Flashback Friday
2020-07-10 02:55 pmI forgot it was Friday and I forgot and wasn’t prepared lol. I’ve started taking afternoon naps after lunch. Anyways! Every week I check the charts for this day in the past the share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 2nd week of July, 2013. All the songs have been posted before so this time we’ll check out some comeback stages.
#3 Lim Kim “Alright”
After her Togeworl duo-mate (is there such a word? bandmate? is it band with two people?) had to leave the county, she made her solo debut with this song instead. This was a big hit (still her highest charting song and biggest seller), and would peak at #2. I remember the music video for this, but I don’t remember the live stages at all. I think I prefer the song and the MV over the live stages.
#2 Sistar “Give It To Me”
This is the single off of their album of the same name, and would peak at #1. This isn’t my favorite song from them, I don’t think I’ve seen the MV or the live stages since then. All I really remember is that this one is the Moulin Rouge one lol. I remember Dasom’s top hat too! The girls would win 11 music show trophies for this song.
#1 Lee Seung Chul “My Love”
This song was a huge hit for the veteran singer, and is now one of the songs that he best known for. It was the single off of his “My Love” album, his first album in 4 years. Here’s his performance at the Golden Disc Awards. It’s a more upbeat rock version of the original song. I think I like the original version better.
Honorable Mentions
#4 Girl’s Day “Female President”
This was the follow up to their hit “Expectation” in March. “Female President” was actually the “Expectation” album re-release, and was also a success. Both the song and the album would peak in the top ten. This is also the song that would give the girls their first music show win. The group just celebrated their 10 year anniversary this week, yay!
#7 4Minute “Is It Poppin’”
This was a non-album single that the girls released for the summer. And it’s one of my fav summer bops! It’s not one of their biggest hits, but it’s one of my most favorite songs from the group. Like, once a year I get the desire to pull out some disco shorts and throw them on for funsies. Tonight might be that night.

Date: 2020-07-10 10:47 pm (UTC)Is it poppin with its phone sounds is ridic but very fun. Wasn't it a super quick follow-up single? I remember this and another song coming back to back almost within a month of each other and they promoted all summer due to both.

Date: 2020-07-11 02:15 am (UTC)Alright is probably the only song I like from Lim Kim lol
Lissssttttttteeeeeeeennnnnnnnnn...GITM is one of my fave Sistar eras! Loved the visuals and the song was a bop! \o/ I'm pretty sure that's when Soyu became my bias cuz she was slaying meeeeeee that era, especially with her red bob!
Though Bora had me wanting to put a purple streak in my hair lmao*O*Expectation > FM but it was still a pretty strong follow up.
I used to prefer Is It Poppin to What's Your Name but recently I've been bopping to WYN more. Both GD and 4Minute had great comebacks that year.

Date: 2020-07-11 11:59 am (UTC)I loved all of 4minute's singles since WYN (except Hate), and it felt like they were more confident of their concepts plus performing on stage. Is It Poppin will be special because it wasn't their "girl crush", but it was still a refreshing summer song!
