Boys Over Flowers is one of the biggest Korean drama hits of our time, sweeping ratings and awards across Asia in 2009 and 2010. This Korean take on the popular Japanese manga of the same name, tackles complex issues involving outcasts, socio-economic disparity, family, love, and friendship. Jan Di is an average girl whose family owns a dry cleaning store located near the luxurious and well known Shin Hwa High School. After saving a boy from jumping off the roof of Shin Hwa High School, Jan Di is admitted into the school on a swimming scholarship. At school, Jan Di tries to avoid confrontation with the four richest and most spoiled boys known as the F4, because she knows what happens to those that stand against them. However, when Jan Di's friend, Oh Min Ji, accidentally gets ice cream on the leader of the F4's shoes, she's forced to declare war on the leader of the F4, Goo Joon Pyo. What will happen though, when she falls in love with someone from the F4 and Goo Joon Pyo starts feeling something for her too? Will the love triangle disrupt F4 and change their lives forever? Get ready for addictive drama, romance and comedy at it best.

Thank you so much to everyone who watched this drama these past weeks! It was a struggle, but we got through it yay! Hopefully we can get together again soon for the next flashback weekly watch. But I need a little break first because all I want to do is punch Lee Minho's face every time I see him.

It made Lee Min Ho a star because the drama was popular. The japanese and taiwanese versions were already out and everybody knew them. Everybody was talking about F4 and he was in the center. Starting with that is ok but I don't understand why he's still playing the same roles. I wish him the best but I hope he can show new faces.

The drowing scene was so stupid. Why didn't they move when they arrived? Even Jihoo? Ok, Jun Pyo is finally remembering but it doesn't deserve her life. I was screaming "Hurry up!!!".

I can't believe it made him a star either.

Anyway, totally feel you on the PMS migraine. Every damn month :(

Finally it's over! And the last episode didn't disappoint. How can he propose the first day they meet again? And Gaeul too, she said her boyfriend lived in Sweden so it means she waited for him during 5 years? I guess the 1st time I was blinded by the fact I wanted them together so I didn't realise the ending was terrible.
I knew I wouldn't like it as much but I didn't think I would hate it. I guess I liked Goo Jun Pyo from the beginning because he was handsome and stuck with it. Also, I couldn't stand JiHoo. However watching him with JanDi all the time I don't understand why she waited for Jun Pyo. She rejects him all the time and Jihoo was her first love. The only moments when she cares for Jun Pyo is when he is at hospital, which is just normal feelings for any human being. It isn't love.

I'm glad male characters changed a bit. Even if the lead is always a spoiled rich boy, they are less clingy. In the drama I'm watching now the female lead said it's not romantic to insist when someone rejects you because it means you don't respect their feelings and the male lead agreed. I wanted to hug them both.

I had to take a mental health break from the internet last week but the only comment I have about episodes 23-24 is pretty much that Jan Di should've declared herself to be Woo Bin's girlfriend and live out her life as a mafia princess. Truly a missed opportunity.

Why is Jan Di so invested in Jun Pyo remembering her??? This would've been the perfect opportunity to go on with her life without a controlling asshat breathing down her neck.
Introducing a new character this late into the show is stupid, couldn't they have brought Min Ji back or something?
Am I supposed to believe that after Jun Pyo's mother tries to all but assassinate Jan Di/her family that she's just going to be "sure, my son can absolutely date and pretty much get engaged to this random girl that he met at a hospital"?? And was Jan Di really ready to drown herself in that pool? How come Jan Di's mother is ok with her daughter to "do whatever she wants" now, after she's spent the last 24 episodes insisting that her daughter should marry a rich guy so the rest of the family can mooch off the guy as well??? God the writing here is unbearable!

Lmao at Yi Jung's arbitrary country choice, are any of the Nordic countries particularly famous for pottery (I know Finland has some famous design related things but those are glassware I think)? Also a really douchy move for him to be like "I'll be gone for 4-5 years and when I come back I'll find you but during that time I won't keep any contact with you" like ???? Phones and the internet work up here.

Those extras at the graduation party were not paid enough to put any effort into their dancing lmfao even I could make it look more natural

There's a 2007 documentary called Coma (it's on HBO I think), it's quite interesting. Basically, Jun Pyo's dad wouldn't just be up and about that fast after spending God knows how many months in a coma...

What even is that final scene? How did Yi Jung and Woo Bin end up on the beach? It's not fair that Woo Bin didn't get any backstory, what was he doing during the 4 years? Did he finish college? Did he inherit the family business? If he already became the boss, how come he's alone at the beach with no security?
So many questions...

On an unrelated note, how's Ku Hye Sun's divorce going? Has she finally let Ahn Jae Hyun go?

The idea of Jandi going to Woobin made me laugh but no, she doesn't deserve him.

Yeah it was a good opportunity to leave Junpyo but you know, she "loves" him. She rejects him during 24 episodes and when he goes away, she follows him. Same with Macao. They are perfect for each other. They should get married, argue everyday and leave everybody alone. No kids though. Nobody should get involved in their lovestory anymore.

Sweet mother of pearl! It's finally over! We made it out of this struggle alive! Congrats guys on making it to the end! This last episode was one hell of a trip...Then again, the whole drama itself was a rollercoaster of emotional mayhem and questionable life choices.

I can't for the life of me understand how Jan Di could think that Jun Pyo is a better choice than Ji Hoo. Girl, love yourself. I know you can't help who you end up liking...But they did a poor job of showing what was even likable about Jun Pyo in the first place to even let me get behind this ship. Why did she like Jun Pyo? He treated her horribly and inadvertently made her life hell because of his mother. Getting in a relationship with a guy like that is a huge red flag because he would cause her to literally lose sight of who she is as a person - which you already see happening since she put up with everything. Was all of this even worth it in the end? Him not remembering her should have been a hint that she should leave and move on with her life. Heck, she could have finally dated Ji Hoo but they're both too noble to do that. I really can't understand Jan Di as a character, she is so irrational and unrelatable.

Bless Ga Eul's patience for waiting on Yi Jung for 5 years...But seriously? They weren't even dating, much less in a relationship. Why is she obligated to do that even if they liked each other? They could have easily moved on with their lives as well. Yet, you want to jump straight into a relationship after all these years? Well, I guess that's what the writers think is romantic, the fact that they've been saving themselves for each other or whatever. Not like they couldn't have tried long distance or planned trips to see each other to make it work but okay, let's not keep in contact or anything. I think I liked this couple so much because they looked cute together and had actual chemistry but their story line is a mess. Thankfully, not as big of a mess as the fiasco with Jan Di and Jun Pyo - because lbr, I don't think it's possible to get any worse than that - but they really could have done so much better with how they portrayed this. I still want to see Kim Bum and Kim So Eun in a drama together but just let it have a decent plot!

Woo Bin deserved something at least. He really just gets sidelined. They could have done so much more with his character.

It's wild looking back at how this drama pretty much launched their careers. I'm glad the tone of writing has changed over the years, because if this drama was released in this day and age exactly how it was back then, it would be deemed so problematic - not that it wasn't problematic back then, but it is even more shocking now. Funny how so many things were glossed over and brushed off back even though they are highly offensive. Some people really have become more aware. Dramas are evolving. Granted, we still have way too many chaebol dramas than we need to but at least they're trying to change things up.

Just like with "Fated to Love You" (the Taiwanese version) there were just so many things wrong with the drama. The ML was such a jerk and was an ass to the FL, good grief - that women went through a lot. I just watched the Chinese remake and I am so glad that they improved on a lot of the things that made the Taiwanese version intolerable - they managed to actually make the ML more likable, he's literally the best ML out of ALL the versions of FTL (yes, even the Korean version). He still has his moments, but it's much easier to feel sympathetic for him compared to the other men in his position. They also show you how the ML and FL fall in love, but also how their characters evolved into who they are now before they even got to the time skip - that's what I call character development. The drama is still ridiculously frustrating because the overall plot makes me want to pull my hair out, but they did a decent job at the end of the day even if the ending was rushed.

These dramas were popular and people raved about them...But you have to also wonder why this was such a hot topic? Is it because it was a new story that hadn't been done before or because it was so intense due to all the emotions it evoked? Watching this drama has been like watching a trainwreck.

I think BOF has had the most foreign remakes - the most recent of which is the Chinese version. The Japanese version was definitely better than the Korean version, I was taken aback when I saw it. I wasn't even sure what to expect because the Korean one was so ridiculous lmao >.< I remember reading some time ago that they plan to do YET ANOTHER remake of BOF, but it would be a Thai version. This series will never die at the rate its going.

The Chinese version of Fated to Love You was titled You are My Destiny and stars the leads from Eternal Love - and whew, they were right to cast them because they already have that chemistry going. I'm tempted to watch that other drama just for them. There was also a Chinese version done last year or so for She Was Pretty and whilst the Chinese version had its pros, I'd say the Korean version was better. Even Scarlet Heart Ryeo was actually a remake but of a Chinese story.

There have been quite a few Japanese to Korean remakes, a few of which I've watched. Absolute Boyfriend, Mischievous/Playful Kiss (Itazura na Kiss), To the Beautiful You (Hana Kimi), Liar Game, The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, Because This is Our First Life, Naeil's Cantabile (Nodame's Cantabile), Love Affairs in the Afternoon and some others. So many remakes, not enough time to watch all of them! \o/

The wait is so outdated. It was popular in 2000's dramas and it was already fading when BOF came out. Nowadays they do it for the parents sometimes or the 2nd lead. What shocked me is that both Junpyo and Yijung comes back as if nothing happened and expect the girl to be still in love with them.
