In this series I want to go through groups that are gone, but not forgotten. I will go from debut till disbandment or [indefinite] hiatus, remembering the time we had together and look back on their highs and lows.

Hello Venus

Hello Venus was a South Korean girl group formed by Tricell Media (formerly a joint venture between Pledis Entertainment and Fantagio). The group originally consisted of Alice, Nara, Lime, Yooara, Yoonjo, and Yooyoung. In July 2014, Fantagio and Pledis ended their Tricell Media joint ventures. Yoo Ara and Yoonjo remained under Pledis, with the other four members continuing their group activities under Fantagio. In October 2014, Fantagio introduced two new members: Seoyoung and Yeoreum. After the members' contracts expired on 8 May 2019, the group officially disbanded.

PRE-DEBUT:
Pledis Entertainment collaborated with Fantagio Entertainment, an acting agency, for Hello Venus' showcase in April.
Yoo Ara and Yoonjo were trainees of After School, both having performed on their first album Virgin and were originally intended to join the group. Yoo Ara, along with fellow Pledis trainees Kim Kyungmin and Nicole Yi were the final three candidates to become After School's ninth member, but Noh Yi Young (now known as E-Young) was chosen instead.

Lime was in the pre-debut line-up of a girl group called Viva Girls under Medialine Entertainment; consisting of several members including Nine Muses member Kyungri. However, the group disbanded and each girl left the company.
Lime was a backup dancer for Chae Yeon. She was also a rapper in Lee Jung's "들어봐(Look At Me)" and Honey Family's "역전의 드라마 (Reversal of Drama)" under the name Haley.

Alice was previously a solo singer under the stage name of "Ora", and released the single "Naughty Face" in 2010. On May 1, 2018, it was announced that she had sued her former company for not giving her proper training and allegedly trying to force her to wear revealing outfits and perform in adult entertainment venues. The company argued that Alice had violated her contract and not carried out her schedule, but a judge ruled in Alice's favour, saying that the company could not provide any evidence to back up their claims.

The group was originally a seven-member line-up; consisting of the six girls and Nicole, however Nicole departed Pledis shortly before Hello Venus's debut.

2012–2013: Debut with Venus, What Are You Doing Today? and Would You Stay For Tea?
Hello Venus first became known under the name Venus.
On 17 April, Hello Venus was officially announced with a teaser image, along with the opening of an official website. The final group had six members, containing two members from Pledis: Yoo Ara and Yoonjo, and four members from Fantagio: Alice, Nara, Lime and Yooyoung.

Hello Venus release their debut mini album, Venus, on 9 May 2012, with a total of four tracks including the lead single "Venus". Currently, their song "Venus" is by far their best selling song with 600,000 downloads.

Hello Venus continue to release new digital single "Like a Wave" on 4 July 2012. The single was a part of re-release their debut mini album, Venus.

Hello Venus' second extended play "What Are You Doing Today?" was released on 12 December. The album contains five tracks, with the lead single titled "What Are You Doing Today?".

Promotions for "What Are You Doing Today?" concluded on 27 January, however on 30 January, Tricell Media announced that the group would begin promoting their follow-up song, "Romantic Love" immediately, with the first performance on MBC Music's Show Champion the same day.

Hello Venus released their third extended play "Would You Stay For Tea?" 2 May 2013, with a total of four tracks including the lead single "Would You Stay For Tea?". The following day, Tricell Media announced that the group will hold their first solo concert at Sogang University's Mary Hall on 22 June.

"Would You Stay For Tea?" is currently their best selling Extended Play with 10.000 sold copies.

2014: Line-up changes and Sticky Sticky
It was announced on 31 July via Hello Venus' official Daum café that Pledis and Fantagio had decided to terminate the Hello Venus project. Alice, Nara, Lime, and Yooyoung will continue to promote as Hello Venus, while Yoo Ara and Yoonjo will return to Pledis, pursuing careers in acting and continue their careers in music. The remaining members will work on releasing a new album, and will also be venturing into acting. Hello Venus will now be managed solely by Fantagio.

On 16 September, the group's agency announced that they are scheduled to have a comeback sometime in the fall. The comeback is reported to be in collaboration with the Brave Brothers, as well as introducing a new member to the group. On 22 October, Fantagio introduced two new members: Seoyoung and Yeoreum, and announced that the group would be making their comeback with a single in the following month. A music video teaser for their upcoming single "Sticky Sticky" was released on 31 October, featuring all the members in a sexy concept. The song and music video was released on 6 November 2014.

2015: Wiggle Wiggle and I'm Ill
On 20 December 2014 Fantagio announced to group have a comeback with fifth digital single "Wiggle Wiggle" the song is produced on Brave Brothers. On 23 December 2014 the group post first teaser video. On 2 January 2015 Fantagio post first teaser pics on Hello Venus members. The official music video was released on 8 January 2015.

"Wiggle Wiggle"'s choreography got banned by KBS, MBC and SBS because of twerking and shirt lifting. Their dance practice video got millions more views than the MV because of the sexy choreography. Not only that, when Hello Venus’ “Wiggle Wiggle” came out, they became an instant topic of discussion, mainly for the provocative attire. Although they said it was comfortable to wear, some netizens believed that they were exposing a bit too much.

The group released their fifth mini album, "I'm Ill", on 22 July 2015, promoting the song of the same name.

2016–2019: Devine Channel collaboration, Mystery of Venus, and disbandment
On 5 May 2016 Fantagio announced that the group will have a comeback with a digital single called "Glow". The song is a collaboration with producing and writing team Devine Channel. On 6 May 2016 Fantagio posted the first teaser images of members, Nara, Yeo-reum and Seo-young. On 7 March 2016 Fantagio posted the second teaser images of members, Alice, Yoo-young and Lime. On 10 May, "Glow" was released as a digital single.

On 10 July, Fantagio announced that the group will be releasing a second collaboration song with Devine Channel, called "Paradise". The song was officially released on 18 July as a digital download and a music video for the song was released on the same day.

On 1 November, "Runway" was released as the final collaboration single with Devine Channel.

On 29 December 2016 it was reported that the group will be making a comeback with a mini-album on 11 January 2017. Mystery of Venus was released on 11 January 2017, in conjunction with the music video for the title track "Mysterious". "Mystery of Venus" did not do well on the charts and flopped with only selling 3000 copies.

On 26 April 2019, it was confirmed that the group will disband after the members' contracts expire on 8 May 2019.

My favorite songs are "Would You Stay For Tea?" because it's so relaxing, sweet and comforting to me and "Wiggle Wiggle". Wiggle Wiggle is so catchy. Lines like "I know you're looking at my apple hips" and "Wiggle your butt left and right, wiggle wiggle, with more feeling." are just so much fun to me. I still listen to both songs a lot. Looking at their sales for this post was tragic, they really didn't sell well with their best downloaded song "just" 600.000 (compared to a minimum of a million downloads for other groups' best selling song) so it was not a surprise they disbanded.
They were visually such a beautiful group with a lot of talent. Talking about Wiggle Wiggle again: Seoyoung always really impressed me live with her high notes.
Anyway, if all goes well i'm planning on a big group next week to not only celebrate my 15th (!) installment but also a recent happy event ;). Let me know what you think about this week and i hope you are excited for next week! Hope you have/had fun reading~ ♥

my girls!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 there was no hint last time, huh? i'm sure i would have guessed it for HV, they're my absolute ults

and as you can see in my icon, seoyoung is my ult of ults. i'm certain that if any of HV's members had been in a better-promoted group, they'd be superstars. especially seoyoung and yeoreum? they're so underrated even by people who know HV because they were late joiners, but seoyoung is an amazing dancer AND vocalist who absolutely radiates charisma onstage and off. (and she was really curvy during i'm ill era) and yeoreum didn't get many chances to show it off, but she's an amazing singer!! and she can also rap! plus, those VISUALS. i'm not just saying this due to my own bias, but HV have some of the most beautiful faces in kpop, every member could be a visual.

my fav era was definitely their "brave bros" era because that's when i got into the group and, well, i just love brave bros songs. it was shocking to see a cute group turn into a sexy group but HV did really, really well with sexy; they were amazing dancers, and they kept it fun and colorful whereas most sexy concepts went for a more serious/muted palette.

post-disbandment, most of them have gone into acting (i think all of them have, but i don't know anything that alice or lime have been in) which i guess makes sense since they're from fantagio, but damn. i would love to see any of them return to the stage one day, since they're so talented.

oh, and they all still have "hv" in their insta usernames :) their group bond seems so strong and i love it

I thought Lime and Alice had left Fantagio, but I'm not too sure. Lime had a nice track in 2018 called Miss You, but after that I'm not sure what happened already.

HV's visuals are really strong though, almost every member could be a visual, and I remember people being surprised Nara was the visual. but I don't think Nara will continue with musical activities since she's quite an established actress now

alice and nara left the company, while the others are still in, and most (including lime) changed their stage names and switched to acting. miss you was part of fantagio's 2018 music project (similar to sm station) there were a lot of nice tracks that came from that! it was before hv's disbandment
i could see any of the others doing music again, except for nara really. seoyoung and yeoreum are actually doing musicals right now

oh yes the FM2018 or something right? I remember Alice getting a single from there also. it was a good concept but too irregular I feel. I'm hoping they get to collaborate with Yoonjo musically though, since the OG girls seem to be still hanging out (I remember seeing posts of them post uni.t).

ooo Hello Venus! I loved their debut to the point where Ara and Yoonjo left the group, and after that I guess I fell out of kpop too so I didn't pay much attention to them.

they had much hype at the start with Pledis trying to get senior artistes promoting them (I remembered there was a video of people like Kahi trying to pronounce Hello Venus, and luckily it wasn't Pe-nus). Pity Yoonjo couldn't join them on their debut due to her "injury"? and there was much hype about how Ara and Yoonjo were like whole packages in the upcoming group because of visuals and vocals (Ara looking like YoonYul while Yoonjo looking like TaengSic, that was wild).

The original 6 would always be my fave because it felt like they had everything, from visuals to vocals to dance. Ara was the standout star to me, centre main vocalist and visual, it's a pity she didn't continue much in idol world after. Lime also deserves a mention with her colourful hair, rapping and vocals.

and then the announcement came where the project had ended and the girls would be back at their respective companies. I remember seeing the article for it, and then the girls were also down for an interview? it was quite sad to read about it. Would You Stay for Tea was probably my fave track from them, and I only liked Glow from the new lineup sadly. Special mention to Like A Wave too!
I would always watch the new lineup perform their old songs but something just didn't click as much as the old to me. While the one who took over Ara's lines (Seoyoung?) was great in covering based on her vocals, the other member always felt lacking to me as she covered Yoonjo's lines. I feel bad that I still can't differentiate them after years, but the group had little musical output that piqued my interest sadly (not a fan of their Brave Brother's collaboration).

I'm also glad for their bond, the 4 of them supporting Yoonjo for Uni.T was pretty sweet, and it was nice knowing that they still keep in contact (albeit without Ara it seems). I wish the best for them, and I think Nara would probably be the most successful with her acting and visuals. I thought Yooyoung had the rise in popularity with her School drama, but things kinda fizzled out for her I guess when Fantagio had their issues. I hope Alice and Lime continue to get more singing opportunities because it's clear they both loved singing.

also WG next week is getting me hyped! thanks OP for the posts and hints once again

they were one of the funniest kpop groups, period. i know they're technically an early 3rd gen group but i always considered them part of 2nd gen. anyway, they used to be my faves along with f(x) and rainbow.

as a fan since debut, i actually preferred the second line-up over the first (yeoreum was hilarious and seoyoung really cute and talented, i liked both a lot more than ara and yoonjo), but their music while under pledis was much better. i genuinely like all their songs though.

i made a very detailed (but now also very out-dated) hello venus primer back in early 2016 on tumblr (https://kyulkyung.tumblr.com/post/137723748868/a-hello-venus-primer-masterpost-hello-venus) if anyone wants to check it out lol.

I'm ill is such a club banger and their best song.
Venus was a great debut.

That's all I can say.

"I'm Ill" and that whole mini are my absolute favs from Hello Venus. A fucking jam. I also really enoy Wiggle Wiggle and have watched that dance practice vid so many times. I really enjoyed their first few singles too, they were cute and catchy. Basically I enjoyed them when they were sexy and when they were cute. Its a shame they did so poorly sales wise :(

Edited to include my fav b-side off that fav mini <3

i honestly hated the songs they did w/ brave brothers, lmao. i would say it's cause i liked their starting concepts so much, but i really just found those tracks to be insufferable. 😬

i really loved their last comeback, though. i wish it had done better. :(

Nara's my fave (former) girl group member ever. She's just such a sweet heart. I loved Hello Venus so much ;; They really deserved so much better... I love that they're still super close and always cheering for one another. And that they all have kept "hv" in their IG names.

I'm late as always sorry OP (I'm still working my way through last weeks post because I really am not familiar with Spica and didn't want to comment without listening/viewing first :S).

Another amazing post, I love and miss these girls so much. My favorite song of theirs was wiggle, and I love the paradise MV - simple and beautiful, and my exact color palette preferences.

I will spend the new few days getting emotionally ready for next week. What a ride that will be, I'm not ready but also extremely excited for your post!

I hated Fantagio for changing their concept so abruptly.
Going from a cute concept to a sexy one alienates their previous fanbase.
I like I'm Ill. I don't hear much from them except for Nara occasionally in a drama post.
