i love the mv and i love the song but my god, what is up with girlgroups and queerbaiting lately, i am so tired. can't tell if i miss the times before they realized how much money wlw are giving them or not because at least rn they're more careful with words
and it's not like they can't have their cake and eat it too. the members are obviously not going to have an explicit romance between them so if you want to appeal the the Gays just hire some actors and write them a storyline, god.
What strikes me most is that this is VERY different for them all around. They've always been categorized musically by their use of organic sounds in their tracks - guitar, violin, etc. - and vocal tone, color & power. I like this song and aesthetically it's very beautiful but is this something uniquely them? Not really.
Wow, this is really really different from the two kind of sounds i usually hear from them. I love that they did some new ideas with the styling and make up, it looks amazing!
There is... a lot of queerbaiting happening in kpop as of recent.
That being said, the song itself and the mv is EXQUISITE. It’s so different from anything they’ve ever done before and really highlights how much they’ve grown.
That Sinb dance break was the death of me. So happy she was able to show off.
excuse me? what do i call it then? and it's not being applied to real people but to the roles those idols are portraying in music videos which are obvously hinting at queer relationships/feelings but never go anywhere.
the song goes nowhere, it feels like there is a buildup but in the end it goes back to the same chorus which is kinda disappointing. the dark/black dress scenes were beautiful though, and I liked the witch/snow white theme.
choreo looks kinda awkward, what is with the formations it doesn't look very well thought out.
Umji starts the song! Has that ever happened in their lead single? I want to see Sinb's entire dance break. It seems like Sowon got more lines than usual? I loved the scene of Yuju with the smoking butterfly. Yerin and Eunha's new hair suit them well. Everyone's facial expressions look so fierce in the section with the black outfits. I think horns were growing out of their heads in the last scene where they were all seated together.
I don't dislike the song but there were moments that I feel were over processed and vocal were drowned by the music , I barely could hear Umji and Yerin lines. Beside that the girls look awesome, and SinB must be happy, she kept saying she want to do "adult" concept.
I hated their last title track but this one I like. The MV is gorgeous. I side-eye the queerbaiting but I guess you can argue it fits with the lyrics and the whole seductiveness theme of the song.
styling was on point! also they called it a "refreshing witches" concept which is hilarious and also stragely fits lol
Wish they'd burned down patriarchy instead of an apple tree (doesn't that happen in the pilot of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ? rise witches \o/), and what a weird apple tree... like come on prop team. The way Euhna just fells like a plank of wood is killing me.
I'm a sucker for fairytales concept. I wanted to see a castle though.
GFRIEND SNAPPED!! We love a grown and sexy dark concept. Work ladies.
This song is amazing, the instrumental alone... you can't help but groove. Wow, I'm shook. The MV is stunning, as well as the young ladies. I really liked this!
listening to it again I think my main gripe is that something is too loud in the production. You can hear the guitar and their voices but whatever synth or something that was added overpowers them slightly.
i understand the criticisms of the overproduction of their voices, some of them kind of lost their recognizable color, that's unfortunate. the song is pretty good, i like the mysterious vibe, but i'm not really into the the 'wowow' chorus.
they must be really excited to do a different concept and they pull it off well imo! they look amazing though i don't recognize some of the members anymore.
i like everything except the song. i like almost all songs in their last one, but this one song is hard pass. also, i need to know what the mv is all about!
I need to collect my thoughts lmao this was NOT what I expected of GFriend, musically and visually Overall, it made me think of sexy concepts by 2nd gen girl groups, but through the lenses of Big Hit, from the overly processed vocals to the heavy focus on symbolism in the MV.
The song is very sultry and slower than what I was expecting. VERY different from their usual sound, but I'm not mad, Crossroads was really safe and I welcome such a bold choice. As I said, vocals seem heavily processed, even overpowered by the instrumental at times. I find it harder than usual to tell who's singing the lines, which is a problem I usually don't have with GFriend. Umji managed to stand out for me, maybe because I just love her voice? but the way she delivers her lines really fit the mood of the song Apart from that, I do enjoy the song and I hope it does well for them!
Visually - What's up with the queer baiting in girl group MVs lately??? This felt very sudden, just here for shock value/showing that GFriend have grown. Navillera for example had queer coding but at the core of its plot, it made sense. Like Monster a few days before
Beautiful MV. There were some gorgeous shots. I loved the switch to darker aesthetics, they looked absolutely amazing. Actually I loved the styling overall, make up and clothing choices were great!
Yeah when i saw those skirts with the slit and the high heeled shoes I thought of girl’s day. Those outfits cannot be comfortable to dance in, and the choreo looks really simple. I thought gfriend was a dance focused group or have they changed??
The dark concept was everything. Needed more of that. I love the scene of SinB dancing in front of the burning tree. The song sounds exactly what Bighit would produce, sorry girls.
i'm living! that instrumental was so dope, and that funky baseline with that guitar! whew! and they all looked stunning. i literally gasped at the dark concept change. and they sound great. hopefully the mixing is better on the actual track than the mv, because the it did sound a bit muffled. by the end i was grooving in my chair.
i generally enjoy gfriend, but their last comeback bored me, they had done that same concept better two times before. im so happy they switched it up. i can't wait to check out the album.
