with it. I think it is the fact that they don't do anything musically outside of all of it to prove that they are awesome.

They really have no control over anything anymore. So if this hurts their feelings they better get a tough skin until their contract ends. Now that they are making money for their company there is no way in hell the company is going to let them go back
