(TW: Bullying) AOA’s Jimin Posts Apology Following Mina’s Allegations About Bullying + Mina Responds

On July 4, AOA’s Jimin issued a personal statement in response to the allegations that she had bullied former member Mina.

Yesterday, Mina shared a series of posts on Instagram in which she said that she had been subject to years of harassment from Jimin during her time as an AOA member. The next day, Mina shared what she said would be her final post on the matter and said that the AOA members, including Jimin, had come to her home to discuss the issue.

Jimin has now shared a statement of apology on Instagram about the issue. It reads:

"I can’t express everything in a short post but I am very, very sorry. I was lacking as a leader and I did wrong. As I carry this regret and sense of guilt, I realize that I did not understand Mina well during the time we spent together and I did not look around me carefully. Yesterday, I cried and apologized and cried again. However, I realize that the emotions that Mina has built up about me over time cannot be easily resolved, so I am very sorry. When I was younger, I believed that our team should only show our good sides to our staff and the world. That’s how I thought during my early twenties, but I realize now that I was lacking a humane side as a leader to lead a team in such a manner. I’m sorry for causing controversy and I’m sorry for writing a statement that is all over the place. More than anything else, I’m sincerely sorry to Mina and the members, who spent a lot of effort for the two of us."


Mina has shared a new post on Instagram that appears to be a response to Jimin’s apology:

"Apologized? You apologized? I’m going to say what I need to say before I go. Yesterday, you said that you acted like that so that I would be set on the right path. Hearing this from the same person who brought a man to the dorms and had [sex]? You should be set on the right path first. At the very least, you shouldn’t have lied. I understand that you will hate me to the end and you don’t want to apologize to me. But what? I will never forget the look in your eyes when you came in. I’ll die and repay you in kind. All the eyes and ears that were at my house, you’re all the same. Shin Ji Min, you’re so lucky, everyone is on your side. You’ve won. I’ve lost. In the end, I’ve lost."

Mina’s agency, Woori Actors, also shared an official statement about their artist’s current status. AOA’s agency, FNC Entertainment, has not yet responded.

The kind of shit that Jimin allegedly put Mina through doesn’t arise from some case of misunderstanding. C’mon, how can she think that apology is believable? Why did anyone on FNC’s payroll let her post it?

Yeah, that's what I got too. Especially when I read "All the eyes and ears that were at my house, you’re all the same" from Mina's reply. This kind of environment is toxic and incredibly abusive and she endured that for a decade, poor girl.

What do you mean take away their phones. Mina has every right to continue speaking up about it. People should check on her continuously because this post (which she already deleted) is extremely concerning and frightening. I hope she doesn't do what she's implying. Her manager should stick to her like a glue 24/7 and the agency follow up on their promises of helping her ASAP.

I was resistant to the idea of the other members knowing and tolerating this mess and was rooting for them to defend Mina, but after reading this I've lost hope. Idk what to think now, I need to process things more.

This is so depressing and I hope that that will change. Abusers are empowered by the silence of others, and capitalize on other people "not wanting to get involved". Every single one of Jimin's responses, from "fiction" to angry visit to this PR apology just cements her more and more as the person Mina described her as.

I've seen ppl tryna take blame off of Jimin's shoulders with shit like "but Jimin as the leader was under a lot of stress too" kinda shit, and other ppl tryna pick every single one of Mina's words apart to take a swipe at her to deflect from the abuse that happened. No matter what happened to Jimin, bullying someone for 10 years is not a single choice, is not a single mistake. It's a series of choices that she kept taking every time she hurt Mina.

Mina's been so incredibly brave, and I hope this doesn't mean that she thinks she has nothing to lose anymore. I want Mina to get all the support she needs, and I want Jimin to be held accountable (by the public and other celebrities). I doubt that'll happen though.

I never really liked AOA past like one song, and don't even know who Mina is really, but my HEART IS HURTING SO BAD. I have had so many Jimins in my life and I am still fucked up to this day because of them. The self doubt and second guessing I have about anything I say and do is never going to go away. I don't think it's possible for me to even regain love of myself even though more than 10 years have passed.

I’m also side-eying folks who are using the “hurt people hurt people” explanation for Jimin. She has been at this for 10 YEARS. Bringing up whatever issues she has, even with their seriousness, does nothing but try to absolve her of blame in this, for which she should take the bulk, if not all of it. There’s only so much of her behavior that you can put on FNCE, too; was she doing their “dirty work” when she stormed into Mina’s house and demanded a knife to kill herself with? And then she didn’t even have the decency to properly apologize, neither in person nor in print. Her leaving AOA is the least of what she deserves. Hell, AOA should just disband at this point. FNCE is trash and should burn.
